Chapter 29, Section 2 (פֶּרֶק כ״ט אוֹת ב׳)

2. For great was your idleness from the exiles (ב. כִּי בָטָלָה גְּדוֹלָה הָיְתָה לָכֶם מִן הַגָּלֻיּוֹת), and I longed-when shall I hear words of Torah from your mouths? (וְהִתְאַוֵּיתִי מָתַי אֶשְׁמַע דִּבְרֵי תוֹרָה מִפִּיכֶם). But you did not act well (כִּי אַתֶּם לֹא עֲשִׂיתֶם יָפֶה), for you took from My glory (שֶׁלָּקַחְתֶּם מִכְּבוֹדִי), and I became angry with you (וְכָעַסְתִּי עֲלֵיכֶם), and I rose and acted against My city, and against My House, and against My children, destruction (וְעָמַדְתִּי וְעָשִׂיתִי עַל עִירִי וְעַל בֵּיתִי וְעַל בָּנַי כָּלָה). And I did not act well (וַאֲנִי לֹא עָשִׂיתִי יָפֶה), that I stood opposite you and sealed upon you a decree of judgment (שֶׁעָמַדְתִּי לְנֶגֶדְכֶם וְחָתַמְתִּי עֲלֵיכֶם גְּזַר דִּין), which surely would have stood forever and for all eternity (בוודאי שֶׁהָיָה עוֹמֵד לְעוֹלָם וּלְעולְמֵי עוֹלָמִים). And there would be for Me a contest of measure-(וּתְהֵא לִי תַּחֲרוּת מִדָּה), which has no length or two or ten or thirty (שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם אֶרֶךְ אוֹ שְׁתַּיִם אוֹ עֶשֶׂר אוֹ שְׁלוֹשִׁים), and if by might-until a hundred (אִם בִּגְבוּרוֹת עַד מֵאָה), and it would go on-(וְהָלְכָה לָהּ). But it is you who reproved Me (אֶלָּא שֶׁאַתֶּם הוֹכַחְתֶּם אוֹתִי), and you have done well (אַתֶּם יָפֶה עֲשִׂיתֶם), I have accepted upon Myself your reproof (קִבַּלְתִּי עָלַי תּוֹכַחְתְּכֶם).
