Rabbi Yehudah said (רִבִּי יְהוּדָה אָמַר): Until the day the Shekhinta returns with Israel from exile to that place (עַד יוֹמָא דְּתֵהְדַר שְׁכִינְתָּא בְּגָלוּתְהוֹן דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל בְּהַהוּא אֲתַר), as it says (כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר), (Jeremiah 31), "And there is hope for your future, says Hashem, and your children will return to their border" (וְיֵשׁ תִּקְוָה לְאַחֲרִיתֵךְ נְאֻם יְיָ וְשָׁבוּ בָנִים לִגְבוּלָם). And this is the assurance Kudsha Berikh Hu gives her Israel, when they return from exile, will stand by Rachel's grave and weep there (וּזְמִינִין יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּד יְתוּבוּן מִן גָּלוּתָא, לְקָיְימָא עַל הַהִיא קְבוּרָה דְרָחֵל וּלְמִבְכֵּי תַּמָּן), just as she wept over Israel's exile (כְּמָה דְאִיהִי בָּכַאת עַל גָּלוּתְהוֹן דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל).

Thus it is written (וְעַל דָּא כְּתִיב), (Jeremiah 31), "With weeping they will come, and with pleas I will lead them" (בִּבְכִי יָבֹאוּ וּבְתַחֲנוּנִים אוֹבִילֵם). And further it says (וּכְתִיב), (Jeremiah 31), "For there is reward for your work" (כִּי יֵשׁ שָׂכָר לִפְעוּלָתֵךְ). At that time, Rachel, who is on the way, will rejoice with Israel and with the Shekhinta, as our colleagues have established "And it came to pass when Israel dwelled in that land, that Reuven went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard; and the sons of Ya'akov were twelve" (וַיְהִי בִּשְׁכֹּן יִשְׂרָאֵל בָּאָרֶץ הַהִיא וַיֵּלֶךְ רְאוּבֵן וַיִּשְׁכַּב אֶת בִּלְהָה פִּלֶּגֶשׁ אָבִיו וַיִּשְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּהְיוּ בְּנֵי יַעֲקֹב שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר). Rabbi El'azar said (רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר אָמַר): "When Israel dwelled in that land" means after Leah and Rachel had died, and the household required someone to manage it (וַיְהִי בִּשְׁכֹּן יִשְׂרָאֵל בָּאָרֶץ הַהִיא, דְּהָא לֵאָה וְרָחֵל מִיתוּ, וְנָטְלָא בֵּיתָא מַאן דְּנָטִיל).

Does it enter your mind that Reuven actually went and lay with Bilhah? Rather, all the days Leah and Rachel were alive, the Shekhinta dwelt upon them After they died, the Shekhinta did not depart from the house but dwelled in Bilhah's tent

Even though the Shekhinta desired to properly maintain the household, if Ya'akov had not been found in the union of male and female, the Shekhinta would not have openly dwelled in the house Thus the Shekhinta resided in Bilhah's tent When Reuven saw Bilhah inheriting his mother's position, he went and disturbed the bed arrangement And because the Shekhinta dwelt upon Bilhah, it is written about him, "He lay with Bilhah" (וְעַל דְּקָיְימָא שְׁכִינְתָּא עֲלָהּ, כְּתִיב בֵּיהּ וַיִּשְׁכַּב אֶת בִּלְהָה).

Rabbi Yeisa said (רַבִּי יֵיסָא אָמַר): He slept upon that bed and paid no heed to the honor of the Shekhinta (דְּנָאִים עַל הַהוּא עַרְסָא וְלָא חַיִּישׁ לִיקָרָא דִשְׁכִינְתָּא). Nevertheless, this did not diminish the count of the tribes, and the verse comes and restores his account Therefore it is written (בְּגִין כָּךְ כְּתִיב), "Reuven, the firstborn of Ya'akov" (בְּכוֹר יַעֲקֹב רְאוּבֵן), making him head of all the tribes (וְאִיהוּ עָבִיד קְרָא רֵישָׁא דְּכָל שִׁבְטִין).

Rabbi Yehudah opened and said (רַבִּי יְהוּדָה פָּתַח וְאָמַר): (Hoshea 14) "For the ways of Hashem are straight…" (כִּי יְשָׁרִים דַּרְכֵי יְיָ וְגו'), meaning all the paths of Kudsha Berikh Hu are upright and truthful (כָּל אָרְחוֹי דְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא כֻּלְּהוּ יְשָׁרִים וְאָרְחוֹי קְשׁוֹט). But worldly people neither know nor pay attention to what these paths lead to Therefore, "the righteous will walk in them" (וְעַל דָּא וְצַדִּיקִים יֵלְכוּ בָם), for they know the paths of Kudsha Berikh Hu and diligently study the Orayta (בְּגִין דְּאִינוּן יָדְעִין אָרְחוֹי דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא וּמִשְׁתַּדְּלֵי בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא). Anyone who studies Orayta knows these paths and walks in them without turning aside to the right or left

But "transgressors stumble in them" (וּפוֹשְׁעִים יִכָּשְׁלוּ בָם) these are the wicked who neither engage in the Orayta nor contemplate the paths of Kudsha Berikh Hu, and do not know where these paths lead (אִלֵּין אִינוּן חַיָּיבִין דְּלָא מִשְׁתַּדְּלֵי בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, וְלָא מִסְתַּכְּלָן בְּאָרְחוֹי דְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא וְלָא יָדְעִין לְאָן אוֹרְחֵי אָזְלִין). Because they do not observe or study Orayta, they stumble upon these paths in this world and the World-to-Come

Come and see (תָּא חֲזֵי): Every person who engages in the Orayta, when departing from this world, his soul ascends along those paths and ways of Orayta (כָּל בַּר נָשׁ דְּאִשְׁתַּדַּל בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, כַּד נָפִיק מֵהַאי עַלְמָא נִשְׁמָתֵיהּ סָלְקָא בְּאִינוּן אָרְחִין וּשְׁבִילִין דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא). These paths and ways of Orayta are known, and those who recognized them in this world will walk securely in them in the next world when they leave this world

But those who do not engage in Orayta in this world and do not know these paths and ways (וְאִי לָא אִשְׁתַּדָּלוּ בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא בְּהַאי עַלְמָא וְלָא יָדְעִין אָרְחִין וּשְׁבִילִין), when they depart from this world, will not know how to walk in those paths and ways and will stumble therein (כַּד יִפְקוּן מֵהַאי עַלְמָא לָא יִנְדְּעוּן לְמֵיהַךְ בְּאִינוּן אָרְחִין וּשְׁבִילִין וְכָשְׁלִין בְּהוֹן). They will then follow other paths that are not paths of Orayta, and judgments will awaken against them, and they will be punished thereby But concerning one who engages in Orayta, what is written? (Proverbs 6), "When you lie down, it will guard you; and when you awaken, it will speak for you" (בְּשָׁכְבְּךָ תִּשְׁמֹר עָלֶיךָ וַהֲקִיצוֹתָ הִיא תְשִׂיחֶךָ). "When you lie down," means in the grave; the Orayta will guard you against the judgment of that world "And when you awaken," means when Kudsha Berikh Hu arouses spirits and souls to revive the dead; then it will speak for you

It will be an advocate for the body, so those bodies that properly studied Orayta will arise These are the ones who will rise first to everlasting life, as it is said (Daniel 12), "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awaken, these to everlasting life..." They will rise to everlasting life because they engaged in the everlasting life, which is the Orayta

Come and see (וְתָּא חֲזֵי): All those who studied Orayta, that body will endure, and the Orayta will protect it (כָּל אִינוּן דְּאִשְׁתַּדְּלוּ בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, הַהוּא גּוּפָא יִתְקַיַּים וְאוֹרַיְיתָא תָּגִין עֲלֵיהּ). What is the reason? (מַאי טַעְמָא), Because at that time, Kudsha Berikh Hu will awaken one spirit that includes all four directions (בְּגִין דִּבְהַהִיא שַׁעְתָּא יִתְעַר קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא חַד רוּחָא דְּכָלִיל מֵאַרְבַּע רוּחִין). And that spirit, encompassing the four directions, will be available to all who engaged in Orayta, to revive them with this spirit, so they may endure forever
