Chapter Eighty-Nine, Part 2 (פֶּרֶק שְׁמוֹנִים וְתִשְׁעָה ב׳)

We return to the Chesed that descended into the Tiferet (נַחֲזוֹר לַחֶסֶד אֲשֶׁר יָרַד לְת״ת), whose two thirds are revealed (לִהְיוֹת הַשְּׁנֵי שְׁלִישִׁים שֶׁלּוֹ מְגֻלִּים), and likewise the two Chasadim (וְכֵן הַשְּׁנֵי חֲסָדִים), that descended into Netzach and Hod (שֶׁיָּרְדוּ לְנֵצַח וְהוֹד), behold (הִנֵּה), those powerful illuminations (אוֹתָן הַהֶאָרוֹת הַחֲזָקוֹת), drew after themselves (הִמְשִׁיכוּ אַחֲרֵיהֶם), the five Gevurot that were in the Da’at (אֶת הַחָמֵשׁ גְּבוּרוֹת שֶׁהָיוּ בַּדַּעַת), and the two Chasadim and one third (וְאֶת הַשְּׁנֵי חֲסָדִים וּשְׁלִישׁ), that were concealed in the arms (שֶׁהָיוּ מְכֻסִּים בַּזְּרוֹעוֹת), and in the upper third of Tiferet (וּבַשְּׁלִישׁ הָעֶלְיוֹן שֶׁל ת״ת). And all the Chasadim and Gevurot together (וְכָל הַחֲסָדִים וְהַגְּבוּרוֹת יַחְדָּו), descend to the Yesod (יוֹרְדִים עַד הַיְסוֹד), and their illumination is sufficient (וְהֶאָרָתָם מַסְפֶּקֶת), to complete the third that was lacking from it (לְהַשְׁלָמַת הַשְּׁלִישׁ שֶׁהָיָה נִגְרָע מִמֶּנּוּ), and also to enlarge it and give it vitality (וְגַם לְגַדְּלוֹ וּלְהַחֲיוֹתוֹ).

And behold (וְהִנֵּה), the five Gevurot remained there (הַחָמֵשׁ גְּבוּרוֹת נִשְׁאֲרוּ שָׁם), in deposit for the sake of Malkhut (בְּפִקָּדוֹן לְצוֹרֶךְ הַמַּלְכוּת), according to the meaning of “and the food shall be for a store in the land” (כְּטַעַם וְהָיָה הָאֹכֶל לְפִקָּדוֹן לָאָרֶץ) (Genesis 41:36), and the Chasadim return (וְהַחֲסָדִים חוֹזְרִים), through the power of the great illumination (בְּכֹחַ הַהֶאָרָה הַגְּדוֹלָה), as Ohr Chozer [Returning Light] (בְּאוֹר חוֹזֵר), to ascend in a revealed state (לַעֲלוֹת מְגֻלִּים). And this very illumination (וְזֹאת הַהֶאָרָה עַצְמָהּ), is sufficient to complete the Da’at (תַּסְפִּיק לְהַשְׁלָמַת הַדַּעַת), as they pass through it (בְּעָבְרָם דֶּרֶךְ עָלָיו), except that due to its greatness (אֶלָּא לְפִי גָּדְלוּתוֹ), it required the illumination of all of them (הֻצְרְכָה הֶאָרַת כּוּלָּם), to complete one half-third (לְהַשְׁלָמַת חֲצִי שְׁלִישׁ), whereas here (וְכָאן), the illumination of the five Chasadim and the five Gevurot was sufficient (הִסְפִּיקָה הֶאָרָה שֶׁל ה' חֲסָדִים וְה' גְּבוּרוֹת), to complete one half-third (לְהַשְׁלָמַת חֲצִי שְׁלִישׁ אֶחָד), and moreover (וְעוֹד), the Gevurot undergo a change here in the Yesod (שֶׁהֲרֵי הַגְּבוּרוֹת מִשְׁתַּנוֹת כָּאן אֵצֶל יְסוֹד). However (אָמְנָם), the five Chasadim that we said (הַה' חֲסָדִים אֲשֶׁר אָמַרְנוּ), are all drawn and descend to the Yesod (שֶׁהֵם נִמְשָׁכִים כּוּלָּם וְיוֹרְדִים עַד הַיְסוֹד), behold (הִנֵּה), they return through the power of the great illumination (הֵם חוֹזְרִים בְּכֹחַ הַהֶאָרָה הַגְּדוֹלָה), to ascend in a revealed state (לַעֲלוֹת מְגֻלִּים), for previously (שֶׁמִּקֹּדֶם), some of them came as Ohr Penimi [Inner Light] (בָּאוּ קְצָתָם בְּאוֹר פְּנִימִי), and some of them as Ohr Chitzon [Outer Light] (וּקְצָתָם בְּאוֹר חִיצוֹן), and now all of them return as Ohr Makif [Surrounding Light] (וְכֻלָּן עַתָּה חוֹזְרִין בְּאוֹר מַקִּיף), and the light of the returning Chasadim (וְאוֹר הַחֲסָדִים הַחוֹזֵר), ascends from the Yesod and upward (וּמִתְעַלִּים מִיְסוֹד וּלְמַעְלָה). This is the secret of (הוּא סוֹד), “the Chesed that hangs upon this mouth of the Amah” (חֶסֶד דְּתָלֵי בְּהַאי פּוּם אַמָּה), stated in the Zohar (הָאָמוּר בַּזֹּהַר). And because (וּלְהִיוֹת), we said above as a principle (שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ לְמַעְלָה כְּלָל), “one revealed third of a Chesed is sufficient for two thirds of the level” (שְׁלִישׁ אֶחָד מְגֻלֶּה מֵהַחֶסֶד מַסְפִּיק לִשְׁנֵי שְׁלִישִׁים הַמַּדְרֵגָה), and there is proof from Tiferet (וְיֵשׁ רְאָיָה מִת״ת), for we said that for its two thirds (שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ שֶׁלִּשְׁנֵי שְׁלִישָׁיו), one third of the revealed Chesed was sufficient (מַסְפִּיק [שְׁלִישׁ] מֵהַחֶסֶד הַמְגֻלֶּה), because the one third protruded outward (כִּי הַשְּׁלִישׁ הָאֶחָד בָּלַט), to make the head of the Nukvah of Ze’ir Anpin (לַעֲשׂוֹת רֹאשׁ נוּקְבֵיהּ דְּזְעֵיר). If so (אִם כֵּן), now in the Ohr Makif [Surrounding Light] (עַתָּה בְּאוֹר מַקִּיף), one and a half thirds are sufficient for each Middah of Ze’ir Anpin (מַסְפִּיק לְכָל מִדָּה שֶׁל זְעֵיר שְׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי שְׁלִישׁ), from the Chesed that afterward descended to Netzach (מֵהַחֶסֶד שֶׁיָּרַד אַחַר כָּךְ לְנֵצַח), one and a half thirds are sufficient for itself (מַסְפִּיק שְׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי לְעַצְמָהּ), from the Chesed that descended from the Da’at of Ze’ir Anpin (מֵהַחֶסֶד אֲשֶׁר יָרַד מִדַּעַת זְעֵיר), there remains one and a half thirds (נִשְׁאַר שְׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי), also for Hod (גַּם לְהוֹד), sufficient for itself one and a half thirds (מַסְפִּיק לוֹ שְׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי לְעַצְמוֹ), and there remain one and a half thirds from these three thirds (נִשְׁאַר שְׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי מֵאֵלּוּ הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה שְׁלִישִׁים) [Etz Chaim, Sha’ar HaKlalim]. From the one and a half thirds of Netzach (מִשְּׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי שֶׁל נֵצַח), emerges the Chokhmah of the Nukvah of Ze’ir Anpin (יוֹצֵאת חָכְמָה שֶׁל נוּקְבֵיהּ דְּזְעֵיר), and from the one and a half thirds of Hod (מֵהַשְּׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי שֶׁל הוֹד), emerges the Binah of the Nukvah of Ze’ir Anpin (יוֹצֵאת בִּינָה נוּקְבֵיהּ דְּזְעֵיר). And the reason that one and a half thirds are required (וְהַטַּעַם שֶׁצָּרִיךְ שְׁלִישׁ וָחֵצִי), is because the Middah of Chokhmah consists of three thirds (מִפְּנֵי שֶׁמִּדַּת חָכְמָה הִיא שְׁלֹשָׁה שְׁלִישִׁים), and for every two thirds of the Middah (וּלְכָל שְׁנֵי שְׁלִישִׁים שֶׁל הַמִּדָּה), one revealed third of a Chesed is sufficient (מַסְפִּיק שְׁלִישׁ אֶחָד מְגֻלֶּה מֵהַחֶסֶד), it follows (נִמְצָא), that from these thirds of the Chasadim of Netzach and Hod (שֶׁמֵּאֵלּוּ הַשְּׁלִישִׁים שֶׁל הַחֲסָדִים שֶׁמִּנֵּצַח וְהוֹד), were made the Mochin [Supernal Intellects] of the Nukvah (נַעֲשׂוּ הַמּוֹחִין שֶׁל נוּקְבֵיהּ).
