Daf 125b (דַּף קכ״ה ע״ב)

Come and see (תָּא חֲזֵי), if the woman is found meritorious (אִי אִשְׁתְּכָחַת זַכְּיָּיתָא), these waters enter into her (אִלֵּין מַיִין עָאלִין בְּגַוָּוהּ), and they are transformed into sweetness (וְאִתְהַפְּכָן מְתִיקָן), and they purify her body (וְנָקָאן גַּרְמָהּ), and they remain within her (וְקַיְּימִין בְּגַוָּוהּ), until she conceives (עַד דְּמִתְעַבְּרָא). Once she conceives (כֵּיוָן דְּמִתְעַבְּרָא), they improve and beautify the form of the fetus in her womb (הֲווֹ מְשַׁפְּרֵי בְּשַׁפִּירֵי לְעוּבָּרָא דִּמְעָהָא), and a beautiful child emerges (וְנָפִיק בְּרָא שַׁפִּירָא), clean, without blemish of the world (נָקִי בְּלָא מוּמָא דְּעָלְמָא). But if not (וְאִי לָאו), those waters enter into her (אִינּוּן מַיִין עַיְּילִין בְּגַוָּוהּ), and the stench of impurity spreads (וְאָרְחָא רֵיחָא דְּזוּהֲמָא), and those waters turn into a serpent in her innards (וְאִינּוּן מַיִין מִתְהַפְּכִין לְחִיוְיָא בִּמְעָהָא), according to that through which she became corrupted (בְּמָה דְּקִלְקְלָה אִתְפְּסַת), and it is revealed as shame to all (וְאִתְחַזֵּי קְלָנָא לְכֹלָּא), and this has been established by the friends (וְהָא אוּקְמוּהָ חַבְרַיָּיא).

Come and see (תָּא חֲזֵי), all the women of the world (כָּל אִינּוּן נְשֵׁי עָלְמָא), in their places they stand and are judged (בְּאַתְרַיְיהוּ קַיְּימֵי וְאִתְדָּנוּ), and therefore, that very place where they stand (וְעַל דָּא הַהוּא אֲתָר מַמָּשׁ דְּאִינְהוּ קַיְּימֵי), in it they are judged (בֵּיהּ אִתְדָּנוּ). Blessed is the portion of Yisrael (זַכָּאָה חוּלָקֵיהוֹן דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל), for Kudsha Berikh Hu is pleased with them (דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אִתְרְעֵי בְּהוּ), and desires to purify them (וּבָעֵי לְדַכְּאָה לְהוּ).

Rabbi Chizkiyah opened (רִבִּי חִזְקִיָּה פָּתַח), “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine” (אֶשְׁתְּךָ כְּגֶפֶן פוֹרִיָּה) etc. (תהלים קכח). Just as the vine accepts only from itself (מַה גֶּפֶן לָא מְקַבֵּל עָלֵיהּ אֶלָּא מִדִּידֵיהּ), so too the woman of Yisrael (כַּךְ אִתְּתָא דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל), stands in this manner (קַיְּימָא בְּהַאי גַּוְונָא), that she does not receive upon herself except from her mate (דְּלָא מְקַבְּלָא עָלָהּ אֶלָּא הַהוּא בַּר זוּגָהּ). Like the turtledove (shapnina) (כְּשַׁפְּנִינָא), Some say: like the ox (נ״א כְּתוֹרָא דָּא), which receives only from its designated mate (דְּלָא מְקַבְּלָא אֶלָּא הַהוּא בַּר זוּגָהּ). And for this: “like a fruitful vine in the inner chambers of your house” (וְעַל דָּא: כְּגֶפֶן פוֹרִיָּה בְּיַרְכְּתֵי בֵיתֶךָ). What is fruitful (מַהוּ פוֹרִיָּה)? As it is said (כְּמָה דְּאַתְּ אָמֵר): “bearing poisonous fruit” (דְּבָרִים כט פּוֹרֶה רֹאשׁ), fruitful means blossoming (פּוֹרִיָּה: פּוֹרַחַת), that sends out branches in every direction (דְּאַפִּיקַת עֲנָפִים לְכָל סִטְרָא). And where? (וְאָן) “In the inner chambers of your house” (בְּיַרְכְּתֵי בֵיתֶךָ), and not outside in the marketplace (וְלָאו לְבַר בְּשׁוּקָא), in order that she not come to lie in the Supernal Covenant (בְּגִין דְּלָא תֵּיתֵי לְשַׁקְּרָא בִּבְרִית עִלָּאָה). And Shlomo said (וּשְׁלֹמֹה אָמַר), “She who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her Elohim” (הָעוֹזֶבֶת אַלּוּף נְעוּרֶיהָ וְאֶת בְּרִית אֱלֹהֶיהָ שָׁכֵחָה) (Mishlei 2). What is “the covenant of her Elohim”? (מַאן בְּרִית אֱלֹהֶיהָ). That is the place that is called Berit (הַהוּא אֲתָר דְּאִקְרֵי בְּרִית). And she is bound to it (וְהִיא אִתְקַשְּׁרָא בֵּיהּ), and because of that - “in the inner chambers of your house” (וּבְגִין כַּךְ בְּיַרְכְּתֵי בֵיתֶךָ).

Rabbi Chizkiyah said (אָמַר רִבִּי חִזְקִיָּה), woe comes upon that man (תּוּנְבָא לֵיתֵי עַל הַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ), who leaves his wife (דְּשָׁבַק לְאִנְתְּתֵיהּ) who reveals the hair of her head to the outside (דְּתִתְחַזֵּי מִשְׂעֲרָא דְּרֵישָׁה לְבַר). For this is one of the private modesties of the home (וְדָא הוּא חַד מֵאִינּוּן צְנִיעוּתָא דְּבֵיתָה). And a woman who brings out the hair of her head to the outside (וְאִתְּתָא דַּאֲפִיקַת מִשְׂעֲרָא דְּרֵישָׁה לְבַר), to adorn herself with it (לְאִתְתַּקְּנָא בֵּיהּ), causes poverty in the home (גָּרִים מִסְכְּנוּתָא לְבֵיתָא), and causes her children not to be considered in the generation (וְגָרִים לִבְנָהָא דְּלָא יִתְחַשְּׁבוּן בְּדָרָא), and causes another thing that dwells in the house (וְגָרִים מִלָּה אַחֲרָא דְּשַׁרְיָא בְּבֵיתָא). Who causes this? (מַאן גָּרִים דָּא). That hair that is seen from her head on the outside (הַהוּא שַׂעֲרָא דְּאִתְחֲזֵי מֵרֵישָׁהּ לְבַר). And if this is so in the house (וּמַה בְּבֵיתָא הַאי), all the more so in the marketplace (כָּל שֶׁכֵּן בְּשׁוּקָא), and all the more so regarding other brazenness (וְכָל שֶׁכֵּן חֲצִיפוּתָא אַחֲרָא). And for this it says: “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the inner chambers of your house” (וּבְגִין כָּךְ אֶשְׁתְּךָ כְּגֶפֶן פּוֹרִיָּה בְּיַרְכְּתֵי בֵיתֶךָ).
