Daf 72a (דַּף ע״ב ע״א)
In the mystery of the Mouth and in the mystery of the kisses (בְּסוֹד פֶּה וּבְסוֹד נְשִׁיקִין), for because they are Above they receive from the Mouth of Arich Anpin (כִּי לִהְיוֹתָם לְמַעְלָה מְקַבְּלִים מִפּוּמָא דַּאֲרִיךְ), in the mystery of, “Eat, O friends” (בְּסוֹד אִכְלוּ רֵעִים) (Song of Songs 5:1), and the Hevel [Breath] of the Mouth of Arich Anpin becomes the mystery of the kisses (וְהֶבֶל פּוּמָא דַּאֲרִיךְ נַעֲשָׂה בְּסוֹד נְשִׁיקִין), therefore every Zivug [Union] is called by the mystery of the Mouth and the kisses (לָכֵן כָּל הַזִּוּוּג נִקְרָא בְּסוֹד פֶּה וּנְשִׁיקִין). And there is the other Rose (וְיֵשׁ שׁוֹשַׁנָּה הָאַחֶרֶת), when she is below (בִּהְיוֹתָהּ לְמַטָּה), and she is among the thorns (וְהִיא בֵּין הַחוֹחִים), namely among the Klipot [Shells] (שֶׁהִיא בֵּין הַקְּלִיפּוֹת), and she is the Shekhinah Tata'ah [Lower Shekhinah], dwelling in Beri'ah (וְהִיא שְׁכִינְתָא תַּתָּאָה הַמְקַנֶּנֶת בִּבְרִיאָה). And the explanation of the verse is as follows (וּפֵי׳ הַפָּסוּק כָּךְ): “Like a rose among the thorns” (כְּשׁוֹשַׁנָּה בֵּין הַחוֹחִים) (Song of Songs 2:2), namely the Shekhinah Tata'ah [Lower Shekhinah] (דְּהַיְינוּ שְׁכִינְתָא תַּתָּאָה), “so is My beloved” (כֵּן רַעְיָתִי), namely the Shekhinah Ila'ah [Supernal Shekhinah] (דְּהַיְינוּ שְׁכִינְתָא עִלָּאָה), while she is in Binah [Understanding], which is called His beloved (בִּהְיוֹתָהּ בְּבִינָה הַנִּקְרֵאת רַעֲיָתוֹ), and “My beloved” (וְרַעְיָתִי) is in the mystery of, “Eat, O friends” (בְּסוֹד אִכְלוּ רֵעִים) (Song of Songs 5:1), namely those who are never separated (אִינוּן דְּלָא מִתְפָּרְשָׁן לְעָלְמִין). This is the meaning of, “What is the Rose? This is Knesset Yisrael” (וְהַיְינוּ דְּקָאָמַר מַאי שׁוֹשַׁנָּה דָּא כ״י), namely the Shekhinah Ila'ah [Supernal Shekhinah] (דְּהַיְינוּ שְׁכִינְתָא עִלָּאָה), “because there is a Rose and there is a Rose” (בְּגִין דְּאִית שׁוֹשַׁנָּה וְאִית שׁוֹשַׁנָּה), namely the Shekhinah Ila'ah [Supernal Shekhinah] and the Shekhinah Tata'ah [Lower Shekhinah] (דְּהַיְינוּ שְׁכִינְתָא עִלָּאָה וּשְׁכִינְתָא תַּתָּאָה), and the verse states, “Like a rose among the thorns, so is My beloved” (וְקָאָמַר קְרָא כְּשׁוֹשַׁנָּה בֵּין הַחוֹחִים כֵּן רַעְיָתִי) (Song of Songs 2:2), namely the Supernal Rose, the Shekhinah Ila'ah [Supernal Shekhinah] (דְּהַיְינוּ שׁוֹשַׁנָּה עִלָּאָה שְׁכִינְתָא עִלָּאָה). And he says: just as the Rose that is among the thorns (וְאָמַר מָה שׁוֹשַׁנָּה שֶׁהִיא בֵּין הַחוֹחִים), among the Klipot, namely the Shekhinah Tata'ah [Lower Shekhinah], dwelling in Beri'ah (בֵּין הַקְּלִיפּוֹת שֶׁהִיא שְׁכִינְתָא תַּתָּאָה הַמְקַנֶּנֶת בִּבְרִיאָה), around whom the Klipot surround (שֶׁהַקְּלִיפּוֹת מְסַבְּבִים אוֹתָהּ), contains red and white (וְאִית בָּהּ סוּמָק וְחִיוָּר), for necessarily she possesses Din [Judgment], since she is below among the Klipot (שֶׁבְּהֶכְרֵחַ יֵשׁ לָהּ דִּין אַחֲרֵי שֶׁהִיא לְמַטָּה אֵצֶל הַקְּלִיפּוֹת), because “her feet descend to death” (כִּי רַגְלֶיהָ יוֹרְדוֹת מָוֶת) (Proverbs 5:5), in the World of Separation (בְּעָלְמָא דְּפֵרוּדָא), so too here Knesset Yisrael (כֵּן הָכָא כ״י), namely the Shekhinah Ila'ah [Supernal Shekhinah] (דְּהַיְינוּ שְׁכִינְתָא עִלָּאָה), possesses Din [Judgment] and Rachamim [Mercy] (יֵשׁ בָּהּ דִּין וְרַחֲמִים), and because below there are colors (וּלְפִי שֶׁלְּמַטָּה יֵשׁ גְּוָנִים), therefore it says “red and white” (לְפִיכָךְ אָמַר סוּמָק וְחִיוָּר), namely Rachamim [Mercy] included within Din [Judgment] (דְּהַיְינוּ כָּלוּל רַחֲמֵי בְּדִינָא), whereas Above, where there are no colors (אֲבָל לְמַעְלָה שֶׁאֵין גְּוָנִים), it says Din [Judgment] and Rachamim [Mercy] (אָמַר דִּינָא וְרַחֲמֵי). Just as the Rose has thirteen petals (מָה שׁוֹשַׁנָּה אִית בָּהּ י״ג עָלִין), its explanation is: the Shekhinah Tata'ah [Lower Shekhinah] stands upon the twelve oxen (פֵּי׳ שְׁכִינְתָא תַּתָּאָה עוֹמֶדֶת עַל שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר בָּקָר), with the Sea above them (וְהַיָּם עֲלֵיהֶם מִלְמַעְלָה), making thirteen (הֲרֵי י״ג), and these are indeed her thirteen petals (וְהֵם הֵם תְּלֵיסַר עָלִין דִּילָהּ), and the Shekhinah Ila'ah [Supernal Shekhinah] sends her Name Elohim (וְהַשְּׁכִינְתָא עִלָּאָה שׁוֹלַחַת שֵׁם אֱלֹהִים שֶׁלָּהּ), whose Spelling in Full contains thirteen letters (שֶׁיֵּשׁ בְּמִלּוּאוֹ י״ג אוֹתִיּוֹת כָּזֶה אַלֶ״ף לָמֶ״ד הֵ״י יוֹ״ד מֵ״ם), to guard her and protect her from the Klipot (לִשְׁמוֹר אוֹתָהּ וּלְהָגֵן בַּעֲדָהּ מִן הַקְּלִיפּוֹת), and within it there is Judgment against the Klipot, for the Name Elohim signifies Judgment (וְיֵשׁ בּוֹ דִּין עַל הַקְּלִיפּוֹת שֶׁמּוֹרֶה דִּין כִּי שֵׁם אֱלֹהִים יֵשׁ בּוֹ דִּין), and since its Hehs are spelled with Yods (וְכֵיוָן שֶׁהֵ״י שֶׁלּוֹ בְּיוֹ״ד).
