Chapter One Hundred Forty-Nine (פֶּרֶק מֵאָה אַרְבָּעִים וְתִשְׁעָה)
And now (וְעַתָּה), since there are five Chesed and five Gevurot (שֶׁיֵּשׁ ה׳ חֲסָדִים וְה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת), which have the numerical value of Sar [turned aside] (הָעוֹלִים סָ״ר), as we explained in the verse “All have turned aside” (כַּאֲשֶׁר פֵּרַשְׁנוּ בַּפָּסוּק הַכֹּל סָר) (Psalms 14:3; Psalms 53:4), you will understand (תָּבִין), how the Name Havayah is in Ze’ir Anpin in two ways (אֵיךְ שֵׁם הֲוָיָ״ה הוּא בְּז״א מִשְּׁנֵי פָּנִים). The first (הָרִאשׁוֹן), is according to its simple form, thus: Havayah (הוּא כִּפְשׁוּטוֹ כָּזֶה יְהוָ״ה). In this manner (בְּזֶה הָאֹפֶן): the Yod is ten (הַיו״ד הִיא עֲשָׂרָה), alluding to the five Chesed and the five Gevurot descending from Abba and Imma (רוֹמֶזֶת עַל הַה׳ חֲסָדִים וְהַה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת הַיּוֹרְדִים מֵאַבָּא וְאִמָּא), and the Heh alludes to the five Chesed (וְאוֹת ה׳ רוֹמֶזֶת עַל חֲמִשָּׁה חֲסָדִים), which spread through Ze’ir Anpin (שֶׁמִּתְפַּשְּׁטִים בְּז״א), and the Vav of Havayah (וְאוֹת ו׳ שֶׁל הֲוָיָ״ה), is the Yesod of Ze’ir Anpin (הוּא הַיְסוֹד שֶׁל זְעֵיר אַנְפִּין), and the final Heh (וְהַה״א אַחֲרוֹנָה), corresponds to the five Gevurot (הִיא בְּעֵרֶךְ הַה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת), for the Yesod of Ze’ir Anpin took them as a deposit for its Nukvah (שֶׁלָּקַח אוֹתָם יְסוֹד דְּז״א בְּפִקָּדוֹן לְנוּקְבֵיהּ), as it is said (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר): “And the produce shall be for a deposit for the land” (וְהָיָה הָאֹכֶל לְפִקָּדוֹן לָאָרֶץ) (Genesis 41), which is Malkhut (שֶׁהִיא מַלְכוּת). Behold before you (הִנֵּה לְפָנֶיךָ), the intention of one Havayah (כַּוָּנַת הֲוָיָ״ה אַחַת). And because we find another Havayah in this form: Y-H H-V (וּמִפְּנֵי שֶׁמָּצָאנוּ הֲוָיָ״ה אַחֶרֶת כָּזֶה י״ה ה״ו), emerging from the initial letters of the verse (הַיּוֹצֵאת מֵרָאשֵׁי תֵיבוֹת הַפָּסוּק): “Let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows” (יִתְהַלֵּל הַמִּתְהַלֵּל הַשְׂכֵּל וְיָדוֹעַ) (Jeremiah 9:23), and it is within Ze’ir Anpin itself (וְהוּא בְּז״א עַצְמוֹ), I have said to explain to you (אָמַרְתִּי לְהַגִּיד לְךָ), how they are distributed within Ze’ir Anpin (אֵיךְ הִתְפַּשְּׁטוּתָם בְּזְעֵיר). And the intention is (וְהַכַּוָּנָה הִיא), as we said concerning the Yod of the simple Havayah (כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ בַּיו״ד שֶׁל הֲוָיָ״ה בִּפְשׁוּטָהּ), in relation to the five Chesed and the five Gevurot (בְּעֵרֶךְ הַה׳ חֲסָדִים וְהַה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת). The first Heh alludes to the five Chesed spreading through Ze’ir Anpin (הַה״א רוֹמֶזֶת עַל ה׳ חֲסָדִים הַמִּתְפַּשְּׁטִים בְּז״א), and the final Heh alludes to the five Gevurot which the Yesod took as a deposit for its Nukvah (וְה״א אַחֲרוֹנָה רוֹמֶזֶת עַל ה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת שֶׁלָּקַח בְּפִקָּדוֹן יְסוֹד לְנוּקְבֵיהּ), and the Vav is the Yesod itself (וְהָוא״ו הוּא הַיְסוֹד עַצְמוֹ).
It follows (נִמְצָא), that the difference between the first Name and the second (שֶׁהַהֶפְרֵשׁ שֶׁבֵּין הַשֵּׁם הָרִאשׁוֹן לַשֵּׁנִי), is whether the Yesod ascends to the place of Da’at to take the five Gevurot (הוּא שֶׁעוֹלֶה יְסוֹד לִמְקוֹם הַדַּעַת לִיקַּח הַה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת), or whether the Gevurot descend to the Yesod (אוֹ כְּשֶׁיָּרְדוּ הַגְּבוּרוֹת לִיסוֹד). And both are true and established (וּשְׁנֵיהֶם אֱמֶת וְיַצִּיב), for in relation to the upper third that ascended to complete the Da’at (בְּעֵרֶךְ הַשְּׁלִישׁ הָעֶלְיוֹן שֶׁעָלָה לְהַשְׁלִים לַדַּעַת), it is called the ascent of the Yesod (נִקְרָא עֲלִיַּת יְסוֹד), and in relation to the third that remained in its place (וּבְעֵרֶךְ הַשְּׁלִישׁ שֶׁנִּשְׁאַר בִּמְקוֹמוֹ), it is called the descent of the Yesod (נִקְרָא יְרִידַת הַיְסוֹד).
