Daf 74a [Daf 75a] (דַּף ע״ד ע״א [צ״ל ע״ה ע״א])

The seven supernal ones (ז׳ עֶלְיוֹנִים), and her seven maidens (וְשֶׁבַע הַנְּעָרוֹת שֶׁלָּהּ), and each one is included of six extremities (וְכָל א׳ כְּלוּלָה מִשֵּׁשׁ קְצָווֹת), making forty-two Zivugim [Unions] (הֲרֵי מ״ב זִוּוּגִים), forty-two males and forty-two females (מ״ב זְכָרִים וּמ״ב נְקֵבוֹת), upper waters and lower waters (מַיִם עֶלְיוֹנִים וּמַיִם הַתַּחְתּוֹנִים), and what she sows is through these forty-two Zivugim [Unions] (וּמַה שֶּׁהִיא מַזְרַעַת הוּא ע״י מ״ב זִוּוּגִין אֵלּוּ), therefore it says, “that seed is sown through forty-two Zivugim [Unions]” (וּלְפִיכָךְ אָמַר דְּאִזְדְּרַע בְּמ״ב זִוּוּגִין הַהוּא זַרְעָא). And the matter is to raise the Shekhinah to the mystery of the Menorah [Lampstand] (וְהָעִנְיָן הוּא לְהַעֲלוֹת הַשְּׁכִינָה אֶל סוֹד הַמְּנוֹרָה), which is to his seven (שֶׁהוּא לְשֶׁבַע שֶׁלּוֹ), and she too becomes seventy (וְנַעֲשֵׂית גַּם הִיא ע׳), in the mystery of the Ayin of Shema, which is large (בְּסוֹד עַיִן שֶׁל שְׁמַע שֶׁהִיא גְּדוֹלָה), according to the measure of two eyes (כְּשִׁעוּר שְׁתֵּי עֵיינִין), which are his seven and her seven (שֶׁהֵם שֶׁבַע שֶׁלּוֹ וְשֶׁבַע שֶׁלָּהּ). Therefore this Elohim is needed (וְלָכֵן צָרִיךְ אֱלֹהִים זֶה), which is the mystery of the Cup of Salvations (שֶׁהוּא סוֹד כּוֹס יְשׁוּעוֹת), whose numerical value is Elohim (בְּגִי׳ אֱלֹהִים), and they are the five strong petals that surround the Rose (וְהֵם חֲמֵשׁ עָלִין תַּקִּיפִין דְּסַחֲרִין לַשּׁוֹשַׁנָּה). And in Atzilut it is living Elohim (וּבַאֲצִילוּת הוּא אֱלֹהִים חַיִּים), but when it spreads below it is not so good (אֲבָל כְּשֶׁמִּתְפַּשֵּׁט לְמַטָּה אֵינוֹ טוֹב כָּל כָּךְ), except when it is in the Spelling in Full of the Name Havayah (רַק כְּשֶׁהוּא בְּמִלּוּי שֶׁל שֵׁם הוי״ה), in the mystery of the eleven (בְּסוֹד הי״א), and the Spelling in Full of Elohim is thirteen letters (וְהַמִּלּוּי שֶׁל אֱלֹהִים הוּא י״ג אוֹתִיּוֹת), and they are the thirteen petals (וְהֵם הַתְּלֵיסַר עָלִין). When it is with Yods, it is in Beri'ah and it is Rachamim [Mercy] (כְּשֶׁהוּא בְּיוֹדִין הוּא בִּבְרִיאָה וְהוּא רַחֲמִים), for so it equals in numerical value “With great mercy I will gather you” (שֶׁכֵּן עוֹלֶה בְּגִי׳ בְּרַחֲמִים גְּדוֹלִים אֲקַבְּצֵךְ) (Isaiah 54:7), and it contains letters according to the numerical value of Echad [One] (וְיֵשׁ בּוֹ אוֹתִיּוֹת כְּמִנְיַן אֶחָד), to surround the Rose, which is the Shekhinah and Beri'ah (לְסַבֵּב הַשּׁוֹשַׁנָּה שֶׁהִיא שְׁכִינְתָא וּבְרִיאָה), for there is the mystery of kisses (שֶׁשָּׁם הוּא סוֹד נְשִׁיקִין), because Abba and Imma dwell in the Throne (כִּי אַבָּא וְאִמָּא מְקַנְּנִים בְּכוּרְסַיָּא), and the thirteen letters stand around the Rose (וְהַי״ג אוֹתִיּוֹת הֵם עוֹמְדִים סָבִיב לַשּׁוֹשַׁנָּה), to guard the betrothed maiden from among the thorns (לִשְׁמוֹר נַעֲרָה הַמְאֹרָסָה מִבֵּין הַחוֹחִים), so that they should not rule over her, God forbid (שֶׁלֹּא יִשְׁלְטוּ בָּהּ ח״ו), and so that she should not be without a savior (וְלֹא יִהְיֶה לָהּ מוֹשִׁיעַ). And the Name of Forty-Two is in Yetzirah (וְהַשֵּׁם מ״ב הוּא בִּיצִירָה), in the seven chambers (בְּז׳ מְדוֹרִין), which constantly raises Mayin Nukvin [Feminine Waters] (הַמַּעֲלֶה מַיִין נוּקְבִין תָּמִיד), and from it, through the Atika [Ancient One] of the seven Partzufim [Configurations] that accompany it, is made the seed of the Neshamot [Souls] and the angels (וּמִמֶּנּוּ נַעֲשֶׂה ע״י עַתִּיקָא דְּז׳ פַּרְצוּפִין הַנִּלְוִים אֵלָיו זֶרַע שֶׁל הַנְּשָׁמוֹת וְהַמַּלְאָכִים), and from it, through the Covenant, angels, Neshamot [Souls], and Names are sown (וּמִמֶּנּוּ נִזְרָע ע״י הַבְּרִית מַלְאָכִים וּנְשָׁמוֹת וְשֵׁמוֹת), which are the mystery of Beri'ah and Atzilut (שֶׁהֵם סוֹד בְּרִיאָה וַאֲצִילוּת), and the Covenant receives everything (וְהַכֹּל מְקַבְּלוֹ הַבְּרִית), and it is concealed within it until the time of its emergence (וְנִגְנָז בְּתוֹכוֹ עַד זְמַן צֵאתוֹ), through the Name of Forty-Two, seven Names, each with six letters (בְּשֵׁם מ״ב ז׳ שֵׁמוֹת וּבְכָל א׳ ו׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת),
