And it was taught (וְתָאנָא): the radiance of these sixty that surround her (נְהִירוּ דְּאִלֵּין שִׁתִּין דְּסָחֲרָנָהָא), are inscribed in that Na‘ar (רְשִׁימִין בֵּיהּ בְּהַהוּא נַעַ״ר), and we call them “sixty lashes of fire” (וְקָרֵינָן לְהוּ שִׁתִּין פּוּלְסֵי דְּנוּרָא), in which the side of the Shekhinta is clothed (דְּאִתְלַבַּשׁ בְּהוּ מִסְּטָר דִּשְׁכִינְתָּא), flaring with judgment (מִתְלַהֲטָן בְּדִינָא). This is what is written: “Sixty mighty ones surround her” (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִּיב: שִׁשִּׁים גִּבּוֹרִים סָבִיב לָהּ) (Song of Songs 3).
It was taught (תָּאנָא): “And Moshe built an altar,” as I have said (וַיִּבֶן מֹשֶׁה מִזְבֵּחַ כְּמָה דַּאֲמֵינָא). “And he called its name: Hashem is my banner” (וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ ה׳ נִסִּי). “Hashem is my banner”—literally Why? (אֲמַאי) Because Amalek took all those that were decreed but had not been exacted (בְּגִין דַּעֲמָלֵק נָטַל כָּל אִינּוּן דַּהֲווֹ גְּזִירִין וְלָא אִתְפְּרָעוּ), and he decreed them and cast them upward (וְגָזַר לוֹן וְשָׁדֵי לְהוּ לְעֵילָּא), and said: “Take what You desired in him” (וְאָמַר: טוֹל מַה דְּאִתְרְעִית בֵּיהּ). At that time what is written? (בֵּיהּ שַׁעֲתָא מַה כְּתִיב?): “For a hand is on the throne of Yah—war for Hashem with Amalek from generation to generation” (וַיֹּאמֶר: כִּי יַד עַל כֵּס יָהּ מִלְחָמָה לַה׳ בַּעֲמָלֵק מִדֹּר דֹּר) (Exodus 17). “From generation to generation” incomplete, missing the dwellings above and the dwellings below
Rabbi Yehudah said (אָמַר רִבִּי יְהוּדָה): in every generation and generation (בְּכָל דָּרָא וְדָרָא), in all the generations that come into the world (בְּכָל דָּרִין דְּאַתְיָין לְעָלְמָא), there is no generation that does not have within it of that wicked seed (לֵית לָךְ דָּר דְּלֵית בְּהוּ מֵהַהוּא זַרְעָא בִּישָׁא), and Kudsha Berikh Hu wages battle against them (וּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אֲגַח בְּהוּ קְרָבָא). Rabbi Yitzḥak said: from the lower habitation to the upper habitation And about them it is written (וְעָלַיְיהוּ כְּתִיב): (Psalms 104) “Let sinners be consumed from the earth…” “From the earth”—in this world and in the World to Come At that time it is written (בֵּיהּ זִמְנָא כְּתִיב): “Bless Hashem, O my soul—Halleluyah!”
