Daf 205b (דַּף ר״ה ע״ב)

This day is a day of souls, not a day of body (הַאי יוֹמָא, יוֹמָא דְּנִשְׁמָתִין אִיהוּ, וְלָאו יוֹמָא דְּגוּפָא), because the dominion is of the bundle of souls (בְּגִין דְּשֻׁלְטָנוּ דִּצְרוֹרָא דְּנִשְׁמָתִין אִיהוּ), and the supernal and lower ones all stand in one Zivug (וְקַיְימָן עִלָּאִין וְתַתָּאִין כֻּלְּהוּ בְּזִוּוּגָא חֲדָא), in the crown of the supernal holy extra spirit (בְּעִטְרָא דְּרוּחָא יְתֵירָא עִלָּאָה קַדִּישָׁא). The prayer of Shabbat of the holy people consists of three prayers on this day (צְלוֹתָא דְּשַׁבְּתָא, דְּעַמָּא קַדִּישָׁא, תְּלַת צְלוֹתִין אִשְׁתְּכָחוּ בְּהַאי יוֹמָא), corresponding to three Shabbatot (לָקֳבֵל תְּלַת שַׁבָּתֵי), and it has been established (וְאוּקְמוּהָ), and all are one (וְכֻלְּהוּ חַד). Once the holy people enter the synagogue (כֵּיוָן דְּעָאלוּ עַמָּא קַדִּישָׁא לְבֵי כְּנִישְׁתָּא), it is forbidden to occupy oneself even with the needs of the synagogue (אָסִיר לְאִשְׁתַּדְּלָא אֲפִילּוּ בְּצוֹרֶךְ בֵּי כְּנִישְׁתָּא), except in words of praise and prayer (אֶלָּא בְּמִלֵּי תּוּשְׁבְּחָן וּצְלוֹתָא), and Orayta, as is fitting for them (וְאוֹרַיְיתָא, וְכַדְקָא חֲזֵי לוֹן). And one who occupies himself with other words, with worldly matters (וּמַאן דְּאִשְׁתָּדַּל בְּמִלִּין אַחֲרָנִין, וּבְמִלִּין דְּעָלְמָא), this is one who desecrates Shabbat (דָּא אִיהוּ בַּר נָשׁ דְּקָא מְחַלֵּל שַׁבְּתָא), and he has no portion in the nation of Yisrael (לֵית לֵיהּ חוּלָקָא בְּעַמָּא דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל).

Two angels are appointed over this (תְּרֵין מַלְאֲכִין מְמָנָן עַל דָּא), on the day of Shabbat (בְּיוֹמָא דְּשַׁבְּתָא), and they place their hands on his head (וְאִינּוּן שַׁווּ יְדֵיהוֹן עַל רֵישֵׁיהּ) and say (וְאַמְרֵי): “Woe to so-and-so, who has no portion in Kudsha Berikh Hu” (וַוי לִפְלַנְיָּא, דְּלֵית לֵיהּ חוּלָקָא בְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא).

Therefore one must engage in prayer and songs and praises of their Master (וְעַל דָּא, בָּעֵי לְאִשְׁתַּדְּלָא בִּצְלוֹתָא וּבְשִׁירִין וּבְתוּשְׁבְּחָן דְּמָארֵיהוֹן), and to engage in Orayta (וּלְאִשְׁתַּדְּלָא בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא). This day is a day of souls (הַאי יוֹמָא, אִיהוּ יוֹמָא דְּנִשְׁמָתִין), for that bundle of souls is crowned (דְּאִתְעַטְּרָא הַהוּא צְרוֹרָא דְּנִשְׁמָתִין). In the praises of their Master (בְּתוּשְׁבְּחָן דְּמָארֵיהוֹן), therefore they praise with the soul’s praise (בְּגִין כָּךְ מְשַׁבְּחֵי בְּתוּשְׁבְּחָן תֻּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דְּנִשְׁמְתָא), and this is: “The soul of every living thing shall bless Your Name, Hashem our God; and the spirit of all flesh…” And there is no praise except on the side of soul and spirit (וְלֵית תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא אֶלָּא בְּסִטְרָא דְּנִשְׁמְתָא וְרוּחָא), and this day is established in spirit and soul (וְהַאי יוֹמָא, קַיְּימָא בְּרוּחָא וְנִשְׁמְתָא), and not of body (וְלָאו דְּגוּפָא). A praise from a higher supernal level (תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דְּדַרְגָא אַחֲרָא עִלָּאָה), the mystery of the day (רָזָא דְּיוֹמָא), the holy sun, which is the light of the day (שִׁמְשָׁא קַדִּישָׁא דְּאִיהוּ נְהוֹרָא דִּימָמָא), this is “Yotzer Or [Who forms light]” (הַיְינוּ יוֹצֵר אוֹר).

The mystery of the light that shines (רָזָא דִּנְהוֹרָא דְּנָהִיר), from which all the forces, chariots, stars, constellations shine and are nourished (דְּמִנֵּיהּ אִתְזְנָן וְנָהֲרִין כָּל אִינּוּן חַיָּילִין, רְתִיכִין, וְכֹכָבַיָּא וּמַזָּלֵי), and all those who rule over the world (וְכָל אִינּוּן דְּשַׁלְטִין עַל עָלְמָא). The praise of the World to Come on this day (תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דְּעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי בְּיוֹמָא דָּא), is “El Adon” (הַיְינוּ אֵל אָדוֹן). And this praise (וְתוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דָּא), is in the mystery of the twenty-two supernal holy letters (אִיהוּ בְּרָזָא דְּעֶשְׂרִין וּתְרֵין אַתְוָון עִלָּאִין קַדִּישִׁין), which are crowned in the Patriarchs and in the supernal holy chariot (דְּמִתְעַטְּרָן בַּאֲבָהָן וּבִרְתִיכָא עִלָּאָה קַדִּישָׁא).

The small letters are these twenty-two letters (אַתְוָון זְעִירִין, אִינּוּן עֶשְׂרִין וּתְרֵין אַתְוָון), which are in the lower world (דְּאִינּוּן בְּעָלְמָא תַּתָּאָה), which are: “El, Baruch, Gadol, De’ah…” (דְּאִינּוּן אֵל בָּרוּךְ גְּדוֹל דֵּעָה וְכוּ'), and between word and word there is no space (וְלָא אִית בֵּין תֵּיבָה לַתֵּיבָה, רְוָוחָא אַחֲרָא), only a mark is inscribed in each word (אֶלָּא אָת רְשִׁימָא בְּכָל תֵּיבָה וְתֵיבָה). And in the upper world there is space (וּבְעָלְמָא עִלָּאָה, אִית רְוָוחָא), and holy sides between each letter (וְסִטְרִין קַדִּישִׁין, בֵּין אָת לְאָת). And this is praise upon praise (וְדָא אִיהוּ, תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא עַל תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא), of the supernal letters of the seventh day (דְּאַתְוָון עִלָּאִין דְּיוֹמָא שְׁבִיעָאָה), which praise and say to the supernal King 'Former of the Beginning' [Yotzer Bereshit] (קָא מְשַׁבַּח וְאָמַר לְמַלְכָּא עִלָּאָה יוֹצֵר בְּרֵאשִׁית).

When this praise rises above (כַּד תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דָּא סַלְּקָא לְעֵילָּא), the sixty supernal chariots that we spoke of (שִׁתִין רְתִיכִין עִלָּאִין דְּקָאָמַרָן), are prepared and take this praise from the holy people (מִזְדַּמְּנִין וְנַטְלֵי לְהַאי תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא מֵעַמָּא קַדִּישָׁא), and bring it up to crown it with many supernal chariots that are appointed (וְסַלְקֵי לָהּ לְאִתְעַטְּרָא בָּהּ, בְּכַמָּה רְתִיכִין עִלָּאִין, דִּי מְמָנָן), and all the Righteous in the Garden of Eden (וְכָל אִינּוּן צַדִּיקַיָּא דִּבְגִנְתָּא דְּעֵדֶן), all are crowned in this praise (כֻּלְּהוּ מִתְעַטְּרִן בְּתוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דָּא), and all those chariots and all the souls of the Righteous, all ascend in this praise (וְכָל אִינּוּן רְתִיכִין, וְכָל אִינּוּן נִשְׁמָתִין דְּצַדִּיקַיָּיא, כֻּלְּהוּ סַלְּקִין בְּתוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דָּא), up to the mystery of the Throne (עַד רָזָא דְּכוּרְסְיָּיא).

When it reaches the holy Throne (כַּד מָטָא לְכוּרְסְיָיא קַדִּישָׁא), this praise of all Yisrael stands there (תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא דָּא דְּכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל, קַיְּימָא תַּמָּן), until the time when the supernal Kedushah of Musaf is said (עַד זִמְנָא דְּקַאמְרֵי קְדוּשָּׁה עִלָּאָה דְּמוּסָף). And then, the ascent from below to above takes place (וּכְדֵין סִלּוּקָא דִּלְתַתָּא לְעֵילָּא), to unify everything above upon above (לְאִתְאַחֲדָא כֹּלָּא לְעֵילָּא לְעֵילָּא), to become all one (לְמֶהֱוֵי כֹּלָּא חַד). This is the praise that ascends above all praises (דָּא אִיהִי תּוּשְׁבַּחְתָּא, דְּסַלְּקָא עַל כֻּלְּהוּ תּוּשְׁבְּחָן). From here onward is the prayer order of the other days (מִכָּאן וּלְהָלְאָה, סִדּוּרָא דִּצְלוֹתָא דִּשְׁאַר יוֹמֵי), until “Yismach Moshe” etc. (עַד יִשְׂמַח מֹשֶׁה וְכוּ'), the joy of the supernal level (חֶדְוָותָא דְּדַרְגָא עִלָּאָה), the essence of the Patriarchs (עִקָּרָא דַּאֲבָהָן), who rejoice in their portion (דְּחַדֵּי בְּהַהוּא עַדְבָא דִּילֵיהּ), when the Throne ascends toward them and they receive it and unite with it as one (כַּד סָלִיק כּוּרְסְיָּיא לְגַבֵּיהּ, וְנָטִיל לָהּ, וּמִתְחַבְּרָאן כַּחֲדָא). And this is the joy of the supernal Torah above (וְדָא אִיהוּ חֶדְוָה דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא עִלָּאָה דִּלְעֵילָּא), the Written Torah (תּוֹרָה שֶׁבִּכְתָּב), that rejoices with the Torah below (דְּחַדֵּי בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא דִּלְתַתָּא), the Oral Torah (תּוֹרָה שֶׁבְּעַל פֶּה), and these two unite together (וְאִתְחַבָּרוּ דָּא בְּדָא). Once they are united as one (כֵּיוָן דְּאִתְחַבָּרוּ כַּחֲדָא), a person must include himself in that joy with the holy people (בָּעֵי בַּר נָשׁ לְאַכְלְלָא בְּהַהוּא חֶדְוָה לְעַמָּא קַדִּישָׁא), “They shall rejoice in Your kingship, the Shabbat observers…” (יִשְׂמְחוּ בְמַלְכוּתָךְ שׁוֹמְרֵי שַׁבָּת וְכוּ'), “Our God and God of our fathers, accept our rest…” (אֱלהֵינוּ וֵאלהֵי אֲבוֹתֵינוּ רְצֵה נָא בִמְנוּחָתֵנוּ).

The secret of the Sefer Torah on this day (רָזָא דְּסֵפֶר תּוֹרָה בְּיוֹמָא דָּא), has already been established, as we learned: it is written (הָא אוּקְמוּהָ תָּנֵינָן כְּתִיב), “And they read in the Sefer of the Torah of God clearly…” (נחמיה ח) (וְיִקְרְאוּ בְּסֵפֶר בְּתוֹרַת הָאֱלהִים מְפוֹרָשׁ), “and putting insight, and they understood the reading” (וְשׂוֹם שֶׂכֶל וַיָּבִינוּ בַמִּקְרָא). And it has already been established as a secret (וְהָא אוּקְמוּהָ רָזָא), that these are the pissukei ta‘amei, the cantillation marks, the masoret, and all the vocal and textual precision (דְּאִינּוּן פִּסּוּקֵי טַעֲמֵי, וּמַסּוֹרֶת, וְכָל אִינּוּן דִּיוּקִין), and supernal secrets (וְרָזִין עִלָּאִין), all were given to Moshe at Sinai (כֹּלָּא אִתְמְסָר לְמֹשֶׁה מִסִּינַי). If all these textual details were transmitted with the Orayta to Moshe (אִי בְכָל הָנֵי דִּיוּקִין אִתְמְסָר אוֹרַיְיתָא לְמֹשֶׁה), the Sefer Torah, which is in all holinesses (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה דְּאִיהוּ בְכָל אִינּוּן קְדוּשָׁאן), why should it lack any of these tikkunin or secrets that were transmitted to Moshe in the Orayta? (אֲמַאי אִיהוּ חָסֵר מִכָּל הָנֵי תִּקּוּנִין וְרָזִין דְּאִתְמְסָרוּ לֵיהּ לְמֹשֶׁה בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא).
