And there the prayer is detained (וְתַמָּן אִתְעַכָּבַת צְלוֹתָא), until all the legions ascend with it into that fifth firmament (עַד דְּכֻלְּהוּ מַשִּׁרְיָין סַלְּקִין עִמָּהּ לְגוֹ הַהוּא רְקִיעָא חֲמִישָׁאָה). And there is one appointed one, whose name is Gadri’el (וְתַמָּן אִיהוּ מְמָנָא חַד גַּדְרִי״אֵל שְׁמֵיהּ), and he is master over the armies of the rest of the nations (וְהוּא מָארֵי קְרָבִין דִּשְׁאַר עַמִּין). And when the prayer ascends (וְכַד צְלוֹתָא סַלְּקָא), then he and all his legions are shaken (כְּדֵין אִזְדַּעְזָע הוּא, וְכָל מַשִּׁרְיָין דִּילֵיהּ), and their forces are broken (וְאִתְבַּר חֵילַיְיהוּ), and they go out and bow (וְנַפְקֵי וְסַגְדֵּי), and crown that prayer (וּמְעַטְּרִין לְהַהִיא צְלוֹתָא).

And they ascend with it until they reach the sixth firmament (וְסַלְּקִין עִמָּהּ עַד דְּמָטוּ לְגַבֵּי רְקִיעָא שְׁתִּיתָאָה), and then many hosts and many legions go out (וּכְדֵין נָפְקִין כַּמָה חַיָּילִין, וְכַמָּה מַשִּׁרְיָין), and receive that prayer (וּמְקַבְּלִין לְהַהוּא צְלוֹתָא), and ascend with it (וְסַלְּקִין בַּהֲדָהּ), until they reach seventy gates (עַד דְּמָטוּ לְשִׁבְעִין תַּרְעִין), and there stands one appointed one, whose name is Anfi’el (דְּתַמָּן קָאִים חַד מְמָנָא, דִּי שְׁמֵיהּ עַנְפִי״אֵל), a great appointed one (רַב מְמָנָא). And he crowns that prayer with seventy crowns

And once the prayer is crowned with all these crowns (וְכֵיוָן דְּמִתְעַטְּרָא צְלוֹתָא בְּכָל הָנֵי עִטְרִין), then all the hosts of all the firmaments are joined (כְּדֵין מִתְחַבְּרָן כָּל אִינּוּן חַיָּילִין דְּכֻלְּהוּ רְקִיעִין), and they ascend that prayer, which is crowned with all the crowns (וְסַלְּקִין לְהַהִיא צְלוֹתָא דְּמִתְעַטְּרָא בְּכָל עִטְרִין), to the seventh firmament (לְגַבֵּי רְקִיעָא שְׁבִיעָאָה). And then the prayer enters (וּכְדֵין עָאלַת צְלוֹתָא), and Sandalfon, the supernal, precious master (וְסַנְדַּלְפוֹ״ן רַב יַקִּירָא עִלָּאָה), in whose hand are all the keys of his Master (דְּכָל מַפְתְּחָן דְּמָארֵיהּ בִּידֵיהּ), brings in that prayer (אָעִיל לְהַהוּא צְלוֹתָא), into the seven palaces (לְגוֹ שִׁבְעָה הֵיכָלִין).

Come and see: Rabbi Shimon said, “Seven dwellings are they…” etc. These seven palaces are the palaces of the King (שִׁבְעָה הֵיכָלִין אִלֵּין, אִינּוּן הֵיכָלִין דְּמַלְכָּא), and when this prayer is crowned with all these crowns (וְהַאי צְלוֹתָא כַּד מִתְעַטְּרָא בְּכָל הָנִי עִטְרִין), when it enters (כַּד עָאלַת), it unites them all together (מְחַבָּר לוֹן כַּחֲדָא), to be crowned above, to become entirely one as is proper (לְאִתְעַטְּרָא לְעֵילָּא לְמֶהוֵי כֹּלָּא חַד כְּדְקָא יֵאוֹת). And the Name of Kudsha Berikh Hu is crowned with all the crowns, above and below (וּשְׁמָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, מִתְעַטְּרָא בְּכָל עִטְרִין, עֵילָּא וְתַתָּא), to be One (לְמֶהוֵי חַד). And then it is written: “Blessings are upon the head…” “Of the righteous” p1-1(צַדִּיק כְּתִיב).

Fortunate is the portion of the person who knows how to arrange his prayer properly In this prayer in which Kudsha Berikh Hu is crowned He waits until all the prayers of Yisrael are completed And then all is in complete perfection above and below Until here are the words of prayer, to know supernal mysteries From here onward are the commandments of the Orayta (מִכָּאן וּלְהָלְאָה אִית פִּקּוּדֵי אוֹרַיְּיתָא), which are fulfilled in word, just as they are fulfilled in action (דְּאִינּוּן קַיְּימִין בְּמִלָּה, כְּמָה דְּקַיְימִין בְּעוֹבָדָא). And there are six commandments, and they are fulfilled also here in prayer

First: “To fear the glorious and awesome Name” (Deuteronomy 28) Second: “To love Him” (תִּנְיָינָא: לְאַהֲבָה אוֹתוֹ). Third: “To bless Him” (תְּלִיתָאָה: לְבָרְכוֹ). Fourth: “To unify Him” (רְבִיעָאָה: לְיַחֲדוֹ). Fifth: “To bless the priests who bless the people” (חֲמִישָׁאָה: לְבָרֵךְ כַּהֲנָא יַת עַמָּא). Sixth: “To surrender one’s soul to Him” (שְׁתִיתָאָה: לִמְסוֹר נִשְׁמָתֵיהּ לֵיהּ).

And these six commandments that are fulfilled in the spoken prayer (וְאִלֵּין שִׁית פִּקוּדִין דְּקַיְימִין בִּצְלוֹתָא דְּמִלָּה), are aside from those commandments fulfilled in action (בַּר אִינּוּן פִּקוּדִין דְּקַיְימִין בְּעוֹבָדָא), like tzitzit and tefillin (כְּגַוְונָא דְּצִיצִית וּתְפִלִין). “To fear the Name”—this commandment is fulfilled in the praises spoken by King David (לְיִרְאָה אֶת הַשֵּׁם, פִּקּוּדָא דָּא קַיְּימָא בְּאִלֵּין תּוּשְׁבְּחָן דְּקָאָמַר דָּוִד מַלְכָּא), and in the offerings of the Orayta (וּבְאִינּוּן קָרְבָּנִין דְּאוֹרַיְּיתָא), where a person must tremble before his Master (דְּתַמָּן בָּעֵי בַּר נָשׁ לְדַחֲלָא מִקַּמֵּי מָארֵיהּ), because those songs exist in that place called Fear (בְּגִין דְּאִינּוּן שִׁירִין קַיְּימִין בְּהַהוּא אֲתָר דְּאִקְרֵי יִרְאָה). And all those Halleluyah psalms (וְכָל אִינּוּן הַלְלוּיָהּ), they are the secret of the Fear of Kudsha Berikh Hu (דְּאִינּוּן רָזָא דְּיִרְאָה דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא).

And a person must align his will in those songs with awe (וּבָעֵי בַּר נָשׁ לְשַׁוָּאָה רְעוּתֵיהּ בְּאִינּוּן שִׁירִין בְּיִרְאָה), and the companions have established it (וְאוּקְמוּהָ חַבְרַיָּיא), all those secrets of the songs and praises (כָּל אִינּוּן רָזִין דְּשִׁירִין וְתוּשְׁבְּחָן), and all those secrets of Halleluyah (וְכָל אִינּוּן רָזִין דְּהַלְלוּיָהּ). When a person reaches Yishtabach (כֵּיוָן דְּמָטֵי בַּר נָשׁ לְיִשְׁתַּבַּח), he should align his will to bless Kudsha Berikh Hu (יְשַׁוֵּי רְעוּתֵיהּ לְבָרְכָא לֵיהּ לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), like 'Former of Light' [Yotzer Or] and 'Former of the Luminaries' [Yotzer ha-Me'orot] (כְּגוֹן יוֹצֵר אוֹר, יוֹצֵר הַמְּאוֹרוֹת). To love Him—when one reaches Ahavat Olam (לְאַהֲבָה אוֹתוֹ, כַּד מָטֵי לְאַהֲבַת עוֹלָם): “And you shall love Hashem your God” (Deuteronomy 6) (וְאָהַבְתָּ אֶת יְיָ' אֱלֹהֶיךָ) —this is the secret of the love of Kudsha Berikh Hu (דְּדָא אִיהוּ רָזָא דִּרְחִימוּ דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and this has already been established (וְהָא אוּקְמוּהָ).

To unify Him—Shema Yisrael, Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad (לְיַחֲדָא לֵיהּ: שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְיָ' אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְיָ' אֶחָד)—here resides the secret of the unification of Kudsha Berikh Hu (דְּהָכָא קַיְּימָא רָזָא דְּיִחוּדָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), to unify His Name with the will of the heart, as is fitting (לְיַחֲדָא שְׁמֵיהּ בִּרְעוּתָא דְּלִבָּא כַּדְקָא חֲזֵי). And from there onward, the remembrance of the Exodus from Egypt (וּמִתַּמָּן וּלְהָלְאָה אַדְכָּרוּתָא דִּיצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם), which is the command to recall the Exodus, as it is written: “And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt” (Deuteronomy 5) (דְּאִיהוּ פִּקּוּדָא לְאַדְכְּרָא יְצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם דִּכְתִּיב: וְזָכַרְתָּ כִּי עֶבֶד הָיִיתָ בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם). To bless the priests over the people (לְבָרְכָא כַּהֲנָא יַת עַמָּא), to include Yisrael as one (בְּגִין לְאַכְלְלָא יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּחֲדָא), at the moment when they receive blessing from above (בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּנַטְלִין בִּרְכָאן לְעֵילָּא), for at that moment Knesset Yisrael receives blessing (דְּהָא בְּהַהִיא שַׁעֲתָא נַטְלָא כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל בִּרְכָאן).

And that is a time of will—to surrender one's soul to Him (וְשַׁעֲתָא דִּרְעוּתָא הוּא, לִמְסוֹר נַפְשֵׁיהּ לְגַבֵּיהּ), and to give Him one’s soul with the will of the heart (וּלְמֵיהַב לֵיהּ נִשְׁמְתָא בִּרְעוּתָא דְּלִבָּא), when they fall on their faces and say: “To You, Hashem, I lift my soul” (Psalms 25) (כַּד נַפְלִין עַל אַנְפִּין, וְאָמְרִין: אֵלֶיךָ יְיָ' נַפְשִׁי אֶשָּׂא), to direct his heart and will toward Him (דִּיכַוֵּין לִבֵּיהּ וּרְעוּתֵיהּ לְגַבֵּיהּ), to surrender the soul to Him with a complete will (לְמִמְסַר לֵיהּ נַפְשָׁא בִּרְעוּתָא שְׁלִים). And these are the six commandments that are fulfilled in prayer (וְאִלֵּין אִינּוּן שִׁית פִּקוּדִין דְּקַיְימִין בִּצְלוֹתָא), which ascend to the six hundred commandments of the Orayta (דְּסַלְּקִין לְגַבֵּי שִׁית מֵאָה פִּקוּדִין דְּאוֹרַיְּיתָא). And if you say, there are thirteen more (וְאִי תֵּימָא תְּלֵיסָר אַחֲרָנִין יַתִּיר), those exist to draw down the thirteen channels of mercy (אִינּוּן קַיְימִין לְאַמְשָׁכָא תְּלֵיסָר מְכִילָן דְּרַחֲמֵי), in which all things are contained (דְּכֹלָּא כְּלִילָן בְּהוּ) — some say: in these (ס״א: בְּהָנִי) six commandments, with which the prayer is crowned (שִׁית פִּקוּדִין אִלֵּין, דִּצְלוֹתָא מִתְעַטְּרָא בְּהוּ).
