Daf 118a (דַּף קי״ח ע״א)
All the more so (כָּל שֶׁכֵּן) one who removes Her from Her place (מַאן דְּאַעְבַּר לָהּ מֵאַתְרָהָא), and sets the handmaid in Her place (וְשַׁוֵּי שִׁפְחָה בְּאַתְרָהָא). For in any place that is blemished (דִּבְכָל אֲתָר דְּאִיהוּ פָּגִים), the Matronita does not dwell there (מַטְרוֹנִיתָא לָא שַׁרְיָא תַּמָּן), but rather the handmaid (אֶלָּא שִׁפְחָה), who herself is blemished (דְּאִיהִי פְּגִימָא), dwells in that blemished place (שַׁרְיָא בַּאֲתַר פָּגִים). And the blemish of a person’s sins (וּפְגִימוּ דְּבַר נָשׁ דְּחוֹבוֹי), blemishes all of his limbs (פָּגִים בְּכָל אֵבָרִין דִּילֵיהּ), until the Matronita finds no place to dwell there (עַד דְּלָא אַשְׁכָּחַת מַטְרוֹנִיתָא אֲתָר לְשַׁרְיָא תַּמָּן). And he has no rectification (וְלֵית לֵיהּ תִּקּוּנָא) until he returns Her upon all his limbs (עַד דְּיַחֲזִיר לָהּ עַל כָּל אֵבָרִין דִּילֵיהּ).
The Holy Luminary, the Faithful Shepherd, said (אָמַר בּוּצִינָא קַדִּישָׁא, רַעְיָא מְהֵימָנָא): For this reason (בְּגִין דָּא), you rectify through this composition (אַנְתְּ מְתַקֵּן, בְּחִבּוּרָא דָּא) of the 248 commandments (דְּרמ״ח פִּקּוּדִין), to enthrone Kudsha Berikh Hu (לְאַמְלְכָא לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) upon all limbs of the Shekhinta (עַל כָּל אֵבָרִים דִּשְׁכִינְתָּא), through each and every commandment (בְּכָל פִּקּוּדָא וּפִקּוּדָא). And you do not consider your own honor (וְלֵית אַנְתְּ חָיִישׁ לִיקָרָךְ). Fortunate is your portion (זַכָּאָה חוּלָקָךְ), for just as you enthrone Kudsha Berikh Hu (דִּכְגַוְונָא דְּאַנְתְּ מַמְלִיךְ לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא) upon all limbs of the Shekhinta (בְּכָל אֵבָרִים דִּשְׁכִינְתָּא), which are the possessors of attributes (דְּאִינּוּן בַּעֲלֵי מִדּוֹת), who are all Yisrael (דְּכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל). For these possessors of attributes (מָארֵי מִדּוֹת), they are the limbs of the Shekhinta (אִינּוּן אֵבָרִים דִּשְׁכִינְתָּא). Thus Kudsha Berikh Hu causes His Name to dwell upon you (הָכִי עָבִיד קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לְשַׁרְיָא שְׁמֵיהּ עָלָךְ), and enthrones you (וְיַמְלְכִינָךְ) over all supernal and lower hosts p6-65(עַל כָּל מַשְׁרְיָין עִלָּאִין וְתַתָּאִין).
Arise, Faithful Shepherd (קוּם רַעְיָא מְהֵימָנָא), to arrange the laws (לְסַדְּרָא דִּינִין) in Hilkhot Nezikin (laws of damages) (בְּהִלְכוֹת נְזִקִין), according to the arrangement of this Name (בְּסִדּוּרָא דִּשְׁמָא דָּא), Havayah (הָוָיָ״ה). Which is (דְּאִיהוּ), the chariots of Elohim are myriads, thousands of Shin’an (רֶכֶב אֱלֹהִים רִבּוֹתַיִם אַלְפֵי שִׁנְאָן) (Psalms 68), which are (דְּאִינּוּן): Ox, Eagle, Lion, Adam (שׁוֹר נֶשֶׁר אַרְיֵה אָדָם).
For from the right side (דְּהָא מִסִּטְרָא דִּימִינָא), where Yud Hei Vav Hei resides (דְּתַּמָּן יְדוָֹ״ד), these four Chayot are arranged thus (ד׳ חִיוָון, הָכִי אִיהוּ סִדּוּרָא דִּלְהוֹן): Adam, Lion, Eagle, Ox (אָדָם אַרְיֵה נֶשֶׁר שׁוֹר). And according to changes that occur (וּכְפוּם שִׁנּוּיִין דְּהֲוָיָין), thus is the movement and arrangement of the Chayot (הָכִי אִיהוּ תְּנוּעָה וְסִדּוּרָא דְּחֵיוָן). But the Chayot from the Sitra achra (וְחֵיוָן דְּסִטְרָא אַחֲרָא), which are the damages from the left side (דְּאִינּוּן נְזִיקִין דִּשְׂמָאלָא), their arrangement is Shin’an (הָכִי סִדּוּרַיְיהוּ, שִׁנְאָן). Therefore, their beginning is with the ox (וּבְגִין דָּא, הַתְחָלָה דִּלְהוֹן, הַשּׁוֹר). Tied to the four primary categories of damages (קָשׁוּר בְּד׳ אָבוֹת נְזִיקִין): the Ox, the Pit, the Mav'eh, and the Fire (הַשּׁוֹר וְהַבּוֹר וְהַמַּבְעֶה וְהַהֶבְעֵר). And their completion is Adam who is Forewarned [Mu'ad] (וְסִיּוּמָא דִּלְהוֹן אָדָם, מוּעָד).
Arise, awaken in judgments (קוּם אַתְעַר בְּדִינִין). The Faithful Shepherd opened and said (פָּתַח רַעְיָא מְהֵימָנָא וְאָמַר), "Hashem, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise" (אֲדֹנָי שְׂפָתַי תִּפְתָּח וּפִי יַגִּיד תְּהִלָּתֶךָ) (Psalms 51). The Name "Adonai" (אֲדֹנָ״י), through transposition of letters, forms "Dina" (בְּהִפּוּךְ אַתְוָון דִּינָ״א). For this reason, the masters of the Mishnah said (וּבְגִין דָּא, אָמְרוּ מָארֵי מַתְנִיתִין), "The law of the kingdom is law" (דִּינָ״א דְּמַלְכוּתָא דִּינָא). All judgments are judged through this Name (כָּל דִּינִין בְּהַאי שְׁמָא אִתְדָנוּ). (Some say: with Hei, Dalet, etc). (ס״א בְּה׳ בְּד׳ וְכוּ׳), with Dalet, with three (בְּד׳, בְּג׳). With Dalet: Shekhinta (בְּד׳ שְׁכִינְתָּא). (Some say: Beit Din with three, Beit Din is Shekhinta with three) (ס״א בֵּית דִּין בִּג׳ בֵּית דִּין שְׁכִינְתָּא בִּג׳), corresponding to the three Patriarchs (לָקֳבֵל תְּלַת אֲבָהָן).
The Middle Pillar (עַמּוּדָא דְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא), Judge of Truth (דַּיָּין אֱמֶת), and He is the Judge (וְהוּא דַּיָּין), judging from the side of Adonai (לָדוּן מִסִּטְרָא דַּאֲדֹנָ״י), wherein is the Judge of Truth (דְּתַּמָּן אִיהוּ דַּיָּין אֱמֶת). And from the side of the Name Elohim (וּמִסִּטְרָא דְּשֵׁם אֱלֹהִים), Judge (שׁוֹפֵט). As it is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִּכְתִּיב), "For Elohim is Judge" (כִּי אֱלֹהִים שׁוֹפֵט) (Psalms 75). And what are these judgments? (וּמַה דִּינִין אִינּוּן). One, to judge the damages of the ox (חַד, לָדוּן בְּנִזְקֵי שׁוֹר). Second, to judge the damages of the pit (תִּנְיָינָא, לָדוּן בְּנִזְקֵי בּוֹר). Third, to judge the damages of fire (תְּלִיתָאָה, לָדוּן בְּנִזְקֵי אֵשׁ). Fourth, to judge the damages of man (רְבִיעָאָה, לָדוּן בְּנִזְקֵי אָדָם). After these, to judge the laws of the four guardians (וַאֲבַתְרַיְיהוּ, לָדוּן בְּדִינֵי אַרְבַּע שׁוֹמְרִים).
The unpaid guardian (שׁוֹמֵר חִנָּם). And the paid guardian (וְשׁוֹמֵר שָׂכָר). And the borrower (וְהַשּׁוֹאֵל). And the carrier for hire (וְנוֹשֵׂא שָׂכָר). (Some say: and the renter) (ס״א וְהַשּׂוֹכֵר). Corresponding to these, there are four laws (לָקֳבְלַיְיהוּ, דִּינִין אַרְבְּעָה): The law of division between partners (דִּין חֲלוּקַת הַשּׁוּתָּפִים). The law of division of lands (דִּין חֲלוּקַת קַרְקָעוֹת). Laws regarding slaves and maidservants (דִּינֵי עֲבָדִים וּשְׁפָחוֹת). Laws concerning plaintiff and defendant (דִּינֵי תּוֹבֵעַ וְנִתְבָּע), involving many types of monetary claims (בְּכַמָּה מִינֵי תְּבִיעוֹת דְּחִיּוּב מָמוֹן), theft (וְגֶזֶל), lost property (וַאֲבֵדָה), or when one injures his fellow (אוֹ שֶׁמַּזִּיק לַחֲבֵרוֹ), and kills him by one of the four death penalties of Beit Din (וְהוֹרְגוֹ בְּאֶחָד מֵאַרְבַּע מִיתוֹת בֵּית דִּין).
Adon is Kudsha Berikh Hu (אָדוֹן אִיהוּ קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), in the Name Adonai (בַּאֲדֹנָ״י). To judge all types of judgments (לָדוּן בְּכָל מִינֵי דִּינִין), regarding the evil handmaid (לְשִׁפְחָה בִּישָׁא), "when she inherits her mistress" (כִּי תִירַשׁ גְּבִירְתָּהּ). From her, all forms of damage arise (דְּמִינָּהּ כָּל נְזִיקִין אִשְׁתְּכָחוּ), which are destructive angels (דְּאִינּוּן מַלְאֲכֵי חַבָּלָה), from whom come the souls of the wicked (דְּמִנַּיְיהוּ נִשְׁמָתְהוֹן שֶׁל רְשָׁעִים), as the masters of the Mishnah explained (כְּמָה דְּאוּקְמוּהָ מָארֵי מַתְנִיתִין), "The souls of the wicked are themselves the damaging forces in the world" p6-66(נִשְׁמוֹת הָרְשָׁעִים הֵן הֵן הַמַּזִּיקִים בָּעוֹלָם). A foreign god (אֵל אַחֵר), a damager (מַזִּיק), a wicked thief (גַּזְלָן רָשָׁע). And his consort (וּבַת זוּגֵיהּ), the poison of death (סַם הַמָּוֶת).
Damage, loss of livelihood, humiliation, and healing (נֶזֶק שֶׁבֶת וּבֹשֶׁת וְרִפּוּיּ), pertain to Shekhinta and Her children (לִשְׁכִינְתָּא וּבְנָהָא). Loss of livelihood (שֶׁבֶת) refers to neglect of Orayta (דְּבִטוּלָא דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא), whereby Her children become idle (דְּבָטִילַת לִבְנָהָא). Healing (וְרִפּוּיּ), refers to causing them to slacken from words of Torah (דְּגַרְמָת לוֹן דְּמִתְרַפִּין מִדִּבְרֵי תּוֹרָה). Damage (נְזֶק) refers to various injuries caused by destructive angels (בְּכַמָּה נְזִקִין דְּמַלְאֲכֵי חַבָּלָה), masters of destruction, wrath, and fury (מָארֵי מַשְׁחִית אַף וְחֵימָה). Humiliation (וּבֹשֶׁת), refers to when they shame the Shekhinta (דַּהֲווֹ מְבַזִּין לִשְׁכִינְתָּא) through stars and constellations (בְּכּוֹכָבִים וּמַזָּלוֹת), their falsehood (שִׁקְרָא דִּלְהוֹן), saying, "Where is your God?" (וַהֲווּ אַמְרִין אַיֵּה אֱלֹהֶיךָ). And numerous thefts by the evil handmaid (וְכַמָּה גְּזֵלוֹת מִן שִׁפְחָה בִּישָׁא), about whom it is said (דְּאִתְּמַר בָּהּ), "The plunder of the poor is in your houses" (גְּזֵלַת הֶעָנִי בְּבָתֵּיכֶם) (Isaiah 3).
Many blessings (כַּמָּה בִּרְכָּאן) the evil handmaid has stolen from the Shekhinta (גַּזְלַת לִשְׁכִינְתָּא שִׁפְחָא בִּישָׁא), through heavy taxation (בְּכוֹבֶד הַמַּס), and by imposing harsh and strange judgments upon Her children (וּבְכוֹבֶד כַּמָּה דִּינִין מְשׁוּנִים עַל בְּנָהָא). And how many Temple sacrifices (וְכַמָּה קָרְבְּנִין דְּבֵי מַקְדְּשָׁא), that have ceased for the Matronita (דִּבְטִילַת לְמַטְרוֹנִיתָא). And the humiliation of the Matronita (וּבֹשֶׁת דְּמַטְרוֹנִיתָא), left naked (דְּאִשְׁתְּאָרַת עֲרוּמָה), stripped of the four radiant golden garments (מֵד׳ בִּגְדֵי זָהָב דְּנָהֲרִין), the four rows of precious stones (מֵד׳ טוּרֵי אָבֶן), and the twelve jewel-stones (בְּי״ב אֲבָנִין מַרְגְּלָן). The robe with numerous bells and pomegranates (מְעִיל בְּכַמָּה זָגִין וְרִמּוֹנִים). And the four white garments (וְאַרְבַּע בִּגְדֵי לָבָן), with which the Matronita adorned Herself before the King (דִּבְּהוֹן הֲוַת מַטְרוֹנִיתָא מִתְקַשְּׁטָא קֳדָם מַלְכָּא). As it is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב), "I will see it to remember the eternal covenant" (וּרְאִיתִיהָ לִזְכֹּר בְּרִית עוֹלָם) (Bereshit 9). She has robbed from Her mistress (וְגָזְלַת לָהּ לִגְּבִרְתָּהּ) numerous sacrificial offerings (כַּמָּה מַאֲכָלִין דְּקָרְבְּנִין).
