Daf 109b (דַּף ק״ט ע״ב)

With what? With his schemes (וּבְמָּה, בְּתַחְבּוּלוֹתָיו), he makes strategies and turns circuits (עָבִיד תַּחְבּוּלִין וּמְסַבֵּב סִבּוּבִין) to overturn them (לַאֲפָכָא לוֹן), and not like the earlier ones (וְלָאו כְּאִנּוּן קַדְמָאֵי). “To perform them” (לְפָעֳלָם)-for the sake of the deeds of human beings (בְּגִין פָּעֳלָם דִּבְנֵי נָשָׁא), according to how they act, so He turns them (כְּמָה דְּאִנּוּן עָבְדִין עוֹבָדִין, הָכִי מְהַפֵּךְ לוֹן). “Whatever He commands them upon the face of the world” (כֹּל אֲשֶׁר יְצַוֵּם עַל פְּנֵי תֵבֵל אָרְצָה) (Job 37:12). Because of the deeds of human beings, He turns those circuits (בְּגִין דְּעוֹבָדִין דִּבְנֵי נָשָׁא מְהַפֵּךְ לְאִנּוּן מְסִבּוֹת), in everything that He commands them upon the face of the world, etc. (בְּכָל מַה דְּאִיהוּ פַּקִּיד לוֹן עַל פְּנֵי תֵבֵל וְגו׳).

Rabbi El'azar said (רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר אָמַר): “And He turns around in His circuits” (וְהוּא מְסִבּוֹת מִתְהַפֵּךְ) (Job 37:12). The Holy One Blessed Be He (הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא) turns the circuits and brings about deeds in the world to be established (מְסַבֵּב סִבּוּבִין וְאַיְיתֵי עוֹבָדִין בְּעָלְמָא לְאִתְקָיְימָא). And after people think that those deeds will indeed be established (וּלְבָתַר דְּחֲשִׁיבוּ בְּנֵי נָשָׁא דְּיִתְקָיְימוּן אִנּוּן עוֹבָדִין), Kudsha Berikh Hu turns them back to what they were originally (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא מְהַפֵּךְ לוֹן לְאִנּוּן עוֹבָדִין מִכְּמָה דְּהֲווּ בְּקַדְמִיתָא). “With His devices” (בְּתַחְבּוּלוֹתָיו) - in His scheme it is written (בְּתַחְבּוּלָתוֹ כְּתִיב), like this artisan who makes vessels of clay (כְּהַאי אוֹמָנָא דְּעָבִיד מָאנִין דְּחַרְסָא). While that lump of clay is still moist before him (בְּעוֹד דְּהַהִיא טִיקְלָא אִסְתַּחֲרַת קַמֵיהּ), he considers making it in this form-he makes it (חָשִׁיב לְמֶעְבַּד כְּגַוְונָא דָּא עָבִיד), he considers making it in another form-he makes it (חָשִׁיב לְמֶעְבַּד כְּגַוְונָא אָחֳרָא עָבִיד). He turns this vessel into that vessel (מְהַפֵּךְ מָאנָא דָּא לְמָאנָא דָא), because that lump of clay is still moist before him (בְּגִין דְּהַהוּא טִיקְלָא אִסְתַּחֲרַת קַמֵּיהּ). So too, Kudsha Berikh Hu turns the deeds that He does (כָּךְ קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא מְהַפֵּךְ עוֹבָדוֹי דְּאִיהוּ עָבִיד).
