Daf 114b (דַּף קי״ד ע״ב)

It has been said concerning you (וְאִתְּמַר בָּךְ), "Go, descend" (לֵךְ רֵד), there hinting at your descent (הָתָם קָא רָמִיז נְחִיתוּ דִּילָךְ), into the fourth exile (בְּגָלוּתָא רְבִיעָאָה), "Go" (לֵךְ): as for example (כְּגוֹן), (Bereshit 12) "Go forth from your land, etc." (לֶךְ לְךָ מֵאַרְצְךָ וְגוֹ'). Here (הָכָא) is written (ש), (Job 33) , "Indeed, all these Hashem performs, twice, thrice with a man" (הֵן כָּל אֵלֶּה יִפְעַל אֵל פַּעֲמַיִם שָׁלֹשׁ עִם גָּבֶר). Here it hints (הָכָא קָא רָמִיז) "Go," for you three times (לֶךְ, לְךָ ג' זִמְנִין), in incarnation (בְּגִלְגּוּלָא), in exile (בְּגָלוּתָא).

The fourth time, "descend" (רְבִיעָאָה רֵד), because of the only daughter (בְּגִין בַּת יְחִידָה), your bride (כַּלָּה דִּילָךְ), who has fallen (דְּנַפְלַה). Thus it is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב), (Amos 5), "She has fallen, she will not rise again" (נָפְלָה לֹא תוֹסִיף קוּם). Immediately when you descend for her sake (וּמִיַּד דְּאַנְתְּ נָחִית בְּגִינֵיהּ), she shall rise through you (תָּקוּם עֲלָךְ), and this (וְהַאי) (it is the restoration of a lost object, and this is the Orayta revealed through you) (אִיהוּ הֲשָׁבַת אֲבֵדָה, וְהַאי אוֹרַיְיתָא דְּאִתְגַּלְיָא עַל יָדָךְ הָאִי) is indeed the restoration of your own lost object (אִיהוּ הֲשָׁבַת אֲבֵדָה דִּילָךְ), for not in vain was the Orayta revealed to you (דְּלָאו לְמַגָּנָא אִתְגַּלְיָא לָךְ אוֹרַיְיתָא), more than to all Yisrael (יַתִּיר מִכָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל), and it ascended to you (וְאִסְתַּלָּקַת לְגַבָּךְ), like waters of the well that ascended to you (כְּמַיָּא דִּבְאֵר דְּאִסְתַּלָּקוּ לְגַבָּךְ), and not to the Patriarchs (וְלָא לַאֲבָהָן), nor to any other man (וְלָא לְבַר נָשׁ), because the well recognizes its master (דְּהָא בְּאֵר מַכֶּרֶת אֲדוֹנֶיהָ).

Concerning this Orayta (וְאוֹרַיְיתָא דָּא), it is said (אִתְּמַר עָלָהּ), (Numbers 21), "And from there to Be'erah; this is the well, etc." (וּמִשָּׁם בְּאֵרָה הִיא הַבְּאֵר וְגוֹ'). The well is full (הַבְּאֵר הִיא מַלְיָא), its waters never flow outward (וְלָא נָפְקִין מֵימוֹי לְבַר). And it is the well of waters of Orayta (וְאִיהוּ בְּאֵר מַיָּא דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא), which draws forth all waters (דְּאַפִּיק כָּל מַיִין), and all waters of the world enter it (וְכָל מַיִין דְּעָלְמָא עָאלִין בֵּיהּ), yet its waters never flow outward (וְלָא נָפְקִין מֵימוֹי לְבַר). And it is the well (וְאִיהוּ בְּאֵר), that even if all people of the world draw water from it (דְּאֲפִילּוּ כָּל בְּנֵי עָלְמָא שָׁאֲבִין מִנֵּיהּ מַיָּא), and even all clouds of the world (וַאֲפִילּוּ כָּל עֲנָנֵי עָלְמָא), nothing is diminished from it (לָא חֲסֵרִין מִנֵּיהּ), even by a hair’s breadth (אֲפִילּוּ כְּחוּט הַשַּׂעֲרָה).

For this well (בְּגִין דִּבְאֵר דָּא) has no end (לֵית לֵיהּ סוֹף), it is deeper even than the Orayta (יַתִּיר עָמוֹק הוּא מִדְּאוֹרַיְיתָא), of which it is said (דְּאִתְּמַר בָּהּ), (Job 11), "and broader than the sea" (וּרְחָבָה מִנִּי יָם). And when its own vessel (וּבְכַד דִּילֵיהּ), whoever draws water from it (מַאן דְּשָׁאֲבֵי מִנֵּיהּ מַיָּא), he swallows (אִיהוּ בָּלַע), (Some say: all waters and all wisdoms) (ס''א כָּל מֵימִין וְכָל חָכְמָתִין), all wisdoms of the world (כָּל חָכְמָתִין דְּעָלְמָא), how much more so the well itself (כָּל שֶׁכֵּן בְּאֵר עַצְמוֹ). And so in the future (וְכֵן עָתִיד), Kudsha Berikh Hu (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) will restore to you your stolen object (לְאָהַדְרָא לָךְ גֶּזֶל דִּילָךְ), which is the staff (דְּאִיהוּ מַטֶּה), of which it is said (דְּאִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ), (II Samuel 23), "And he seized the spear from the hand of the Egyptian" (וַיִּגְזוֹל אֶת הַחֲנִית מִיַּד הַמִּצְרִי), concerning you it says "Egyptian man" (דְּעָלָךְ אִתְּמַר אִישׁ מִצְרִי). And in your exile (וּבְגָלוּתָא דִּילָךְ), and in your reincarnation (וּבְגִלְגּוּלָא דִּילָךְ), He will set aside cities of refuge for you (יַפְרִישׁ לָךְ עָרֵי מִקְלָט), to save you (לְשֵׁזָבָא), from the countless who pursue you (מִכַּמָּה דְּרַדְפִין אֲבַתְרָךְ), who have no end (דְּלֵית לְהוֹן סוֹף).

It is a commandment (וְהַאי אִיהוּ פִּקּוּדָא), to set apart cities of refuge (לְהַפְרִישׁ עָרֵי מִקְלָט), for one who killed (לְמַאן דְּקָטַל), because of that Egyptian whom you killed in Egypt (בְּגִין הַהוּא מִצְרִי דְּקָטַלַת בְּמִצְרַיִם), for there was the Primordial Serpent (דְּתַּמָּן הֲוָה נָחָשׁ הַקַּדְמוֹנִי), and all his hosts (וְכָל מַשִּׁרְיָיתֵיהּ), who surrounded him (דַּהֲווֹ סָחֲרִין לֵיהּ), and you killed him before his time (וְקָטְלַת לֵיהּ בְּלָא זִמְנֵיהּ), and you did not fear his pursuers (וְלָא דָּחַלְתָּ מֵרוֹדְפִין דִּילֵיהּ), who chased you in many places (דִּבְכַמָּה אַתְרִין רָדְפוּ אֲבָתְרָךְ), many women in your youth (כַּמָּה נָשִׁין בְּנַעֲרוּתָךְ), who are Na’amah, Agrat, Lilith, and Uchama (דְּאִינּוּן נַעֲמָ''ה אַגְרַ''ת לִילִי''ת אוּכָמָא). Kudsha Berikh Hu (וְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) gave you cities of refuge (יָהִיב לָךְ עָרֵי מִקְלָט), to be saved from them (לְאִשְׁתְּזָבָא מִנְּהוֹן), and these are the gates of Teshuvah (repentance) (וְאִינּוּן שַׁעֲרֵי תְּשׁוּבָה). Because you are the son of Yah (בְּגִין דְּאַתְּ בֵּן יָהּ), the son of Abba and Imma (בְּרָא דְּאַבָּא וּדְאִמָא). After you returned with the letter Hei in repentance (בָּתַר דְּהַדְרַת בְּהֵ''א בְּתִיוּבְתָּא), you ascended into Binah (אִסְתְּלַּקְתּ בַּבִּינָה), Yud-Hei-Vav (יה''ו), the Tree of Life (אִילָנָא דְּחַיֵּי), and for its sake you merited the letter Hei (וּבְגִינָהּ אַתְּ זָכֵי לְאָת ה'), because you brought yourself after Her (בְּגִין דְּאַעִילַת גַּרְמָךְ אֲבַתְרָהָא), in repentance to return Her to your Master (בְּתִיוּבְתָּא לְאָהַדְרָא לָהּ לְמָרָךְ), and to raise Her from exile (וּלְסַלְּקָא לָהּ מִגָּלוּתָא), and you did not seek reward for yourself (וְלָא לְקַבְּלָא אַנְתְּ אַגְרָא). And Kudsha Berikh Hu (וְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) placed His Name in you (שַׁוֵּי שְׁמֵיהּ בָּךְ), and because your thought was directed towards the Cause of Causes (וּבְגִין דְּמַחֲשָׁבָה דִּילָךְ הֲוַת לְעִלַּת הָעִלּוֹת), He placed His thought in you (שַׁוִּי בָּךְ מַחֲשַׁבְתֵּיהּ), which is Yud-Hei-Vav-Hei (דְּאִיהִי יוּ״ד הֵ״א וָא״ו הֵ״א). And the Cause of Causes (וְעִלַּת הָעִלּוֹת) unifies these letters within you (אִיהוּ מְיַחֵד אִלֵּין אַתְוָון בָּךְ), to become known through these letters (לְאִשְׁתְּמוֹדְעָא לֵיהּ בְּאִלֵּין אַתְוָון).

And because you acted kindly toward Shekhinta (וּבְגִין דְּאַתְּ הֲוֵית גּוֹמֵל חֶסֶד עִם שְׁכִינְתָּא), by fulfilling all your commandments (דְּכָל פִּקּוּדִין דִּילָךְ לְקַיְּימָא), "Who is a Chasid? One who is kind to his Maker" (אֵיזֶהוּ חָסִיד הַמִּתְחַסֵּד עִם קוֹנוֹ). He gave you the attribute of Chesed (יָהַב לָךְ מִדַּת חֶסֶד). And because you observed the negative commandments (וּבְגִין דְּנָטַרְתָּ פִּקּוּדִין דְּלָא תַּעֲשֶׂה), strengthening yourself over your inclination (וַהֲוָה לָךְ לְאִתְגַּבְּרָא עַל יִצְרָךְ), to subdue it beneath your hand (לְמִקְשָׁר לֵיהּ תְּחוֹת יְדָךְ), and your effort was not for your own sake in this command (וְלָא אִשְׁתַּדְּלַת בְּהַאי פִּקּוּדָא), but only to subjugate Sama'el beneath the hand of Kudsha Berikh Hu (אֶלָּא לְקַשְּׁרָא סָמָאֵ״ל תְּחוֹת יְדָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), along with his mate, the wicked maidservant (וּבַת זוּגֵיהּ דְּאִיהִי שִׁפְחָתָא בִּישָׁא), beneath the hand of her mistress (תְּחוֹת יַד גְּבִירְתָּא), and all their ministers and hosts (לוֹן וּלְכָל מְמָנָן וּלְכָל מַשְׁרְיָין דִּלְהוֹן).

Kudsha Berikh Hu gave you His attribute of Gevurah (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא יָהַב לָךְ, מִדַּת גְּבוּרָה דִּילֵיהּ), to assist you (לְמֶהוֵי בִּסְיַּעְתָּךְ), so that Sama'el and his mate, and all their ministers and hosts (דְּיִתְחַלְחַלוּן וִידַחֲלוּן מִינָךְ, סָמָאֵ''ל וּבַת זוּגֵיהּ, וְכָל מְמָנָן וּמַשְׁרְיָין דִּלְהוֹן) would tremble and fear you (וִיהוֹן קְשׁוּרִים בְּשַׁלְשְׁלָאֵי תְּחוֹת יְדָךְ). And because you returned in Teshuvah (וּבְגִין דְּהַדְרַת בְּתִיוּבְתָּא), with the sign of the covenant (בְּאוֹת בְּרִית), Binah—Yud Hei Vav (נָחִית בִּינָה יה''ו) descended to unite with Tzaddik (לְאִתְחַבְּרָא בְּצַדִיק). For your sake (בְּגִינָךְ), Kudsha Berikh Hu (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) gave you the sign of His righteous covenant (יָהִיב לָךְ אוֹת בְּרִית צַדִּיק דִּילֵיהּ). And because your good thought accomplished everything (וּבְגִין דְּמַחֲשָׁבָה טוֹבָה עָבַדְתְּ כֹּלָּא), thus the Explicit Name of your Master descended upon you (הָכִי נָחִית שְׁמָא מְפֹרָשׁ דְּמָרָךְ עָלָךְ), and from there (וּמִתַּמָּן), (some say: the imprint descended) descended upon you (נ''א רְשׁוּמָא דְּנָחִית נָחִית עָלָךְ). And because you strive every day (וּבְגִין דְּאַנְתְּ תִּשְׁתָּדֵּל בְּכָל יוֹמָא), with your two lips in prayer (בִּתְרֵין שִׂפְוָון דִּילָךְ בִּצְלוֹתָא), to praise your Master (לְשַׁבְּחָא לְמָרָךְ), with "Adonai open my lips" (בַּאֲדֹנָי שְׂפָתַי תִּפְתָּח), through your two lips (בִּתְרֵין שִׂפְוָון דִּילָךְ), through the Prophets and the Writings (בִּנְבִיאִים וּבַכְתוּבִים), and with every manner of song and melody in prayer (וּבְכָל מִינֵי זֵמֶר וְנִגּוּן בִּצְלוֹתָא), Kudsha Berikh Hu (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) descends into your lips (נָחִית לוֹן בְּשִׂפְוָון דִּילָךְ).

How much more so your own level (כָּל שֶׁכֵּן דַּרְגָּא דִּילָךְ), the central pillar (עַמּוּדָא דְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא), through which you truly strive each day of your life (וּבֵיהּ אִשְׁתַּדְּלַת בְּכָל יוֹמִין דִּילָךְ בִּקְשׁוֹט), Kudsha Berikh Hu gave it to you (קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא יָהֲבֵיהּ לָךְ), so that you may ascend through it (לְסַלְּקָא לָךְ בֵּיהּ), in the Torah of truth (בְּתוֹרַת אֱמֶת), crowned with all Middot and letters (כְּלִילָא מִכָּל מִדּוֹת וְאַתְוָון), with the Explicit Name (בִּשְׁמָא מְפֹרָשׁ), in four letters (בְּד' אַתְוָון).
