All judgments of the world go forth from this palace, whether for good or for evil Except for [the matters of] children, life, and sustenance (בַּר [קפ״א ע״א]: תְּלַת בָּנֵ״י, חַיֵ״י, וּמְזוֹנֵ״י), for permission has not been granted over these in this place (דְּלָא אִתְיְהַב רְשׁוּ בַּאֲתַר דָּא). For at that supernal river from which all lights flow, the matter stands At the center of this palace is a place prepared to receive the supernal ruach within this ruach, and this one ascends in them
There are twelve gates in this palace At each and every gate are stationed all those officers and appointees, who are heralds to announce below all the judgments destined to descend into the world (בְּכָל פִּתְחָא וּפִתְחָא, כָּל אִנּוּן סָרְכִין וּמְמַנָּן דְּאִנּוּן מַכְרְזֵי לְאוֹדָעָא לְתַתָּא כָּל אִנּוּן דִּינִין דִּזְמִינִין לְנַחֲתָא לְתַתָּא), as it is said: He called with strength, and so he said: cut down the tree, etc. And from these heralds the matter is received by all the officers with wings, until they announce the matter to the firmament
And from there, when the sun goes forth, the matter proceeds and is spread in the world, until it reaches that serpent of the firmament (וּמִתַּמָּן כַּד נָפִיק שִׁמְשָׁא, נָפִיק מִלָּה וְאִתְשַׁטְּיָיא בְּעָלְמָא עַד דְּמָטֵי לְהַהוּא חִיוְיָא דִּרְקִיעָא), in whom all stars of the firmament are frozen, for he stands at the center of the firmament (דְּכָל כּוֹכְבֵי דִּרְקִיעָא גְּלִידוּ בֵּיהּ, דְּאִיהוּ בְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא דִּרְקִיעָא).
And they hear the matter and seize it—those officers beneath [the heavens]—another reading: [the sun]—and those who are appointed over that serpent; and from there it spreads throughout the world And even Ruchin [Spirits] and Shedin [Demons], and even the birds of the heavens, make it known in the world The heralds return and close the gates The Ruach [Spirit] does not ascend—another reading: [to ascend]—within Ruach [Spirit], until all the lower Ruchin [Spirits] are all one together with this Ruach [Spirit]—another reading: [the subsequent Ruach]—and all are included and enter one within another, until all is made one
When a person is in the house of his Master, here he is judged-whether for life or for death Life depends on above-if he is judged here for life, they grant life from above; and if not, they do not grant Fortunate is the portion of one who cleaves to his Master and enters and exits Here is prostration face-down to the earth, to overcome judgment Of this palace it is said: El, faithful God, without iniquity…
The fifth palace-this palace is the palace of radiant lightning (הֵיכָלָא חֲמִישָּׁאָה: הֵיכָלָא דָּא הֵיכָלָא דִּבְרָקָא זְהֵיר), which is the ruach that radiates light to those below (דְּאִיהוּ רוּחָא דְּמַזְהִיר נָהִיר לְאִנּוּן תַּתָּאֵי). This ruach is permeable and open, and closes, radiant and sparkling in all directions From its sparkle shines one light resembling purple This light includes all-some say: all-radiant colors (נְהוֹרָא דָּא כָּלִיל כָּל [ד״א: כְּלָל] גְּוָנִין דְּנָהֲרִין): white, black, red, and green (נְהוֹרָא חִוָּור וְאוּכָם סוּמָק וְיָרוֹק). These are interwoven one with another (אִתְכְּלִילָן אִלֵּין בְּאִלֵּין): white with red, black with green (אִתְרְקִים חִוָּור בְּסוּמָק, אוּכָם בְּיָרוֹק), and afterward white with black (לְבָתַר חִוָּור בְּאוּכָם). And from this was formed one embroidered supernal living being, within which were interwoven green and red (וְאִתְעֲבִיד חַד חֵיוָתָא מְרֻקָּמָא, וְאִתְכְּלִיל בָּהּ יָרוֹק וְסוּמָק), whose form is like the form of a human, and contains all forms (דִּיוֹקְנָהָא כִּדִּיוּקְנָא דְּבַר נָשׁ דְּכָלִיל כָּל דִּיוּקְנִין).
From her emerge four supporters-these are mighty supernal living beings over those below One is called Ofan, which is two, because when this one appears, another within it is illuminated This one is bound to that one, enters one into the other (דָּבִיק דָּא בְּדָא, עָאל דָּא בְּדָא), and afterward another enters into this one, and four heads are seen in the four directions of the world, all one body (לְבָתַר עָאל אָחֳרָא דָּא בְּדָא, וְאִתְחַזּוּן ד׳ רֵישִׁין לְד׳ סִטְרִין דְּעָלְמָא, וְכֻּלְהוּ חַד גּוּפָא). And these are those about whom it is written: The wheel within the wheel (Yechezkel 1) And all of these are bound one to another (וְכֻּלְהוּ אִלֵּין קְשִׁירִין דָּא בְּדָא), like the appearance-some say: vision-of supernal living beings that are never separated (כְּחֵיזוּ [נ״א: דְּחֵיזוּן] דְּחֵיוָון עִלָּאִין דְּלָא מִתְפָּרְשָׁן לְעָלְמִין). This supernal living being of four woven colors is bound one with another in the four directions From here, when this living being moves, it turns to two directions
This ruach of lightning was integrated with two ruchin This ruach of lightning brought forth one supernal living being and all those lights Another ruach was illuminated from it, which is called the burning ruach (רוּחָא אָחֳרָא אִתְנְהִיר מִנֵּיהּ דְּאִקְרֵי רוּחָא מְלַהֲטָא), and from it shine two lights, which are four (נָהֲרִין מִנֵּיהּ תְּרֵין נְהוֹרִין דְּאִנּוּן אַרְבַּע). And these lights rotate through colors And this is what is written: the flaming sword that turns (Bereshit 3)
These are the lights that rotate-the edge of the sword (אִלֵּין אִנּוּן נְהוֹרִין דְּמִתְהַפְּכָן: שְׁנָנָא דְּחַרְבָּא), some say: inscribed (וְאֵלֵין גְּלִיף). And these stand over the lower palace (וְאִלֵּין קָיְימֵי עַל הֵיכָלָא דִּלְתַּתָּא), because this flaming sword stands over those seventy lights of judgment (בְּגִין דְּהַאי לַהַט הַחֶרֶב קָיְימָא עַל אִנּוּן ע׳ נְהוֹרִין דְּבֵי דִּינָא). From here, all judges who judge judgments have the sword hanging over their heads from above
This flaming sword-from these lights of the left side-brought forth another supernal living being (הַאי לַהַט הַחֶרֶב דְּאִלֵּין אִנּוּן נְהוֹרִין דְּלִסְטַר שְׂמָאלָא: אַפִּיקוּ חַד חֵיוָתָא אָחֳרָא), which stands upon four that do not stand in their own stability-two on the right and two on the left (דְּקָיְימָא עַל ד׳ דְּלָא קָיְמֵי בְּקִיּוּמַיְיהוּ: תְּרֵי מִיְּמִינָא וּתְּרֵי מִשְּׂמָאלָא). When the ruach of this living being entered into them, two burning sparks flared from them And they went forth from this palace outward and constantly revolved
These are the sparks (אִלֵּין נִיצוֹצִין) They blaze (מְלַהֲטָן): at times female (לְזִמְנִין נוּקְבֵי), at times male (לְזִמְנִין גּוּבְרֵי), at times spirits (לְזִמְנִין רוּחִין), at times holy watchers (לְזִמְנִין עִירִין קַדִּישִׁין). What is the reason (מַאי טַעְמָא), because when this living being was included within the primordial living being (בְּגִין דְּכַד אִתְכְּלִיל הַאי חֵיוָתָא בְּחֵיוָתָא קַדְמָאָה), from the midst of the force of their mutual inclusion one within the other (מִגּוֹ תְּקִיפוּ דְּאִתְכְּלִילָן דָּא בְּדָא), there emerges one blazing spark constantly (נָפְקָא חַד נִצּוֹצָא מְלַהֲטָא תָּדִיר), which is never extinguished forever (דְּלָא אִתְדְּעַךְ לְעָלְמִין), and it goes forth and travels behind those two sparks (וְשָׁאטָא וְאָזְלָא אֲבַתְרַיְיהוּ דְּאִינוּן תְּרֵין נִצּוֹצִין).
