Daf 35a (דַּף ל״ה ע״א)

Therefore she is the fourth of the Ten Commandments (וְלָכֵן הִיא רְבִיעִית בַּעֲשֶׂרֶת הַדִּבְּרוֹת), for she is called Shabbat Kallah Malka [Sabbath, the Queenly Bride] (כִּי הִיא נִקְרֵאת שַׁבָּת כַּלָּה מַלְכְּתָא). And let us return to our subject (וְנַחֲזוֹר לְעִנְיָנֵינוּ), for this Spirit blows below (שֶׁהָרוּחַ הַזֶּה נוֹשֵׁב לְמַטָּה), and separates between Tohu, the dwelling place of the Zohama [Impurity] of the Tehom [Deep] (וּמַפְרִיד בֵּין תֹּהוּ מְדוֹרָא דְּזוֹהֲמָא שֶׁל תְּהוֹם), and the Nogah [Brightness] that clings to the Darkness within it, namely the Judgments of the five Gevurot [Powers of Judgment] (וּבֵין הַנּוֹגַהּ הַנִּדְבָּק בַּחֹשֶׁךְ שֶׁבָּהּ הֵם הַדִּינִין שֶׁל ה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת), and the Nogah [Brightness] is the heel of Holiness (וְהַנּוֹגַהּ הִיא עָקֵב הַקְּדֻשָּׁה), and is called the Subtle Light in the language of the Zohar (וְנִקְרֵאת נְהוֹרָא דַּקִּיק בִּלְשׁוֹן הַזֹּהַר), which, because of sin, illuminates the Klipah (הַמֵּאִיר בְּסִבַּת הַחֵטְא לַקְּלִיפָּה), in the mystery of, “And you shall bruise him on the heel” (בְּסוֹד וְאַתָּה תְּשׁוּפֶנּוּ עָקֵב) (Genesis 3:15), whose numerical value is two times Elohim (גִּי׳ ב׳ פְּעָמִים אֱלֹהִים). And this is the meaning of, “The Spirit blew and separated one subtle thing from within that refuse” (וְזֶהוּ אוֹמְרוֹ רוּחַ נָשִׁיב אֲבָרִיר דַּקִּיקוּ חַד מִגּוֹ הַהוּא פְּסוֹלֶת). Its explanation is: the Spirit of the aforementioned Spelling in Full of Elohim blew (פֵּרוּשׁוֹ הוּא הָרוּחַ שֶׁל מִלּוּי אֱלֹהִים הַנִּזְכָּר נָשִׁיב), and separated for Holiness one subtle thing (וּבוֹרֵר לַקְּדֻשָּׁה דַּקִּיקוּ חַד), namely the Subtle Light, from within that refuse of the Klipah (פֵּרוּשׁ הַנְּהוֹרָא דַּקִּיק מִגּוֹ הַהוּא פְּסוֹלֶת שֶׁל הַקְּלִיפָּה), like a particle of impurity (כְּטִיסָא דְּזוֹהֲמָא), when it was refined and purified time after time (כַּד אִתְבְּרִיר וְאִצְטָרִיף זִמְנָא וּתְרֵין), until that in which there was no impurity remained (עַד דְּאִשְׁתָּאַר הַהוּא דְּלֵית בֵּיהּ זוֹהֲמָא בְּלָל).

Its explanation is: just as in the refining furnace of the refiner, who wishes to separate the silver from the copper and the rest of the refuse (פֵּרוּשׁ כְּמוֹ כּוּר הַצֵּרוּף שֶׁל הַצּוֹרֵף שֶׁרוֹצֶה לְצָרֵף מִן הַכֶּסֶף הַנְּחֹשֶׁת וּשְׁאָר פְּסוֹלֶת), he must add lead to it (צָרִיךְ לָתֵת בּוֹ עוֹפֶרֶת), and together they are consumed and cut off by the blast (וּשְׁנֵיהֶם יַחַד אוּמְלְלוּ וְנִכְרְתוּ בְּהֶבֶל), so too here (כֵּן בְּכָאן), when the Holy One, blessed be He, wished to separate the food from the refuse (כְּשֶׁרָצָה הַקָּבָּ״ה לְצָרֵף אֶת הָאֹכֶל מִתּוֹךְ הַפְּסוֹלֶת), namely, the Klipot are the refuse (דְּהַיְינוּ הַקְּלִיפּוֹת הֵם הַפְּסוֹלֶת), and the food is the holy Judgments together with the drop of Chesed [Kindness], the sparks of purity within them (וְהָאֹכֶל הֵם הַדִּינִין הַקְּדוֹשִׁים עִם טִפַּת הַחֶסֶד נִיצוֹצֵי טָהֳרָה שֶׁבְּתוֹכָם), the Malkhut was compelled to take a portion of the refuse from among them (הוּכְרְחָה מַלְכוּת לִקַּח חֵלֶק פְּסוֹלֶת מִתּוֹכָם), namely this Sanpir [Fin] (דְּהַיְינוּ סַנְפִּי״ר הַזֶּה), and she ascended with them into Abba (וְעָלְתָה עִמָּם בְּאַבָּא), and there the food was separated from the refuse (וְשָׁם נִבְרַר הָאֹכֶל מִתּוֹךְ הַפְּסוֹלֶת), and there the excess and the unnecessary letters were cast away and fell below (וְשָׁם נִדְחוּ הַמּוֹתָרוֹת וְהָאוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁהֵם שֶׁלֹּא לְצוֹרֶךְ וְנָפְלוּ לְמַטָּה), while the food remained above for her need and her rectification (וְהָאֹכֶל נִשְׁאַר לְמַעְלָה לְצָרְכָּהּ לְתִקּוּנָהּ), and all this was accomplished through the power of the lead placed into this furnace, namely this Sanpir [Fin] mentioned above (וְהַכֹּל נַעֲשׂוּ בְּכֹחַ הָעוֹפֶרֶת שֶׁנִּתַּן לְתוֹךְ הַכּוּר הַזֶּה הוּא הַסַּנְפִּיר הַזֶּה שֶׁנִּזְכָּר), and this is the meaning of, “like a particle of impurity” (וְזֶהוּ אוֹמְרוֹ כְּטִיסָא דְּזוֹהֲמָא), its explanation is: a fragment of the impurity and its attachment (פֵּרוּשׁ חֲתִיכַת הַזּוֹהֲמָא וְקִשְׁרוֹ), “when it was refined and purified” (כַּד אִתְבְּרִיר וְאִצְטָרִיף), its explanation is: at the time when the refiner whitens it, refines it, and purifies it, purification after purification (פֵּרוּשׁ בִּזְמַן שֶׁהַצּוֹרֵף מְלַבְּנוֹ וּמְבָרְרוֹ וּמְצָרְפוֹ צֵרוּף אַחַר צֵרוּף), once and twice (זִמְנָא וּתְרֵין פַּעַם אַחַת וּשְׁתַּיִם).
