“And the angel of Hashem stood…” Rabbi Abba said: How much we must contemplate the words of Orayta (אָמַר רִבִּי אַבָּא כַּמָּה אִית לָן לְאִסְתַּכְּלָא בְּמִלֵּי דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא), these verses are hints of supernal wisdom (הָנֵי קְרָאֵי רְמִיזֵי בְּחָכְמְתָא עִלָּאָה). For did this angel go out for nothing, to be revealed to a single she-ass? Or to stand between the vineyards to oppose her, here and there? Rather, all is a supernal secret (אֶלָּא כֹּלָּא רָזָא עִלָּאָה הוּא), and Kudsha Berikh Hu desires all of it to protect Yisrael (וְכֹלָּא בָּעֵי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בְּגִין לְאַגָּנָא עָלַיְיהוּ דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל), and that harmful forces should not have dominion over them (וְלָא יִשְׁלְטוּ בְּהוּ זִינִין בִּישִׁין), because they are the portion of Kudsha Berikh Hu (בְּגִין דְּאִינּוּן חוּלָקֵיהּ דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא).

“And the angel of Hashem stood…” It was taught: From the side of Imma, when She is crowned (תָּאנָא מִסִּטְרָא דְּאִמָּא כַּד אִיהִי מִתְעַטְּרָא), there issue from Her crown one thousand and five hundred engraved sides in Her adornment (נָפְקִין בְּעִטְרָהָא אֶלֶף וַחֲמֵשׁ מְאָה סִטְרֵי גְּלִיפִין בְּתַכְשִׁיטָהָא). And when She comes to unite with the King She is crowned with a single crown of four colors These colors blaze into the four directions of the world (אִינּוּן גְּוָנִין מִתְלַהֲטָן בְּאַרְבַּע סִטְרֵי עָלְמָא), and each color blazes three times in its direction (כָּל גְּוָנָא וּגְוָנָא מִתְלַהֲטָא תְּלַת זִמְנִין בְּהַהוּא סִטְרָא). These are twelve engraved domains (דְּאִינּוּן תְּרֵיסָר תְּחוּמֵי גְּלִיפִין), and they ascend and are included within twelve others (וְעָאלִין וְאִתְכְּלִילוּ בִּתְרֵיסַר אַחֲרָנִין).

At the head of the crown, there are four towers to the four directions (בְּרֵישָׁא דְּעַטָּרָא אִית ד׳ שׁוּרִין לְד׳ סִטְרִין), and these are fortresses, as it is said: “Towers of perfume” (וְאִינּוּן מִגְדָּלוֹת כְּמָה דְּאַתְּ אָמֵר מִגְדְּלוֹת מֶרְקָחִים) (Song of Songs 5). What are “perfumes”? As it is said: “Of all the powder of the merchant” (מַהוּ מֶרְקָחִים כְּמָה דְּאַתְּ אָמֵר מִכָּל אַבְקַת רוֹכֵל) (Song of Songs 3). And upon each and every tower, there are three openings (וְעַל כָּל מַגְדְּלָא וּמַגְדְּלָא ג׳ פִּתְחִין), fixed with precious stones (קְבִיעִין בְּאַבְנִין טָבָן), from every side and direction (מִכָּל סִטְרָא וְסִטְרָא). That crown is radiant (הַאי עֲטָרָא נְהִירָא), Some say: pure (ס״א: טָהִירָא), Some say: concealed (ס״א: טְמִירָא), with the skipping brilliance of Ophir (בְּדִלּוּגִין דְּאוֹפִיר), for the honor of the King (בְּגִין יְקָרָא דְּמַלְכָּא), as it is written: “I will make a man more precious than fine gold…”

Beneath the crown hang golden bells all around it (תְּחוֹת עֲטָרָא תַּלְיָין זָגֵי דְּדַהֲבָא בְּסָחֲרָנָהָא), a golden bell on this side, and a golden bell on that side (זָגָא דְּדַהֲבָא מִסִּטְרָא דָּא וְזָגָא דְּדַהֲבָא מִסִּטְרָא דָּא), and one pomegranate (וְחַד רִמּוֹנָא). Some say: within it (ס״א: בְּגוֹ). In the likeness of that pomegranate, there are a thousand bells (כְּגָוַן הַהוּא רִמּוֹנָא אִית בָּהּ אֶלֶף זָגִין), and each bell among them flares in red and white (וְכָל זָגָא מִנַּיְיהוּ מִתְלַהֲטָא בְּסוּמָקָא בְּחִוָּרָא). That pomegranate is divided into four sections (הַהוּא רִמּוֹנָא אִתְפְּלַג בְּפִלּוּגִין אַרְבַּע), and an opening is set to reveal its bells (וְקַיְּימָא פְּתִיחָא לְאִתְחֲזָאָה זָגָהָא). Three hundred and twenty-five bells are on this side (תְּלַת מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִין וַחֲמֵשׁ זָגִין לְסִטְרָא דָּא), and likewise on each and every side (וְכֵן לְכָל סִטְרָא וְסִטְרָא), until the four directions of the world blaze (עַד דְּמִתְלַהֲטָן אַרְבַּע סִטְרֵי עָלְמָא), from the vision of each sector (מֵחֵיזוּ דְּכָל פִּלְכָּא וּפִלְכָּא), and these are called “the sector of the pomegranate” (וְאִינּוּן אִקְרוּן פֶּלַח הָרִמּוֹן), as it is written: “As the slice of a pomegranate is your temple behind your veil” (כְּמָה דִּכְתִּיב כְּפֶלַח הָרִמּוֹן רַקָּתֵךְ מִבַּעַד לְצַמָּתֵךְ) (Song of Songs 4).

Four wheels at the four corners of the sectors (אַרְבַּע גַּלְגַּלִּין בִּפִלְכֵי אַרְבַּע זָוְיָין) rotate around that crown (נַטְלִין בְּגִלְגֻּלָּא לְהַהוּא עֲטָרָא), and when they rotate it, they rise upward (וְכַד נַטְלֵי לָהּ אִזְדַּקְּפָן לְעֵילָּא), until they reach the revolution of the upper sector (עַד דְּמָטוּ לְגִלְגֻּלָּא דְּפִלְכָּא עִלָּאָה), which shines day and night (דְּנָהִים יְמָמָא וְלֵילְיָא). All those sectors unite and raise the crown and lift it And the voice of those wheels is heard throughout all the firmaments At the voice of sweet melody, all the hosts of heaven tremble (לְקַל נְעִימוּתָא מִתְרַעֲשִׁין כָּל חֵילֵי שְׁמַיָּא), and they all ask one another (וְכֻלְּהוּ שָׁאֲלִין דָּא לְדָא), until all say: “Blessed be the glory of Hashem from His place” (עַד דְּכֻלְּהוּ אַמְרֵי בָּרוּךְ כְּבוֹד יְיָ מִמְּקוֹמוֹ) (Ezekiel 3).

When the King unites with the Matronita, this crown ascends and rests on the head of the Matronita Then a supernal crown descends (כְּדֵין נָחִית חַד עֲטָרָא עִלָּאָה), fixed with all kinds of precious stones (קְבִיעָא דְּכָל אֶבֶן טָבָא), and in its circuit, radiance and roses (וְחֵיזוּר וְשׁוּשָׁן בְּסָחֲרָנָהָא). It comes with six wheels, for the six directions of the world (בְּשִׁית גַּלְגַּלִּין אַתְיָא לְשִׁית סִטְרִין דְּעָלְמָא), six wings of the eagle bear it (שִׁית גַּדְפִּין דְּנֶשֶׁר נַטְלִין לָהּ). In its sector are fifty grapes around it (בְּפִלְכוֹי חֲמְשִׁין עֲנָבִין סָחֲרָנָהָא), Some say: fifty sectors (ס״א: פִּלְכִין), in which are engraved Imma Ila’ah (דְּגָלִיף בָּהּ אִמָּא עִלָּאָה). They are set in precious stones—white, red, green, black, blue, and purple (קְבִיעָאן בְּאֶבֶן טָבָא חִוָּור וְסוּמָק יָרוֹק וְאוּכָם תְּכֵלָא וְאַרְגְּוָנָא), six hundred and thirteen rays to each and every side (שִׁית מְאָה וּתְלַת עֲשַׂר זִיוּוּיִין לְכָל סִטְרָא וְסִטְרָא).

One thousand and six hundred towers on each and every side (אֶלֶף וְשִׁית מְאָה מִגְדָּלִין לְכָל סִטְרָא וְסִטְרָא), and each and every tower is established as a mountain (וְכָל מַגְדְּלָא וּמַגְדְּלָא טוּרִין קְבִיעִין). They soar upward and are absorbed in the canopy (Some say: in the platform) of Imma Ila’ah, by the anointing oil of Her greatness Then Imma, in whisper, draws forth supernal gifts (כְּדֵין אִמָּא בִּלְחִישׁוּ נָגִיד מַתְּנָן עִלָּאִין), and sends and fixes them in that crown (וְשָׁדַר וְקָבַע לוֹן בְּהַהוּא עֲטָרָא). Afterwards, the streams of the holy anointing flow upon the head of the King And from His head, that good, supernal anointing oil descends (וּמֵרֵאשֵׁיהּ נָחִית הַהוּא מִשְׁחָא טָבָא עִלָּאָה) upon His precious beard (עַל דִּיקְנֵיהּ יַקִּירָא), and from there flows over the garments of the King (וּמִתַּמָּן נָגִיד עַל אִינּוּן לְבוּשֵׁי מַלְכָּא). This is what is written: “Like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard…”

Afterwards the crown returns, and Imma Ilaa crowns Him with that crown (לְבָתַר אִתְהַדָּר עֲטָרָא וּמְעַטְּרָא לֵיהּ אִמָּא עִלָּאָה בְּהַהוּא עֲטָרָא), and spreads over Him and over the Matronita garments of glory with that crown (וּפְרִישָׂא עָלֵיהּ וְעַל מַטְרוֹנִיתָא לְבוּשֵׁי יְקָר בְּהַהוּא עֲטָרָא). Then a voice is heard throughout all the worlds (כְּדֵין קָלָא אִשְׁתְּמַע בְּכֻלְּהוּ עָלְמִין): “Go forth and see…” Then joy is among all those who are sons of the King And who are they? All those who come from the sides of Yisrael For it is not permitted to be united with them nor to stand among them except Yisrael (דְּהָא לָא מִזְדַּוְּוגֵי בְּהוּ וְלָא קַיְּימִין עִמְּהוֹן בַּר אִינּוּן יִשְׂרָאֵל), for they are the sons of the House and serve them (דְּאִינּוּן בְּנֵי בֵיתָא וּמְשַׁמְּשֵׁי לְהוֹן). Then the blessing that comes forth from them is Yisrael’s
