Chapter Twelve (פֶּרֶק שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר)

It is the fourth Tikkun of the Reisha DeEin [Head of Nothingness], called “To the remnant of His inheritance” (הוּא תִּיקּוּן רְבִיעִי שֶׁל רֵישָׁא דְאֵין הַנִּקְרָא לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ) (Micah 7:18), and it is the Tikkun of the Netzach of Atika (וְהוּא תִּיקּוּנוֹ שֶׁל נֵצַח דְּעַתִּיקָא), which is white (שֶׁהוּא לָבָן), and it is itself the hairs beneath the lower lip (וְהוּא בְּעַצְמוֹ הַשְּׂעָרוֹת שֶׁתַּחַת הַשָּׂפָה הַתַּחְתּוֹנָה), a row encircling it evenly (שׁוּרָה הַמַּקֶּפֶת אוֹתָהּ בְּשָׁוֶה), thin according to its width (דַּק לְפִי הָרוֹחַב).

The fourth Tikkun [Rectification] of the Reisha DeEin [Head of Nothingness], called “To the remnant of His inheritance” (הַתִּיקּוּן הָרְבִיעִי שֶׁל רֵישָׁא דְאֵין הַנִּקְרָא לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ) (Micah 7:18), and the Netzach of Atika bestowed into Ein and made this Tikkun (וְהַנֵּצַח שֶׁל עַתִּיקָא הִשְׁפִּיעָה בְּאֵין וְעָשְׂתָה זֶה הַתִּיקּוּן). And this is what it says in Sifra deTzniuta (וְזֶהוּ אוֹמְרוֹ בְּסִפְרָא דִצְנִיעוּתָא), “Beneath the lips, hair encircled toward the other side” (תְּחוֹת שַׂפְּוָון אַסְחַר שַׂעֲרָא לְרֵישָׁא אָחֳרָא), this is the fourth Tikkun whose name is “To the remnant of His inheritance” (זֶהוּ תִּיקּוּן רְבִיעִי שֶׁשְּׁמוֹ לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ), as explained in the Idra Rabba [Great Assembly] (כַּמְפוֹרָשׁ בְּאַדְרָא רַבָּא). And this is its language (וְזֶהוּ לְשׁוֹנוֹ): “And the fourth Tikkun: hair is arranged and descends beneath the mouth from one side to the other side” (וְתִיקּוּן רְבִיעִי מִתְתַּקֵּן שַׂעֲרָא וְנָחִית תְּחוֹת פּוּמָא מֵרֵישָׁא חֲדָא לְרֵישָׁא חֲדָא). And the intention is (וְהַכַּוָּנָה), that this Tikkun is the Netzach within Atika (שֶׁהַתִּיקּוּן הַזֶּה הוּא נֵצַח שֶׁבְּעַתִּיקָא), after the Tikkun of the path mentioned above came and separated Netzach from Hod, which had been attached together, as I said above (אַחַר שֶׁבָּא תִּיקּוּן אָרְחָא הַנִּזְכָּר וְהִפְרִיד נֵצַח מִן הוֹד שֶׁהָיוּ מְדוּבָּקִים יַחַד כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמַרְתִּי לְמַעְלָה), this Netzach encircled the mouth from below (הַנֵּצַח הַזֶּה הִקִּיף אֶת הַפֶּה מִלְּמַטָּה), namely beneath the lower lip, from one side of the mouth to the other side of the mouth (דְּהַיְינוּ תַּחַת הַשָּׂפָה הַתַּחְתּוֹנָה מֵרֵישָׁא חֲדָא דְּפוּמָא לְרֵישָׁא אָחֳרָא דְּפוּמָא). And this is what is written (וְהַהוּא דִכְתִיב), “Passing over transgression, to the remnant of His inheritance” (עוֹבֵר עַל פֶּשַׁע לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ) (Micah 7:18), meaning (כְּלוֹמַר), the third Tikkun, which is “Passing over transgression,” that separated Netzach from Hod, as was said (הַתִּיקּוּן הַשְּׁלִישִׁי שֶׁהוּא עוֹבֵר עַל פֶּשַׁע שֶׁהִפְרִיד נֵצַח מִן הוֹד כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמַר), was in order to establish this fourth Tikkun, whose name is “To the remnant of His inheritance” (הָיָה כְּדֵי לְתַקֵּן תִּיקּוּן הָרְבִיעִי הַזֶּה שֶׁשְּׁמוֹ לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ). And afterward he said (וְאָמַר אַחַר כָּךְ), “As it is said, ‘And offer prayer on behalf of the remnant that is found’” (כַּמָּה דְאַתְּ אָמַר וְנָשָׂאתָ תְּפִלָּה בְּעַד הַשְּׁאֵרִית הַנִּמְצָאָה) (II Kings 19:4), “that is found” literally (הַנִּמְצָאָה מַמָּשׁ). For from the simple meaning of the verse, “to the remnant of His inheritance” (לְפִי שֶׁנִּרְאֶה מִן פְּשַׁט הַכָּתוּב לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ), it would appear to mean only part of Yisrael and not all of them (דְּהַיְינוּ לְמִקְצָת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא לְכֻלָּם), and if so, how can it be correct to say that this Tikkun [Rectification] is called “to the remnant of His inheritance” (וְאִם כֵּן אֵיךְ יִצְדַּק לוֹמַר שֶׁהַתִּיקּוּן הַזֶּה נִקְרָא לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ), for certainly this Tikkun [Rectification] is for all Yisrael and not merely for part of them (דְּהָא בְּוַדַּאי הַתִּיקּוּן הַזֶּה הוּא לְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא לְמִקְצָתָן). Therefore he said that the verse is not to be understood in this way (לָזֶה אָמַר שֶׁאֵין פֵּירוּשׁ הַפָּסוּק כָּךְ), rather, “as it is said, ‘And offer prayer on behalf of the remnant that is found’” (אֶלָּא כַּמָּה דְאַתְּ אָמַר וְנָשָׂאתָ תְּפִלָּה בְּעַד הַשְּׁאֵרִית הַנִּמְצָאָה), specifically in the collective sense (דַּיְיקָא בִּכְלָל), namely all of Yisrael (דְּהַיְינוּ לְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל), for there too it appears at first glance that it means only a remnant of those found and not all of them (שֶׁגַּם לְשָׁם נִרְאֶה שֶׁרְצוֹנוֹ לוֹמַר שְׁאֵרִית מִן הַנִּמְצָאִים וְלֹא כֻלָּם), but in truth it is not so (וּבֶאֱמֶת אֵינוֹ כָּךְ), rather “that is found” means the entirety that is found (אֶלָּא הַנִּמְצָאָה מַמָּשׁ בִּכְלָל), namely all of Yisrael (דְּהַיְינוּ כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל). And this remnant is what the verse calls “that is found” (וְשָׁאֵרִית זֶהוּ שֶׁאָמַר הַכָּתוּב הַנִּמְצָאָה), meaning truly the remnant (הַיְינוּ מַמָּשׁ שְׁאֵרִית), that is, all of Yisrael together who are called by the name “remnant” (כְּלוֹמַר כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל יַחַד שֶׁנִּקְרָאִים בְּשֵׁם שְׁאֵרִית), and the proof is that it is written “the remnant of Yisrael” (וְהָרְאָיָה דִּכְתִיב שְׁאֵרִית יִשְׂרָאֵל) (Micah 2:12). Therefore, what the verse says, “to the remnant of His inheritance” (אִם כֵּן גַּם מַה שֶּׁאָמַר הַכָּתוּב לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ), means the remnant who are His inheritance (הַכַּוָּנָה לַשְּׁאֵרִית שֶׁהֵם נַחֲלָתוֹ), and it means all of Yisrael together (וּרְצוֹנוֹ לוֹמַר כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל יַחַד). And with this the fourth Tikkun of the Reisha DeEin [Head of Nothingness] is completed (וּבָזֶה נִשְׁלַם הַתִּיקּוּן הָרְבִיעִי שֶׁל רֵישָׁא דְאֵין), which is Netzach and is called “to the remnant of His inheritance” (שֶׁהוּא נֵצַח הַנִּקְרָא לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ).
