6b (ו׳:ב׳)

Behold, here are these letters (הִנֵּה לְךָ אֵלּוּ הָאוֹתִיּוֹת), each one grasped with its partner to which it is joined (כָּל אַחַת נֶאֱחֶזֶת עִם חֲבֶרְתָּהּ אֲשֶׁר הִיא מְחֻבֶּרֶת לָהּ), for every pair of them equals the number ten (שֶׁכָּל זוּג מֵהֶן עוֹלֶה לְמִנְיָן עֲשָׂרָה), like the ten Sefirot and the ten utterances (כְּמוֹ עֶשֶׂר סְפִירוֹת וַעֲשָׂרָה מַאֲמָרוֹת). And the letter Heh, which is in the middle, is spiritual (וְהַהֵ״א שֶׁהִיא אֶמְצָעִית, הִיא רוּחָנִית), and has no partner except for the Nun (וְאֵין לָהּ זוּג זוּלַת הַנו״ן), which is also central and has no partner (שֶׁהִיא גַּם כֵּן אֶמְצָעִית וְאֵין לָהּ זוּג), and both of them together total ten (וּשְׁתֵּיהֶן מְחֻבָּרוֹת וְעוֹלוֹת לְמִנְיָן עֲשָׂרָה). And these two letters Heh and Nun have greater elevation than the other letters (וּלִשְׁתֵּי אוֹתִיּוֹת ה״ נ״ יֵשׁ לָהֶן יוֹתֵר מַעֲלָה מִשְּׁאָר הָאוֹתִיּוֹת), since they hint at a portion of the Divine spirit from the Holy One Blessed Be He (לְפִי שֶׁהֵן רוֹמְזוֹת לְחֵלֶק מֵרוּחַ הָאֱלוֹהִי מֵהקב״ה), for from them intellect and life are bestowed to all created beings (שֶׁמֵּהֶן מוּשְׁפָעִים שֵׂכֶל וְחַיִּים לְכָל הַנִּבְרָאִים).

Therefore, these two letters are in the middle (וְלָכֵךְ שְׁתֵּי הָאוֹתִיּוֹת הַלָּלוּ בָּאֶמְצַע), like the Neshamah in the center of the human body (כְּמוֹ הַנְּשָׁמָה בְּאֶמְצַע גּוּף הָאָדָם), and implanted within it as I explained above (וּנְטוּעָה בּוֹ כְּמוֹ שֶׁפֵּרַשְׁתִּי לְעֵיל). And the Yesod is our father Yisrael (וְהַיְּסוֹד הוּא יִשְׂרָאֵל אָבִינוּ), for whose sake the world was created (שֶׁבִּשְׁבִילוֹ נִבְרָא הָעוֹלָם). Therefore there must be here a hint to the body of man (לְפִיכָךְ צָרִיךְ שֶׁיִּהְיֶה בְּכָאן רֶמֶז גּוּף הָאָדָם), and it is hinted in the four letters Kuf, Resh, Shin, Tav (וְהוּא רָמוּז בְּד׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת ק ר ש ת), which correspond to the four elements (שֶׁהֵן כְּנֶגֶד ד׳ יְסוֹדוֹת), and total ten in Mispar katan [reduced numerical value] (וְעוֹלוֹת לְמִנְיָן עֲשָׂרָה בְּמִסְפָּר קָטָן), to align with the number of the earlier letters (כְּדֵי לְכַוֵּן עִם הַמִּסְפָּר שֶׁל הָאוֹתִיּוֹת הָרִאשׁוֹנוֹת), where each pair totals ten as we wrote (שֶׁכָּל ב׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת עוֹלוֹת לְמִנְיָן עֲשָׂרָה כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתַבְנוּ).

And likewise the name Yisrael equals ten (וְגַם כֵּן שֵׁם יִשְׂרָאֵל עוֹלֶה לְמִנְיָן עֲשָׂרָה), so that the spirit of the Holy One Blessed Be He can rest upon him (כְּדֵי שֶׁיוּכַל לָנוּחַ עָלָיו רוּחוֹ שֶׁל הקב״ה), for it does not descend below ten (שֶׁאֵינוֹ יוֹרֵד לְמַטָּה מֵעֲשָׂרָה), as our sages of blessed memory said: “The Shekhinah never descended below ten” (כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמְרוּ ז״ל: לְעוֹלָם לֹא יָרְדָה שְׁכִינָה לְמַטָּה מֵעֲשָׂרָה). And these four letters in which man is hinted (וְאֵלּוּ אַרְבַּע אוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁרָמוּז בָּהֶן אָדָם) are body alone, without the spirit of life (הֵן גּוּף בְּלִי רוּחַ חַיִּים). And the letters in which the spirit of life is hinted are eighteen (וְאֵלּוּ הָאוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁרָמוּז בָּהֶן רוּחַ חַיִּים הֵן י״ח), the value of “Chai [Life]” (כְּמִנְיָן חַי), for from them life is imparted to all beings (שֶׁמֵּהֶן נִתָּנִים חַיִּים לְכָל הַנִּבְרָאִים). And the first nine letters total four times ten (וְט׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת רִאשׁוֹנוֹת עוֹלוֹת ד׳ פְּעָמִים עֲשָׂרָה), except for the Heh which is in the center (לְבַד הַהֵ״א שֶׁהִיא בָּאֶמְצַע), and all of them total forty-five (וְכוּלָּן עוֹלוֹת לְמִנְיָן מ״ה), which is the name Havayah, namely: Yud Heh Vav Heh (כֵּיצַד: יו״ד ה״א וָא״ו ה״א).

And likewise, the nine second letters in Mispar katan [reduced numerical value] together with the nun which is in the center total forty-five (וְכֵן עוֹלוֹת ט׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת שֵׁנִיּוֹת בְּמִסְפָּר קָטָן עִם הַנ״ו שֶׁהִיא בָּאֶמְצַע לְמִנְיָן מ״ה). And further, the nine first and second letters total ninety (וְעוֹד, עוֹלוֹת ט׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת רִאשׁוֹנוֹת וְשֵׁנִיּוֹת לְמִנְיָן צ״), and Adam, hinted in the letters Kuf, Resh, Shin, Tav, which total ten (וְאָדָם שֶׁהוּא רָמוּז בְּאוֹתִיּוֹת ק ר ש ת שֶׁעוֹלֶה עֲשָׂרָה), thus all letters total one hundred (הֲרֵי שֶׁעוֹלוֹת כָּל הָאוֹתִיּוֹת לְמִסְפָּר מֵאָה), which is Kuf (שֶׁהִיא ק׳).

And also, kuf in its full spelling equals one hundred eighty-six (וְגַם, קו״ף בִּמְלוֹאָהּ מֵאָה וּשְׁמוֹנִים וְשֵׁשׁ), and likewise the Name Havayah, by this combination, totals the same (וְכֵן עוֹלֶה שֵׁם הַוָיָ״ה בְּצֵירוּפוֹ), namely: Yod ten times is one hundred (כֵּיצַד: יו״ד – יו״ד פְּעָמִים הֵם ק׳), Heh five times is twenty-five (ה״א – ה״א פְּעָמִים הֵם כ״ה), Vav six times is thirty-six (וא״ו – וא״ו פְּעָמִים הֵם ל״ו), Heh five times is twenty-five (ה״א – ה״א פְּעָמִים הֵם כ״ה), all totaling Kuf (הַכֹּל עוֹלֶה לְמִנְיָן קו״ף), to allude that all is found and flows from the Holy One Blessed Be He (לְרַמֵּז שֶׁהַכֹּל נִמְצָא וּמֻשְׁפָּע מֵהקב״ה).
