On the last night of the festival (בְּלֵילְיָא בַּתְרָאָה דְּחַגָּא), when decrees go forth from the house of the King (דְּקָא נַפְקָן פִּתְקִין מִבֵּי מַלְכָּא), and that shadow is removed from the baseborn of this world (וְהַהוּא צֵל אַעְדִּיאוּ מִבְּנֵי גְּרִיעוּ דְּהַאי עָלְמָא), that Nefesh of which we spoke goes and wanders (הַהוּא נֶפֶשׁ דְּקַאמָרָן, אַזְלָא וּמְשַׁטְּטָא), And one appointed officer, Sarka, in the mystery engraved in a ring in explicit writing, Yedomi‘am (וְחַד מְמָנָא סָרְכָא, בְּרָזָא גְּלִיפָא בְּעִזְקָא בִּכְתַב מְפֹרָשׁ, יְדוּמִיעָ״ם), who is appointed with a script of radiant engraving, and within supernal visions (דְּפָקִיד בִּכְתַב דְּזִיוָא גְּלִיפָא, וּבְגוֹ חִזְוָון עִלָּאִין).

On that night he descends (בְּהַהוּא לֵילְיָא נָחִית), and thousands upon thousands and ten-thousands upon ten-thousands are with him (וְכַמָּה אֶלֶף אַלְפִין וְרִבּוֹא רִבְוָון עִמֵּיהּ), and they take that shadow from each and every one, and they raise it above (וְנַטְלִין לְהַהוּא צֵל מִכָּל חַד וְחַד, וְסַלְּקִין, לֵיהּ לְעֵילָּא). And that Nefesh of which we spoke goes and wanders (וְהַהִיא נֶפֶשׁ דְּקַאמָרָן, אַזְלָא וּמְשַׁטְּטָא), and it sees that shadow (וְחָמָאת לְהַהוּא צֵל), and it returns to its place in the grave (וְתָב לְאַתְרֵיהּ גּוֹ קִבְרָא), and it proclaims to the other dead: So-and-so comes to us, so-and-so comes to us (וְקָא מַכְרֶזֶת לִשְׁאַר מֵתַיָּיא, פְּלוֹנִי אָתֵי לְגַבָּן, פְּלוֹנִי אָתֵי לְגַבָּן).

If he is meritorious and good, all rejoice But if not, all say “Woe!” When that shadow ascends, they bring it before that faithful servant, whose name is Metatron (כַּד סַלְּקִין הַהוּא צֵל, סַלְּקִין לֵיהּ לְגַבֵּי הַהוּא עֶבֶד מְהֵימָן, דִּשְׁמֵיהּ מְטַטְרוֹ״ן), and he takes that shadow to himself, and raises it to its place (וְנָטִיל הַהוּא צֵל לְגַבֵּיהּ, וְסַלִיק לֵיהּ לְאַתְרִיהּ), as it is written: As a servant longs for the shadow (כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר, כְּעֶבֶד יִשְׁאַף צֵל), indeed, he longs for the shadow (יִשְׁאַף צֵל וַדַּאי) (Job 7).

From that moment onward, a place is prepared for the Neshamah of that person (מֵהַהִיא שַׁעֲתָא וְאֵילָךְ, מְתַתְקְנָא דּוּכְתָּא לְהַהִיא נְשָׁמָה דְּהַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ), and a place for the Ruach in the Garden of Eden (וְדוּכְתָּא לְרוּחַ בְּגִּנְתָּא דְּעֵדֶן), and a place for the Nefesh for rest and enjoyment when it goes and wanders (וְדוּכְתָּא לְנֶפֶשׁ לְנַיְיחָא וּלְאִתְהֲנָאָה, בְּשַׁעֲתָא דִּמְשַׁטְּטָא וְאַזְלָא). For there is a Nefesh that has no rest (בְּגִין דְּאִית נֶפֶשׁ דְּלֵית לָהּ נַיְיחָא), and there is a Nefesh that is bound with the body (וְאִית נֶפֶשׁ דְּאִישְׁתְּצִיאַת עִם גּוּפָא). And this one that has no rest (וְהַאי אִיהִי דְּלֵית לָהּ נַיְיחָא) - this is that which is written: And the soul of your enemies He shall sling out in the hollow of the sling (וְהַאי אִיהִי דִּכְתִּיב בָּהּ, וְאֶת נֶפֶשׁ אוֹיְבֶיךָ יְקַלְעֶנָּה בְּתוֹךְ כַּף הַקָּלַע) (I Shmuel 25).

This one goes and wanders and rolls through all the world (דְּדָא אִיהִי אַזְלָא וּמְשַׁטְּטָא וּמִתְגַּלְגְּלָא בְּכָל עָלְמָא), and it has no rest at all, day or night (וְלֵית לָהּ נַיְיחָא כְּלַל יְמָמָא וְלֵילֵי), and this is a punishment greater than all (וְדָא אִיהוּ עוֹנְשָׁא יַתִּיר מִכֹּלָּא). And that one which is bound with the body - this is that which is written: And I shall cut it off from among its people (Vayikra 17) - and this one has no remembrance at all And there is a Nefesh that is not bound with the body (וְאִית נפשא דְּלָא תִּשְׁתְּצֵי עִם גּוּפָא), but bound from another place, above (וְתִשְׁתְּצֵי מֵאֲתָר אַחֲרָא, ס״א עִלָּאָה) - this is that which is written: And that soul shall be cut off from before Me, I am Hashem (הַהִיא דִּכְתִּיב בָּהּ, וְנִכְרְתָה הַנֶּפֶשׁ הַהִיא מִלְּפָנַי אֲנִי יְיָ') (Vayikra 22). Who is “from before Me”? One upon whom no Ruach rests (מַאן מִלְּפָנַי. And when the Ruach does not rest upon it, it has no share at all in that which is above (וְכַד רוּחָא לָא שַׁרְיָא עָלָהּ, לֵית לָהּ שׁוּתָּפוּ כְּלַל בְּמָה דִּלְעֵילָּא), and it knows nothing of the matters of that world (וְלָא יַדְעַת מֵאִינּוּן מִלִּין דְּהַהוּא עָלְמָא כְּלַל). And this is a Nefesh like the beasts

The Nefesh that has no rest (נֶפֶשׁ דְּלֵית לָהּ נַיְיחָא), this one, when it goes and wanders (הַאי אִיהִי כַּד אַזְלָא וּמְשַׁטְּטָא), it is encountered by that appointed Yedumiam and his officers (אִעֲרְעַת בְּהַאי מְמַנָא יְדוּמִיעָ״ם, וּבְאִינּוּן סַרְכִין דִּילֵיהּ), and they take it and bring it through all the gates of the Garden of Eden (וְנַטְלִין לָהּ, וְאָעלִין לָהּ בְּכָל פִּתְחֵי גַּן עֵדֶן), and they show it the glory of the Tzaddikim, and the glory of its Ruach (וְאַחְזְיָין לָהּ יְקָרָא דְּצַדִּיקַיָּא, וִיקָרָא דְּהַהוּא רוּחַ דִּילָהּ). And it cleaves to it with rest, within that garment, and then it knows the matters of that world And when that Ruach ascends to be crowned within the supernal Neshamah above (וְכַד הַהוּא רוּחַ סַלְּקָא לְאִתְעַטְּרָא גּוֹ נְשָׁמָה עִלָּאָה לְעֵילָּא), that Nefesh is bound with that Ruach and is illuminated from it, like the Moon when it is illuminated from the Sun (הַהִיא נֶפֶשׁ מִתְקַשְּׁרָא בְּהַהוּא רוּחַ, וְאִתְנְהִירַת מִנֵּיהּ, כְּסִיהֲרָא כַּד אִתְנְהִירַת מִשִׁמְּשָׁא). And the Ruach is bound within that Neshamah

And that Neshamah is bound within the end of Thought, which is the mystery of the supernal Nefesh And that Nefesh is bound within that supernal Ruach (וְהַהִיא נֶפֶשׁ, אִתְקָשָּׁרַת גּוֹ הַהוּא רוּחַ עִלָּאָה), and that Ruach is bound within that supernal Neshamah (וְהַהוּא רוּחַ אִתְקָשָּׁר גּוֹ הַהִיא נְשָׁמָה עִלָּאָה). And that Neshamah is bound within Ein Sof And then it is the rest of all, and the bond of all, above and below, all in one mystery, and one likeness And then this is the rest of the Nefesh below And concerning this it is written: And the soul of my master shall be bound in the bundle of life with Hashem your God (I Shmuel 25). In one likeness and one mystery, that “Et” - this corresponding to that

When the Moon descends - the mystery of the supernal Nefesh - light from every side It gives light to all chariots and camps, and makes them one complete body, which shines with radiance in supernal splendor So too, in this manner, this lower Nefesh descends, shining from every side, from the light of the Neshamah and from the light of the Ruach (אוּף הָכִי כְּגַוְונָא דָּא, נַחְתָּא הַאי נֶפֶשׁ תַּתָּאָה, נְהִירָא מִכָּל סִטְרִין מִגּוֹ נְהִירוּ דְּנְשָׁמָה, וּמִגּוֹ נְהִירוּ דְּרוּחַ), and it descends and flows to all those chariots and camps, which are limbs and bones, and makes them a complete body, which shines with radiance (וְנַחְתָּא וְנַהֲרָא לְכָל אִינּוּן רְתִיכִין וּמַשִּׁרְיָין, דְּאִינּוּן שַׁיְיפִין וְגַרְמִין, וְעָבִיד לוֹן גּוּפָא שְׁלֵימָא, דְּנָהִיר בִּנְהִירוּ). This is what is written: And He shall satisfy your soul in dry places - your very soul - and afterwards He shall strengthen your bones (Isaiah 58), for He makes of them one complete body, shining with radiance, and it rises to give thanks and praise to Kudsha Berikh Hu (דְּעָבִיד מִנַּיְיהוּ גּוּפָא שְׁלֵימָא, וְנָהִיר בִּנְהִירוּ, וְקָם וְאוֹדֵי וּמְשַׁבַּח לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), as it is said: All my bones shall say: Hashem, who is like You (כְּמָה דְּאִתְּמַר דִּכְתִּיב, כָּל עַצְמוֹתַי תֹּאמַרְנָה יְיָ' מִי כָמוֹךָ) (Tehillim 35). And this is the true rest of the Nefesh from every side
