Chapter Sixty-Two (פֶּרֶק שִׁשִּׁים וּשְׁנַיִם)

And with this introduction (וּבְזֹאת הַהַקְדָּמָה), you will understand (תָּבִין), why in the Tefillin (לָמָּה בַּתְּפִלִּין), there is a Shin of four heads on one side (שִׁי״ן שֶׁל אַרְבָּעָה רָאשִׁין מִצַּד אֶחָד), and on the other side a Shin of three heads (וּמִצַּד הַשֵּׁנִי שִׁי״ן שֶׁל שְׁלֹשָׁה רָאשִׁין), and both of them are joined in one Bayit [Compartment] (וּשְׁתֵּיהֶן מְחֻבָּרוֹת בְּבַיִת אֶחָד), one on the right side and one on the left side (אֶחָד מִצַּד יָמִין וְאֶחָד מִצַּד שְׂמֹאל). But the intention is (אֲבָל הַכַּוָּנָה הִיא), that originally the Mochin were four (שֶׁמֵּעִיקָרָא הָיוּ הַמּוֹחִין אַרְבָּעָה), the two Mochin and the two Atarot [Crowns] (תְּרֵין מוֹחִין וּתְרֵין עֲטָרִין), this is the secret of the Shin of four branches and heads (הוּא סוֹד הַשִּׁי״ן שֶׁל ד׳ עֲנָפִים וְרָאשִׁים), which are the Kitrin [Crowns] of Ze’ir (שֶׁהֵם כִּתְרֵי זְעֵיר). And afterward they were included within three (וְאַחַר כָּךְ נִכְלְלוּ בִּשְׁלֹשָׁה), which are the Netzach, Hod, Yesod of Binah Ila’ah [the Supernal Binah] (שֶׁהֵם נה״י שֶׁל בִּינָה עִלָּאָה), this is the secret of the Shin of three heads (זֶהוּ סוֹד הַשִּׁי״ן שֶׁל שְׁלֹשָׁה רָאשִׁין), and afterward they were included in the Da’at of Ze’ir Anpin (וְאַחַר כָּךְ נִכְלְלוּ בְּדַעַת ז״א), and there it includes both of them (וְשָׁם הוּא כּוֹלֵל שְׁנֵיהֶם), and it is the Bayit [Compartment] that joins them (וְהוּא הַבַּיִת הַמְחַבְּרָן), therefore there is only one Bayit [Compartment] for these two Shins (לָכֵן אֵינוֹ אֶלָּא רַק בַּיִת אֶחָד לִשְׁנֵי שִׁינִין אֵלּוּ), “one on this side and one on that side” (מִזֶּה אֶחָד וּמִזֶּה אֶחָד) (Exodus 25:19). And through this (וּבָזֶה), will be understood (יוּבַן), what our Sages, of blessed memory, said (מַה שֶּׁאָמְרוּ חז״ל), “the Holy One Blessed Be He puts on Tefillin” (הקב״ה מַנִּיחַ תְּפִלִּין) (Berakhot 6a), every day (בְּכָל יוֹם), the intention is (הַכַּוָּנָה הוּא), that Ze’ir, who is the Holy One Blessed Be He (כִּי זְעֵיר שֶׁהוּא הקב״ה), places upon his head these four lights that we mentioned (מַנִּיחַ בְּרֹאשׁוֹ אֵלּוּ הַד׳ אוֹרוֹת שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ), which are the Mochin: Chokhmah and Binah (שֶׁהֵם הַמּוֹחִין חָכְמָה וּבִינָה), and Gedulah and Gevurah (וּגְדוּלָה וּגְבוּרָה), which are the two Atarot [Crowns] (שֶׁהֵם הַתְּרֵין עֲטָרִין), which at first are four (שֶׁבַּתְּחִלָּה הֵם אַרְבָּעָה), and when they enter his head they become three (וּכְשֶׁנִּכְנָסִים בְּרֹאשׁוֹ הֵם שְׁלֹשָׁה), and all of them are one matter included within the Da’at of Ze’ir (וְכֻלָּם דָּבָר אֶחָד נִכְלָלִים בְּדַעַת זְעֵיר), and therefore (וְאִם כֵּן), the Holy One Blessed Be He puts on Tefillin every day (הקב״ה מַנִּיחַ תְּפִלִּין בְּכָל יוֹם).

And behold (וְהִנֵּה), the intention of the statement of the Zohar (כַּוָּנַת הַמַּאֲמָר שֶׁל הַזֹּהַר) (Idra Zuta, Devarim 290b), which we mentioned (אֲשֶׁר אָמַרְנוּ): “Abba and Imma are companions who never separate forever” (אַבָּא וְאִמָּא אִינוּן רֵעִין דְּלָא מִתְפָּרְשִׁין לְעָלְמִין), is only (אֵינוֹ אֶלָּא), to give life to the Middah [Attribute] of Ze’ir Anpin and Nukvah (לָתֵת חַיּוּת לְמִדַּת זְעֵיר וְנוּקְבֵיהּ), to give life to the worlds (לְהַחֲיוֹת הָעוֹלָמוֹת). But to give Atarot [Crowns] to Ze’ir (אֲבָל לָתֵת עֲטָרִין לִזְעֵיר), so that he may enter Zivug [Union] with his Nukvah (לְהִזְדַּוֵּג עִם נוּקְבֵיהּ), this is not (אֵינוֹ), except through our good deeds (כִּי אִם בְּמַעֲשֵׂינוּ הַטּוֹבִים), and the Yichud [Unification] of Keri’at Shema (וְהַיִּחוּד שֶׁל קְרִיאַת שְׁמַע), as we shall explain in its place (כַּאֲשֶׁר נְבָאֵר בִּמְקוֹמוֹ), with the assistance of Kudsha Berikh Hu and His Shekhinta (בְּסִיַּיעְתָא דְקב״ה וּשְׁכִינְתֵּיהּ). Then Imma becomes impregnated from five Chasadim and five Gevurot (אָז מִתְעַבֶּרֶת אִמָּא מֵחֲמִשָּׁה חֲסָדִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה גְּבוּרוֹת), and gives birth to them (וְיוֹלֶדֶת אוֹתָם), and from these lights (וּמֵאֵלּוּ הָאוֹרוֹת), Ze’ir is crowned (מִתְעַטֵּר זְעֵיר), with the four Mochin that we mentioned (מֵאַרְבַּע מוֹחִין שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ), and this is the secret of “the Holy One Blessed Be He puts on Tefillin” (וְזֶהוּ סוֹד הקב״ה מַנִּיחַ תְּפִלִּין) (Berakhot 6a).
