Daf 97b (דַּף צ״ז ע״ב)

“The time of singing has arrived” (עֵת הַזָּמִיר הִגִּיעַ)-this refers to the preparation of the praise-offering to sing before Kudsha Berikh Hu (דְּאִתְתַּקַּן תִּקּוּנָא דְּתוּשְׁבְּחָן לְזַמְּרָא קַמֵּי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), something that was not found before the creation of Adam (מַה דְּלָא אִשְׁתְּכַח עַד לָא אִתְבְּרֵי אָדָם). “And the voice of the turtledove was heard in our land” (וְקוֹל הַתּוֹר נִשְׁמַע בְּאַרְצֵנוּ)-this refers (דְּהָא…)-Some say: this (ד״א: דָּא), Some say: this entire phrase (ד״א: ל״ג כָּל מִלָּה)-to the act of Kudsha Berikh Hu (דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא דָּעֲבֵד), which was not found in the world until Adam was created (דְּלָא אִשְׁתְּכַח בְּעָלְמָא עַד דְּאִתְבְּרֵי אָדָם). Once Adam was found (כֵּיוָן דְּאִשְׁתְּכַח אָדָם), everything was found (כּוֹלָּא אִשְׁתְּכַח). After he sinned (בָּתַר דְּחָטָא), everything withdrew from the world (כּוֹלָּא אִסְתַּלַּק מֵעָלְמָא), and the earth was cursed (וְאִתְלַטְיָא אַרְעָא). This is what is written: “Cursed is the ground because of you…” (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב אָרוּרָה הָאֲדָמָה בַּעֲבוּרֶךָ וְגו׳). And it is written: “When you till the ground, it shall not continue to give its strength to you…” (וּכְתִיב: כִּי תַעֲבֹד אֶת הָאֲדָמָה לֹא תֹסֵף תֵּת כֹּחָהּ לָךְ וְגו׳). And it is written: “And thorns and thistles it shall bring forth to you” (וּכְתִיב: וְקוֹץ וְדַרְדַּר תַּצְמִיחַ לָךְ).

Noach came and prepared axes and tools for working the earth (אֲתָא נֹחַ וְתִקֵּן קַרְדֻּמִין וּפְצִירֵי בְּעָלְמָא). But afterwards, “he drank of the wine, became drunk, and uncovered himself within his tent” (וּלְבָתַר: וַיֵּשְׁתְּ מִן הַיַּיִן וַיִּשְׁכָּר וַיִּתְגַּל בְּתוֹךְ אָהֳלֹה). The people of the world came and sinned before Kudsha Berikh Hu (אָתוּ בְּנֵי עָלְמָא וְחָבוּ קַמֵּיהּ דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא). And the earthly forces withdrew as before (וְאִסְתַּלְּקוּ חֵילִין דְּאַרְעָא דְּעַלְמָא כְּמִלְּקַדְּמִין), and they remained so until Avraham came (וְהֲווּ קָיְימֵי עַד דְּאָתָא אַבְרָהָם). Once Avraham came into the world (כֵיוָן דְּאָתָא אַבְרָהָם לְעָלְמָא), immediately: “The blossoms appeared in the land” (מִיָּד: הַנִּצָּנִים נִרְאוּ בָאָרֶץ), all forces were prepared and revealed in the earth (אִתְתַּקָּנוּ וְאִתְגָּלוּ כָּל חֵילִין בְּאַרְעָא). “The time of singing has arrived” (עֵת הַזָּמִיר הִגִּיעַ)-at the time when Kudsha Berikh Hu said that the decree should be sealed (בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּאָמַר לֵיהּ קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא דְּיִתְגְּזַר), once that moment of the covenant came (כֵיוָן דְּמָטָא הַהוּא זִמְנָא דִּבְרִית), it was found in Avraham and sealed (אִשְׁתְּכַח בֵּיהּ בְּאַבְרָהָם וְאִתְגְּזַר). Then this entire verse was fulfilled in him (כְּדֵין אִתְקַיֵּים בֵּיהּ כָּל הַאי קְרָא), and the world was sustained (וְאִתְקַיֵּים עָלְמָא), and the word of Kudsha Berikh Hu was revealed through him (וּמִלָּה דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא הֲוָה בְּאִתְגַּלְּיָיא בֵּיהּ)-this is what is written: “And Hashem appeared to him” (הֲדָא הוּא דִּכְתִיב: וַיֵּרָא אֵלָיו יְיָ) (Bereshit 18).
