Daf 214b (דַּף רי״ד ע״ב)
How is it that they were not prevented, one from the other, and not equal? (כֵּיצַד לָא אִתְמְנָעוּ דָּא מִן דָּא, וְלָא שָׁוִין). Two were separated-Berikh Hu (the Blessed One), whose letters assist the Hand of her Husband, Hashem (אִתְפְּרַשׁ תְּרֵין אִלֵּין: בְּרִיךְ הוּא דִּבְאַתְוַותְהוֹן סַיְּיעָאן יַד בַּעֲלָהּ יְיָ), two to the Father, their numerations are separated (תְּרֵין לְאָב, מִנְיָנֵיהוֹן מִתְפָּרַשׁ). From these were created the heavens and the earth and all that is with them (מֵאִלֵּין אִתְבְּרִיאוּ שְׁמַיָּא וְאַרְעָא וּדְעִמֵּיהּ). And these are the first Sefira, which is the supernal Keter (וְאִינוּן סְפִירָא קַדְמָאָה, דְּהִיא כִּתְרָא עִלָּאָה). The second: (Proverbs 15) “In every place, the eyes of Hashem observe the evil and the good” (תִּנְיָנָא: בְּכָל מָקוֹם עֵינֵי יְיָ צוֹפוֹת רָעִים וְטוֹבִים). The third: they assist the one Name, the Vav, which made many letters in the land of Egypt

“And Ya'akov said to Yosef: El Shaddai appeared to me in Luz, in the land of Canaan” (וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֶל יוֹסֵף: אֵל שַׁדַּי נִרְאָה אֵלַי בְּלוּז בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן) (Bereshit 48). Rabbi Abba said (רִבִּי אַבָּא אָמַר): Luz is the supernal Yerushalayim (לוּז דָּא יְרוּשָׁלַיִם עִלָּאָה), where the Shekhinta dwells within it (דְּאַשְׁרָאָה שְׁכִינְתָּא בֵּינָהָא). Ya'akov said (אָמַר יַעֲקֹב): supernal to lower (עִלָּאָה לְתַתָּאָה), “Give me the blessing which He desires” (הַב לִי בִּרְכָתָא דְּהוּא בָּעֵי), “that I may increase you” (לְאַנְפִּישׁ יַתְכוֹן אֲנָא), and to give the land to your children (וּלְמִיתַּן יַת אַרְעָא לִבְנֵיכוֹן). This Luz is the supernal Yerushalayim (לוּז זוֹ יְרוּשָׁלַיִם עִלָּאָה), Kudsha Berikh Hu-great is He who is the blessing that came through Him (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא: הַב רַבְרְבָא דְּהַוְיָן בְּרָכָה דָּא עַל יְדֵיהּ), in the fruitful land (בְּאַרְעָא רָבְיָאָה), but for the son, to another land, there will be no blessing (אֲבָל בְּרָא לְאַרְעָא אָחֳרָא לָא יְהֵא בִּרְכָתָא).
Rabbi El‘azar opened and said (רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר פָּתַח וְאָמַר): (Proverbs 27) “He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning-it shall be considered a curse to him” (מְבָרֵךְ רֵעֵהוּ בְּקוֹל גָּדוֹל בַּבֹּקֶר הַשְׁכֵּם, קְלָלָה תֵחָשֵׁב לוֹ). Kudsha Berikh Hu calls Yisrael “brothers and friends” (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא קָרָא לְיִשְׂרָאֵל אַחִים וְרֵעִים). What is the blessing that He gave them? (מַאי בִּרְכָתָא יָהַב לוֹן) that this is the pure people under His hand (דִּיהוֹן הַאי עַמָּא דַּכְיָא תַּחוֹת יְדֵיהּ), and to be watched over by Him (וְלִמֶהֱוֵי עֲלֵיהוֹן נָטִיר).
Blessed is the portion of this pure people (זַכָּאָה חוּלְקֵיהוֹן דְּהַאי עַמָּא דַּכְיָא), who are under Him (דְּהוּא עֲלֵיהוֹן), who are called beloved children, more than supernal (דְּאִקְרֵי בָּנִים חֲבִיבִים יַתִּיר מֵעִלָּאָה), as it is written: (Deuteronomy 4) “You are children to Hashem your Elohim” (בָּנִים אַתֶּם לַיי אֱלֹהֵיכֶם). All of this is for this reason (כֹּלָּא בְּדִיל דָּא). What is it? (מַהוּ) Because the Name is completed in their seal (בְּדִיל דְּאִשְׁתַּלִּים שְׁמָא בְּחוֹתָמָא דִּלְהוֹן), for they are decreed ones (דְּאִינוּן גְּזִירִין).
Come and see (תָּא חֲזֵי): in the face of a human being is the Name of Kudsha Berikh Hu (בְּאַנְפּוֹי דְּאֵינָשָׁא שְׁמָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and it is lacking the Yod from it (וְחַסְרָא יו״ד מִנֵּיהּ), and it is not complete (וְלָא אִשְׁתְּלִים). Avraham came and showed love to Kudsha Berikh Hu (אֲתָא אַבְרָהָם וְחִבֵּב לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and He said to him: “With you shall the Name be completed” (וְאָמַר לֵיהּ: בָּךְ אִשְׁתְּלִים שְׁמָא), and it was decreed (וְאִתְגְּזַר), and the Name was completed with the Yod of the Milah (וְאִשְׁתְּלִים שְׁמָא בְּיו״ד דְּמִילָה).
In the face of a person are the letters Shin of Shaddai, and Dalet (בְּאַנְפּוֹי דְּאִנָשָׁא: שִׁי״ן דְּשַׁדַּי וְדַלֶּת), but the Yod is missing (חָסֵר יו״ד). It is completed by the Yod of the Milah (אִשְׁתְּלִים בְּיו״ד דְּמִילָה), and then they are called “children to Hashem” (וּכְדֵין אִקְרוּן בָּנִים לַי־יָ), holy children (בְּנִין קַדִּישִׁין). And when they defile that holy sign of the covenant (וְכַד מְסָאֲבִין לֵיהּ לְהַאי אָת קַיָּימָא קַדִּישָׁא), and bring it into another domain (וְעֲאִיל לֵיהּ לִרְשׁוּ אָחֳרָא), the sanctity of the seal departs from it (סָלִיק מִנֵּיהּ הַאי קִדּוּשָׁא דְּחוֹתָמָא), and it is as though the world is destroyed (וְהוּא כְּמָה דְּחָרִיב עַלְמָא), and the seal is defiled, in which the Name of Kudsha Berikh Hu was completed (וְסָאִיב חוֹתָמָא דְּאִשְׁתְּלִים בֵּיהּ שְׁמָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and behold, the world is destroyed (וְהָא הוּא חָרִיב עַלְמָא).
Rabbi Abba was walking from Kapotkiya (רִבִּי אַבָּא הֲוָה אָזִיל מִקַּפּוֹטְקִיָּא), and Rabbi Yose was with him (וְהֲוָה עִמֵּיהּ רִבִּי יוֹסֵי). As they walked, they saw a man approaching (עַד דְּהֲווּ אָזְלֵי, חָמוּ חַד בַּר נָשׁ דְּהֲוָה אָתֵי), and a mark was on his face (וּרְשִׁימָא חַד בְּאַנְפּוֹי). But woe to the wicked (אֲבָל וַוֵי לוֹן לְחַיָּיבַיָּא), whose image is without Teshuvah (דִּימוּתוּן בְּלָא תְּשׁוּבָה), that the mark is not removed from him (דְּלָא יַעֲדֵי מִנֵּיהּ רְשִׁימָא) neither in this world nor in the World to Come (לֹא בְּעָלְמָא דֵּין, וְלֹא בְּעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי). “And He said to me: Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you” (וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי: הִנְנִי מַפְרְךָ וְהִרְבֵּיתִיךָ) (Bereshit 48).
Rabbi Abba opened and said (רִבִּי אַבָּא פָּתַח וְאָמַר): This verse is (Isaiah 29) “Now Ya'akov shall not be ashamed, and now his face shall not grow pale” (הַאי קְרָא: לֹא עַתָּה יֵבוֹשׁ יַעֲקֹב, וְלֹא עַתָּה פָּנָיו יֶחֱוָרוּ). And if someone says something good to another person according to his will (וְכִי אֵינָשׁ דְּאָמַר טַב לְבַר נָשׁ כַּוָּותֵיהּ), if he does not fulfill what he said (אִי לָא יַשְׁלִים מַה דְּאָמַר), his face will be shamed (אַפּוֹהִי מִתְבַּיְּישָׁן). How much more so with the supernal [One] to a person (עַל אַחַת כַּמָּה וְכַמָּה מִן עִלָּאֵי לְבַר נָשׁ), that if He does not bring all the good that He said regarding His children (דְּאִי לָא מַיְיתֵי כָּל טַב דְּאָמַר עַל בְּנוֹהִי), His face would be ashamed (אַנְפּוֹהִי מִתְבַּיְּישָׁן).
Kudsha Berikh Hu said to him (אָמַר קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לֵיהּ): “I am the supernal Yisrael” (אֲנָא יִשְׂרָאֵל עִלָּאָה), for I shall increase and exalt you (דְּאֲנָא מַפְשִׁינָךְ וְאַסְגִּינָךְ). This blessing that was given to Me-“and I shall give this land to your offspring” (הַאי בִּרְכָתָא דְּיָהִיב לִי, וְאֶתֵּן יַת אַרְעָא הָדָא לִבְרֵיכוֹן) was not in the land, and it was not with them (לָא הֲוָה בְּאַרְעָא, לָא הֲוָה עִמְּהוֹן). But when the end-time of Mashiach comes and it is fulfilled (כַּד יֵיתֵי קִיצָא דִּמְשִׁיחָא וְיִשְׁתַּלִּים), Kudsha Berikh Hu will say (אָמַר קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא): “Now Ya'akov shall not be ashamed” (Isaiah 29) (לֹא עַתָּה יֵבוֹשׁ יַעֲקֹב), for now the countenance of supernal Ya'akov (כְּעַן אַנְפוֹי דְּיַעֲקֹב דִּלְעֵילָא) is no longer ashamed for having said to them, ‘I shall give’” (לָא מִתְבַּיֵּישָׁן מִדַּאֲמַר לְהוֹן: אֶתֵּן), for until now it was not in his hand (אֲרֵי עַד כְּעַן לָא הֲווּ בִּידֵיהּ), and his face was ashamed (וְהֲווּ אַנְפוֹהִי מִתְבַּיֵּישָׁן). Now it is helped from before the Master of heaven and earth (כְּעַן דִּילֵיהּ מִסְתַּיֵּיעַ מִן קֳדָם מָארֵי שְׁמַיָּא וְאַרְעָא).
As we have said (כְּמָה דְּאַמְרִינָן): the blow to Amalek (אֲגָחְנָא דַּעֲמָלֵק), when the end is complete, will be only by the strength of the Hand (כַּד יִשְׁתַּלִּים קִיצָא, לָא יְהֵא אֶלָּא בִּתְקוֹף יְדָא), as it was on the day of battle (כְּמָה דְּהֲוַי בְּיוֹם קְרָב): “And Hashem shall go forth and wage war against those nations” (Zechariah 14) (וְיָצָא ייָ וְנִלְחַם בַּגּוֹיִם הָהֵם) His and not another’s (דִּידֵיהּ וְלָא אָחֳרָא). “And now, your two sons who were born to you…” (וְעַתָּה שְׁנֵי בָנֶיךָ הַנּוֹלָדִים לְךָ) (Bereshit 48). This refers to Yisrael below, who are in exile (דָּא יִשְׂרָאֵל לְתַתָּא, דְּאַתְרֵיהוֹן בְּגָלוּתָא), the children of Kudsha Berikh Hu, who were born among the nations (בְּנוֹי דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, דְּאִתְיְילִידוּ בֵּינִי עַמְמַיָּא).
It was taught: Rabbi Yose said (תָּנָא אָמַר רִבִּי יוֹסֵי): when Yisrael are in the Holy Land of Yisrael (יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּד יְהוֹן בְּאַרְעָא קַדִּישָׁא דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל), they dwell in the land (דָּר בְּאַרְעָא). When Mashiach comes (כַּד יֵיתֵי מְשִׁיחָא), they shall be with their brothers, who are theirs, after them (יְהוֹן עִם אֲחוּהוֹן דִּילָהוֹן בַּתְרֵיהוֹן). For it is not called exile except for one who dwells in a foreign land (דְּלָא אִתְקְרֵי גָּלוּת אֶלָּא לְמַאן דְּאִיהוּ דָּר בְּאַרְעָא נוּכְרָאָה); they are called exiles (אִינוּן אִתְקַרְיָין גָּלְיָין). (Leviticus 26): “And I will remember My covenant with Ya'akov…” (וְזָכַרְתִּי אֶת בְּרִיתִי יַעֲקֹב). The extra Vav (וָאו יְתֵירָא): the Vav will come, which departed when the Temple was destroyed (תֵּיתֵי וָו דְּאִסְתַּלְּקַת כַּד אִתְחָרִיב בֵּיתָא), and it will be a support for Ya'akov (וּתְהֵא סִיּוּעָא לְיַעֲקֹב). When this happens, the holy Son shall be, and the land shall be an eternal inheritance (כַּד יְהֵא דָּא, וִיהֵא לִבְרָא קַדִּישָׁא אַרְעָא אַחְסָנַת עוֹלָם), and His children shall be in their land (וִיהוֹן בְּנוֹהִי בְּאַרְעָהוֹן), who dwelled from the beginning in their land (דְּדָארוּ מִקַּדְּמַת דְּנָא בְּאַרְעָהוֹן). Blessed is their portion (זַכָּאָה חוּלְקֵיהוֹן).
