Chapter Eighty-Six (פֶּרֶק שְׁמוֹנִים וְשִׁשָּׁה)

The matter of the influence was in this manner (עִנְיַן הַהַשְׁפָּעָה הָיְתָה בְּאוֹפֶן זֶה), that Imma illuminated and bestowed through her Yesod (שֶׁאִמָּא הֵאִירָה וְהִשְׁפִּיעָה דֶּרֶךְ הַיְסוֹד שֶׁלָּהּ), within the inwardness of Ze’ir Anpin (בִּפְנִימִיּוּתוֹ שֶׁל זְעֵיר), the five Chasadim mentioned that were within her (הַה' חֲסָדִים הַנִּזְכָּרִים שֶׁהָיוּ בָהּ), and in addition (וְעוֹד), she inclined herself in the secret of her Yesod-vessel (הִרְכִּינָה בְּסוֹד כְּלִי יְסוֹד דִּידָהּ), and covered the Gufa [Body] of Ze’ir Anpin (וְכִסְּתָה גּוּפֵיהּ דְּזְעֵיר), until the end of the upper third of Tiferet (עַד סוֹף הַשְּׁלִישׁ הָעֶלְיוֹן שֶׁל ת״ת), for until there reaches the illumination of the Yesod of Imma (כִּי עַד שָׁם מַגַּעַת הֶאָרַת הַיְסוֹד שֶׁל אִמָּא). But the head of Ze’ir Anpin remained uncovered (אֲבָל הָרֹאשׁ שֶׁל זְעֵיר נִשְׁאַר מְגֻלֶּה), because it is not the way of a garment to cover the face (כִּי אֵין דֶּרֶךְ הַמַּלְבּוּשׁ לְכַסּוֹת הַפָּנִים), and this principle shall remain in your hand (וּכְלָל זֶה יִהְיֶה בְיָדְךָ), that every secret of a garment which is external (כִּי כָּל סוֹד מַלְבּוּשׁ שֶׁהוּא מִבַּחוּץ), the head is always uncovered (תָּמִיד הָרֹאשׁ מְגֻלֶּה), and this external clothing (וְהַלְבָּשָׁה זוֹ שֶׁמִבַּחוּץ), is in the secret of Din [Judgment] (הִיא בְּסוֹד דִּין). And this is the secret of (וְזֶהוּ סוֹד), “And Hashem Elohim made for Adam and for his wife garments of skin and clothed them” (וַיַּעַשׂ ה׳ אֱלֹהִים לְאָדָם וּלְאִשְׁתּוֹ כָּתְנוֹת עוֹר וַיַּלְבִּשֵׁם) (Genesis 3:21). And the Sages, of blessed memory, said (וְאָמְרוּ חֲכָמִים ז״ל), that in the scroll of Rabbi Meir (כִּי בְּסִפְרוֹ שֶׁל רַבִּי מֵאִיר), it was written “garments of light” (הָיָה כָּתוּב כָּתְנוֹת אוֹר) (Midrash Rabbah, Bereshit 20:12), which is in the secret of Ohr Penimi [Inner Light] (שֶׁהוּא בְּסוֹד אוֹר פְּנִימִי), whereas these (וְאִלּוּ אֵלּוּ), are in the secret of skin (הֵם בְּסוֹד עוֹר), which is Din [Judgment] (שֶׁהוּא דִּין), as will be explained (כַּאֲשֶׁר יִתְבָּאֵר). And this is an allusion to this clothing that we mentioned (וְהוּא רֶמֶז לְהַלְבָּשָׁה זוֹ שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ), that Imma made for Ze’ir Anpin with her vessel (שֶׁעָשְׂתָה אִמָּא לִזְעֵיר בִּכְלִי שֶׁלָּהּ), which are in the secret of Din [Judgment] (שֶׁהֵם בְּסוֹד דִּין), because they are from Imma, from whom judgments are aroused (לִהְיוֹתָם מֵאִמָּא דְּדִינִין מִתְעָרִין מִינָהּ) (Zohar, Bereshit 151a). And this is why the verse mentions “Hashem Elohim” (וְהַיְנוּ שֶׁהִזְכִּיר הַכָּתוּב ה׳ אֱלֹהִים), to allude to Abba and Imma (לִרְמוֹז לְאַבָּא וְאִמָּא). And this principle shall remain in your hand (וּכְלָל זֶה יִהְיֶה בְיָדְךָ), that whenever the Kelim [Vessels] of Imma spread forth (כִּי לְעוֹלָם כְּשֶׁמִּתְפַּשְּׁטִים כְּלֵי אִמָּא), the Kelim [Vessels] of Abba are always within them (תָּמִיד כְּלֵי אַבָּא הֵם בְּתוֹכָם), and therefore they are called garments of light and skin (וְלָכֵן נִקְרְאוּ כָּתְנוֹת אוֹר וְעוֹר), light from the side of Abba (אוֹר מִצַּד אַבָּא), and skin from the aspect of the Kelim [Vessels] of Imma (וְעוֹר מִצַּד בְּחִינוֹת כְּלֵי אִמָּא).
