Ya'akov descended to her (יַעֲקֹב נָחַתּ לְגַבָּהּ), and went to her place (וְאֲזַל לְאַתְּרָהּ). As it is said: “And he went to Ḥaran” (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: וַיֵּלֶךְ חָרָנָה), and he saw all the adornments of the house (וְחָמָא כָּל תִּקּוּן בֵּיתָּא), and was saved from her (וְאִשְׁתְּזִיב מִינָהּ). Her male is Samael (דְּכוּרָא דִילָהּ סַמְאֵָל), who sought to approach him (אַבְאִישׁ קַמֵּיהּ), and descended to attack him in battle (וְנָחַתּ לְאֲגָחָא בֵּיהּ קְרָבָא), but was not able to overcome him, as it is written: “And a man wrestled with him…” Then he was saved from everything (כְּדֵין אִשְׁתְּזִיב מִכּלָּא), and completed in wholeness (וְאִשְׁתְּלִים בִּשְׁלִימוּ), and ascended to a complete level and was called Yisrael (וְאִסְתַּלַּק בְּדַרְגָּא שְׁלִים וְאִתְּקְּרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל). Then he ascended to the supernal level (כְּדֵין סָלִיק בְּדַרְגָּא עִלָּאָה), and was completed in all (וְאִשְׁתְּלִים בְּכלָּא), and was the middle pillar (וְהֲוָה עַמּוּדָא דְאֶמְצָּעִיתָּא), and upon him it is written: “And the middle bar…” What is “he touched the hollow of his thigh”? (Bereshit 32) (מַהוּ: וַיִּגַּע בְּכַף יְרֵכוֹ), he was not able to harm him, but he touched the hollow of his thigh - meaning Nadav and Avihu, who came from the thigh of Aharon (לֵיהּ לָא יָכִיל, אֲבָל נָגַע בְּכַף יְרֵכוֹ, דְּאִינְהוּ נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא, דְּנָפְּקוּ מִן יַרְכוֹ דְאַהֲרֹן), Some say: through the sin of strange fire. And it is said: “to guard you from a strange woman”… and she seized them within her domain. Come and see what is written about the complete Ya'akov וְהָא אִתְעָרוּ לְשָׁמְרָךְ מֵאִשָּׁה זָרָה וְגו׳, וְתָפְסָה לוֹן בִּרְשׁוּתְהָא, תָּא חֲזֵי, מַה כְּתִיב בְּיַעֲקֹב שְׁלִימָא), and about Ya'akov it is written: “And the middle bar in the midst of the boards, shall reach from end to end” (Exodus 26) (וְעַל יַעֲקֹב כְּתִיב: וְהַבְּרִיחַ הַתִּיכוֹן בְּתוֹךְ הַקְּרָשִׁים מַבְרִיחַ מִן הַקָּצֶּה אֶל הַקָּצֶּה).

Rabbi El'azar said (רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר אָמַר): Tiferet Yisrael took everything (תִּפְאֶרֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל נָטִיל כֹּלָּא), and when Kenesset Yisrael was drawn up above, she too took all (וְכַד אִתְמַשְּׁכָא כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְעֵילָא, נָטְלָא אוּף הָכִי כֹּלָּא), the masculine world of Kudsha Berikh Hu (עַלְמָא דִּדְכוּרָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and likewise the world of the feminine of Kudsha Berikh Hu (וְכֵן עַלְמָא דְּנוּקְבָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), as all lights go forth from that world (כְּמָה דְּנָפְקֵי כָּל נְהוֹרִין מֵהַאי עַלְמָא), so too that world takes all (הָכִי נָמֵי נָטִיל כֹּלָּא הַאי עַלְמָא). For this is like that (דְּהָא דָּא כְּגַוְונָא דָּא), and because of this: Be’er Sheva, this is Jubilee (וּבְגִין כָּךְ בְּאֵר שֶׁבַע דָּא יוֹבְלָא), Be’er Sheva - this is Shemittah (בְּאֵר שֶׁבַע דָּא אִיהִי שְׁמִטָּה), for this is like that (דְּהָא דָּא כְּגַוְונָא דָּא), all is to Kudsha Berikh Hu (כֻּלָּא לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and the sun does not shine except from Jubilee (וְשִׁמְשָׁא דָא לָא נָהִיר אֶלָּא מִיּוֹבְלָא), Some say: and he took all the lights and gave them into Shemittah And because of this it is written (Bereshit 28): “And Ya'akov went out from Be’er Sheva and went to Ḥaran” (וּבְגִין כָּךְ: וַיֵּצֵא יַעֲקֹב מִבְּאֵר שֶׁבַע וַיֵּלֶךְ חָרָנָה), this is the west, which is Shemittah (דָּא מַעֲרָב דְּאִיהִי שְׁמִטָּה).

Rabbi Shim‘on said (רִבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אָמַר): “And Ya'akov went out from Be’er Sheva” - this is the west, the year of Shemittah (וַיֵּצֵא יַעֲקֹב מִבְּאֵר שֶׁבַע, דָּא מַעֲרָב, שְׁנַת הַשְׁמִטָּה). “And he went to Ḥaran” - this is the year of Orlah (וַיֵּלֶךְ חָרָנָה, דָּא שְׁנַת עָרְלָה), because he departed from the sacred domain to another domain (בְּגִין דְּנָפַק מֵרְשׁוּ קַדִּישָׁא לִרְשׁוּ אָחֳרָא), that had been emptied of its interior (דְּהֲוָה עָרִיק מֵאֲחוּי), as it is said (כְּמָה דְּאִתְּמָר). And when he arrived at Beit El, which is the sacred domain (וְכַד מָטָא לְבֵית אֵל, דְּאִיהוּ בִּרְשׁוּ קַדִּישָׁא), what is written? “And he encountered the place” (Bereshit 28)
