Daf 72a (דַּף ע״ב ע״א)

Three large upper creases appear on his forehead when he speaks (תְּלַת קְמִיטִין עִלָּאִין רַבְרְבִין בְּמִצְחֵיהּ בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּאִיהוּ מַלִּיל). Three creases near one eye (תְּלַת קְמִיטִין קָרִיב לְעֵינָא חַד), and three creases above the other eye (וּתְלַת קְמִיטִין עַל עֵינָא אַחֲרָא). He weeps when he becomes angered (בָּכֵי בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּאַרְגִּיז).

This is better than he appears to be (דָּא אִיהוּ טָב יַתִּיר מִכַּמָּה דְּאִתְחָזֵי). He casts behind his shoulders all worldly matters (אַרְמִי בָּתַר כִּתְפוֹי כָּל מִלִּין דְּעָלְמָא), both in deeds and in other things (בֵּין בְּעוֹבָדוֹי, בֵּין בְּמִלִּין אַחֲרָנִין), and he does not care (וְלָא חָיִישׁ). He succeeds in Orayta (אַצְלַח בְּאוֹרַיְּיתָא). Any man who engages with him succeeds more in spiritual matters than in worldly ones (כָּל בַּר נָשׁ דְּיִשְׁתְּדַל בַּהֲדֵיהּ יַתִּיר מִמִּלִּין אַחֲרָנִין דְּעָלְמָא).

At times his will cleaves to Kudsha Berikh Hu (לְזִמְנִין אִתְדְּבָק רְעִוּתֵיהּ בְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and at times not (וּלְזִמְנִין לָא). In judgment, he does not succeed (בְּדִינָא לָא אַצְלַח). He distances himself from judgment (אִתְרְחַק אִיהוּ מִן דִּינָא). And this is the Secret of the letter Nun on its own (וְרָזָא דָּא אָת נ׳ בִּלְחוֹדוֹי), which is not included in the Zayin (דְּלָא אִתְכְּלִילַת בְּאָת ז׳). And because it is not included in the Zayin (וּבְגִין דְּלָא אִתְכְּלִילַת בְּאָת ז׳), he is distant from judgment (אִתְרְחַק מִן דִּינָא), and it does not endure in him (וְלָא קָאִים בֵּיהּ), and love is his side (וּרְחִימוּתָא אִיהוּ סִטְרָא דִּילֵיהּ).

A forehead that is without curvature, and is large (מִצְחָא דְּאִיהוּ בְּלָא עִגּוּלָא, וְאִיהוּ רַבְרְבָא) this is a man who, whenever he stands or walks (הַאי אִיהוּ בַּר נָשׁ דְּכָל זִמְנִין כַּד קָאִים, וְכַד אָזִיל), he lowers his head (כָּפִיף רֵישֵׁיהּ). This one is split in two directions (הַאי אִתְפְּלִיג לִתְרֵין לְסִטְרִין), and those are sides of madness (וְאִינּוּן סִטְרֵי שִׁגְעוֹנָא). One side is a madness that is visible (סִטְרָא חֲדָא אִיהוּ שִׁגְעוֹנָא דְּאִתְחָזֵי), and other people recognize his madness (וּבְנֵי נָשָׁא אַחֲרָנִין יַדְעִין שִׁגְעוֹנָא), because it is evident before all (דְּאִשְׁתְּמוֹדְעָא קַמֵי כֹּלָּא). And he is a fool (וְאִיהוּ טִפְּשָׁא).

On his forehead are four broad furrows (בְּמִצְחֵיהּ אִית ד׳ קְמִיטִין רַבְרְבִין). At times, when he speaks, they contract upon his forehead (לְזִמְנִין בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּמַלִּיל קָמִיט לוֹן בְּמִצְחֵיהּ), and at times when his forehead relaxes in its skin (וּלְזִמְנִין דְּאִתְפְּשַׁט מִצְחֵיהּ בְּמַשְׁכֵיהּ), they are not seen (וְלָא אִתְחָזוּן). Those furrows appear (אִינּוּן קְמִיטִין אִתְחָזוּן), along with other large furrows on the sides of his eyes (קְמִיטִין אַחֲרָנִין רַבְרְבִין בְּסִטְרָא דְּעֵינוֹי). He laughs without cause (חַיִּיךְ לְמַגָּנָא). His mouth is large (פּוּמֵיהּ רַבְרְבָא). He is not a man of benefit (לָאו אִיהוּ בַּר נָשׁ לְתוֹעַלְתָּא). He is of a different side (סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא אִיהוּ). A madness is concealed within him (שִׁגְעוֹנָא דְּאִתְכַּסֵּי בֵּיהּ), and people do not perceive it (וּבְנֵי נָשָׁא לָא מִסְתַּכְּלָן בֵּיהּ).

He appears learned in what he has exerted himself to study (וְאִיהוּ אִתְחַכָּם בְּמָה דְּאִשְׁתַּדַּל), even in Orayta (וַאֲפִילּוּ בְּאוֹרַיְּיתָא), but not for its own sake (אֲבָל לָא לִשְׁמָהּ), rather to boast before the people (אֶלָּא בְּגִין לְאִתְגָּאָה בִּפְנֵי עַמָּא). And all is done in secret and with pride of heart (וְכֹלָּא בִּלְחִישׁוּ וּבְגַאֲוַת לִבָּא), to appear as though he is meritorious (לְאַחֲזָאָה דְּאִיהוּ זַכָּאָה), though he is not (וְלָא הָכִי). All his words are not for the Name of Kudsha Berikh Hu (כָּל מִלּוֹי לָאו אִינּוּן לִשְׁמָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), but for the sake of men (אֶלָּא בְּגִין בְּנֵי נָשָׁא). He contemplates strategies (וְחָשִׁיב מַחֲשָׁבִין), and conducts himself (וְאַנְהִיג גַּרְמֵיהּ), in the manner of the outside world (כְּמִנְהָגָא דִּלְבַר), that people should look at him (דְּיִסְתַּכְּלוּן בֵּיהּ). This one is in the Secret of the letter Nun (הַאי אִיהוּ בְּרָזָא דְּאָת נ׳), which is within the generality of the letter Zayin (דִּי בִּכְלָלָא דְּאָת ז׳).
