And further, he does not permit the accuser to teach upon him guilt or blemish That a human being should hasten and say, and not give place to another to say Then Kudsha Berikh Hu forgives him (כְּדֵין קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא מָחִיל לֵיהּ), this is what is written: “But he who confesses and forsakes shall find mercy” (Proverbs 28) (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, וּמוֹדֶה וְעוֹזֵב יְרוּחָם).
On the days of Rosh HaShanah, the court arranges the throne for the King, to judge all the world And Yisrael enter first into judgment before Him, to increase mercy Some say: before Him to increase wrath It is taught: “And the judgment of His people Yisrael is each day” (I Kings 8) (תְּנָן וּמִשְׁפַּט עַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל דְּבַר יוֹם בְּיוֹמוֹ), each day-what is that (יוֹם בְּיוֹמוֹ מַאי הוּא)? Rather, these are the two days of Rosh HaShanah Why two days (אֲמַאי תְּרֵי יוֹמִין)? Because they are two courts, joined as one The higher judgment, which is severe (דִּינָא עִלָּאָה, דְּאִיהוּ קַשְׁיָא), with the lower judgment, which is lenient (בְּדִינָא תַּתָּאָה, דְּאִיהוּ רַפְיָא), and both are found together (וְתַרְוַויְיהוּ מִשְׁתַּכְחֵי).
And on this account, those Babylonians do not know the mystery of sobbing and wailing (וְעַל דָּא לָא יַדְעֵי הָנֵי בַּבְלָאֵי, רָזָא דִּיבָבָא וִילָלוּתָא), and do not know that both are necessary (וְלָא יַדְעֵי דְּתַרְוַויְיהוּ אִצְטְרִיכוּ): wailing, which is harsh judgment (יְלָלוּתָא דְּאִיהוּ דִּינָא תַּקִּיפָא); three sobbings, which is lenient judgment (תְּלַת תְּבִירִין דְּאִיהוּ דִּינָא רַפְיָא); groaning, he groans softly (גְּנוּחֵי גָּנַח רַפְיָא). They do not know, and they perform both But we know, and we perform both Some say: And on this account, the mystery of sobbing and wailing, and both are necessary. These Babylonians, they do not know, and they perform both And all goes forth in the way of truth
He opened and said: “Blow the shofar at the new moon, at the concealed time for our festival day” (Psalms 81) “Blow the shofar at the new moon”-what is “at the new moon” (תִּקְעוּ בַחֹדֶשׁ שׁוֹפָר, מַאי בַחֹדֶשׁ)? This is the lenient judgment, which is called “month” (דָּא בֵּי דִּינָא רַפְיָא, דְּאִקְרֵי חֹדֶשׁ). “At the concealed time”: concealment of the upper world, concealment of the ה׳ which is the fear of Yitzchak, which is concealment for the higher King (בַּכֶּסֶה: כּ״ס דְּעָלְמָא עִלָּאָה, כּ״ס ה׳ דָּא פַּחַד יִצְחָק דָּאִיהוּ כּ״ס לְמַלְכָּא עִלָּאָה).
Further, “at the concealed time”-this is the severe judgment, the fear of Yitzchak (תוּ בַּכֶּסֶה, דָּא דִּינָא קַשְׁיָא, פַּחַד יִצְחָק), the judgment that is constantly concealed, that is not judgment revealed (דִּינָא דְּאִתְכַּסְיָיא תָּדִיר, דְּלָאו אִיהוּ דִּינָא בְּאִתְגַּלְיָיא). “For it is a statute”-this is the lenient judgment “And a judgment”-this is the severe judgment This is judgment with mercy And both are as one Therefore, two days, and both are in one mystery “Happy is the people that know the teru‘ah” (Psalms 89)
It is not written “that hear,” or “that blow the teru‘ah,” but “that know the teru‘ah” (לָא כְּתִיב שֹׁמְעֵי, אוֹ תּוֹקְעֵי תְרוּעָה, אֶלָּא יוֹדְעֵי תְרוּעָה). Because (or some say: such as) the wise who dwell in the atmosphere of the Holy Land, they are those who know the teru‘ah The mystery of teru‘ah, as it is written: “You shall break them with a rod of iron” (Psalms 2) Who is like the nation of Yisrael, who know supernal mysteries of their Master, to enter before Him, and to be bound in Him And all those who know the mystery of teru‘ah shall be brought to go in the light of the Face of Kudsha Berikh Hu And this is the primordial light that Kudsha Berikh Hu stored away for the Righteous And therefore, it is necessary to know it It is written: “The remainder from the liver” (Leviticus 9) And it is written: “And the remainder upon the liver” (Leviticus 3) After she has committed adultery, she ascends upon him
“The remainder from the liver”-this is the wife of harlotries (יוֹתֶרֶת מִן הַכָּבֵד, דָּא אֵשֶׁת זְנוּנִים), who goes forth from the liver to seduce the children of the world and to accuse them (דְּאַזְלָא וְנָפְקָא מִן הַכָּבֵד, לְאַסְטָאָה בְּנֵי עָלְמָא, וּלְאַסְטְנָא עֲלַיְיהוּ). And she leaves her male, to commit harlotries And because of this, “the remainder from the liver, the remainder upon the liver” (וּבְגִין דָּא הַיּוֹתֶרֶת מִן הַכָּבֵד, יוֹתֶרֶת עַל הַכָּבֵד). After she has committed adultery, she ascends upon him The forehead of a harlot woman-she overpowers her husband, who is the liver, with the bitterness of gall, a wife of strife and anger, who rules over her male The forehead of a harlot woman rules over the liver, a wife of strife and anger “The remainder from the liver”-from the liver she goes out to defile the whole world and to commit adulteries with all
Afterward she ascends to her male-the forehead of a harlot woman, with brazenness of face, and then she is upon the liver And furthermore, “the remainder from the liver” is called from the Other Side; after she goes out to commit adultery with all, she gives leftovers to her husband, and this is “the remainder from the liver” (וְעוֹד, יוֹתֶרֶת מִן הַכָּבֵד אִתְקְרִיאַת מִסִּטְרָא אַחֲרָא, בָּתַר דְּנָפְקַת לְנַאֲפָא עִם כֹּלָּא, יְהִיבַת שִׁיּוּרִין לְבַעְלָהּ, וְהַאי אִיהִי יוֹתֶרֶת מִן הַכָּבֵד). From the liver, and from its remainder, gall goes forth, and it is the sword of the Angel of Death, from which bitter drops emerge to kill the sons of man This is what is written: “Her end is bitter as wormwood” (Proverbs 5) And she is suspended in the liver, and all illnesses and death are dependent upon it
And on that day of Rosh HaShanah she roams in the world to gather all the sins of the world And then all the limbs that are Yisrael, which are the limbs of the Matronita, cry out: “The lamp of Hashem is the soul of man” (Proverbs 20) And then all Yisrael cry out, and they take the shofar to awaken in it the tekiah, shevarim, and teru‘ah
