Daf 263b (דַּף רס״ג ע״ב)
And in this place the soul is judged (וּבְהַאי אֲתָר אִתְּדָנָת נִשְׁמְתָא), until it enters into this place that is called the Pit (עַד דְּעָאלָת לְהַאי אֲתָר דְּאִקְרֵי בּוֹר), and there are many serpents and scorpions within it (וְכַמָּה נְחָשִׁים וְעַקְרַבִּים אִית בֵּיהּ), all of them sting this soul (דְּכֻלְּהוּ עַקְצֵי לָהּ לְהַאי נִשְׁמְתָא), and seize her (וְאַחְדֵּי בָּהּ), and they judge her (וְדַיְינִין לָהּ). Within, beyond this (לְגוֹ מִן דָּא), there is one other defiled spirit (אִית חַד רוּחָא אַחֲרָא מִסְאֲבָא), that is above all (דְּאִיהוּ עִלָּאָה עַל כֹּלָּא). And this one stands over this entire palace (וְדָא קַיְּימָא עַל כָּל הֵיכָלָא דָּא), and all take from him (וְכֻלְּהוּ נַטְלֵי בְּגִינֵיהּ).
And this one is called Gamgimah (וְהַאי אִקְרֵי גַּמְגִימָ״א). This one is red as a rose (הַאי הוּא סוּמָקָא כְּוַורְדָּא), and he stands to corrupt constantly (אִיהוּ קָאִים לְאַבְאָשָׁא תָּדִיר). For when the prayer of a man is cast away (דְּהָא כַּד צְלוֹתָא דְּבַּר נָשׁ אִתְדַּחְיָא), and that man is not worthy in it (וְלָא זָכֵי בָּהּ הַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ), this spirit stands (הַאי רוּחָא קַיְּימָא), and rises and joins with the defiled spirit that is above all (וְסַלְּקָא וְאִשְׁתָּתַּף בְּרוּחָא מִסְאֲבָא עִלָּאָה עַל כֹּלָּא), and he ascends above (וְאַסְטֵי לְעֵילָּא), and recalls the sins of that man before Kudsha Berikh Hu (וְאַדְכִּיר חוֹבוֹי דְּבַר נָשׁ קָמֵי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא).
And your sign is (וְסִימָנִיךְ): “And also the Satan came among them” (וַיָּבֹא גַּם הַשָּׂטָן בְּתוֹכָם), and it is not written “and the Satan came,” but “also” (וְלָא כְּתִיב וַיָּבֹא הַשָּׂטָן, אֶלָּא גַּם) (Job 1). And from this evil spirit (וּמֵהַאי רוּחָא בִּישָׁא), depend many other officers of judgment (תַּלְיָין כַּמָה גַּרְדִּינִין אַחֲרָנִין), who are appointed to seize an evil word (דְּאִינּוּן מְמָנָן לְאַחֲדָא מִלָּה בִּישָׁא), or a filthy word that a man brings forth from his mouth (אוֹ מִלָּה טִנּוּפָא דְּאַפִּיק בַּר נָשׁ מִפּוּמֵיהּ), and afterwards he brings forth holy words (וּלְבָתַר אַפִּיק מִלִּין קַדִּישִׁין). Woe to them, woe to their lives (וַוי לוֹן, וַוי לְחַיֵּיהוֹן), these are the children of men (אִלֵּין אִינּוּן בְּנֵי נָשָׁא), who cause these other officers of judgment to rule (דְּגַרְמֵי לְאִלֵּין גַּרְדִּינִין אַחֲרָנִין לְשַׁלְּטָאָה), to blemish the holy place (לְמִפְגַּם אֲתָר קַדִּישָׁא).
Woe to them in this world (וַוי לוֹן בְּהַאי עָלְמָא), woe to them in the World to Come (וַוי לוֹן לְעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי). Because these defiled spirits (בְּגִין, דְּאִלֵּין רוּחִין מִסְאֲבִין), take this defiled word (נַטְלִין הַאי מִלָּה מִסְאֲבָא), and when a man afterwards brings forth a holy word (וְכַד אַפִּיק בַּר נָשׁ לְבָתַר מִלָּה קַדִּישָׁא), these defiled spirits precede (אַקְדִּימוּ אִלֵּין רוּחֵי מִסְאֲבֵי), and take that defiled word (וְנַטְלֵי הַהִיא מִלָּה מִסְאֲבָא), and they defile that holy word (וּמְסָאֲבֵי לְהַהִיא מִלָּה קַדִּישָׁא), and the man is not worthy in it (וְלָא זָכֵי בֵּיהּ בַּר נָשׁ), and, as it were, the holy power is weakened (וְכַבְיָכוֹל תָּשַׁשׁ חֵילָא קַדִּישָׁא). And above these there is one appointed one (וְעֵילָּא מֵאִלֵּין אִית חַד מְמָנָא), whose name is Sapsirita (סַפְסִירִיטָ״א שְׁמֵיהּ).
And many strict judges are with him (וְכַמָּה גַּרְדִּינֵי נִימוּסִין), and this appointed one who rules over them (וְהַאי מְמָנָא דְּעָלַיְיהוּ), they take those evil words (נַטְלֵי אִינּוּן מִלִּין בִּישִׁין). And likewise they take all those words (וְהָכִי נָמֵי נַטְלֵי כָּל אִלֵּין מִלִּין), that a man throws from his hands (דְּזָרִיק בַּר נָשׁ בִּידוֹי), when anger rests upon him (כַד רוּגְזָא שַׁרְיָא עֲלוֹי).
For then this appointed one Sapsirita seizes that word (דְּהָא כְּדֵין הַאי מְמָנָא סַפְסִירִיטָ״א נָקִיט הַאי מִלָּה), that a man has thrown in his anger (דְּזָרִיק בַּר נָשׁ בְּרוּגְזֵיהּ), and he ascends and says (וְסָלִיק וְאָמַר): “This is the offering of so-and-so (דָּא הוּא קָרְבְּנָא דִּפְלַנְיָא), which he has offered to our side” (דְּקָרִיב לְסִטְרָא דִּילָן).
Because every side of calmness (בְּגִין דְּכָל סִטְרָא דְּנַיְיחָא), is from the side of the right (אִיהוּ מִסִּטְרָא דִּימִינָא), and from the side of faith (וּמִסִּטְרָא דִּמְהֵימְנוּתָא). And every side of anger (וְכָל סִטְרָא דְּרוּגְזָא), is from the other evil side (אִיהוּ מִסִּטְרָא אַחֲרָא בִּישָׁא), the defiled side (סִטְרָא מִסְאֲבָא). And therefore whoever casts something from his hands in anger (וְעַל דָּא מַאן דְּאַשְׁדֵי מִן יְדוֹי מִדִי בְּרוּגְזָא), all of these take that word which was cast (כָּל אִלֵּין נַטְלִין לָהּ לְהַאי מִלָּה דְּאִזְדְרִיק), and they raise it above (וְסַלְקֵי לָהּ לְעֵילָּא), and it is brought near to that side (וְאִתְקְרִיב לְהַהוּא סִטְרָא), and they say: “This is the offering of so-and-so” (וְאָמְרֵי דָּא קָרְבְּנָא דִּפְלַנְיָא). Some say: “This is the worship of the offering” (נ״א: פּוּלְחֲנָא דְּקָרְבְּנָא).
And a herald calls in all the firmaments (וְכָרוֹזָא קָארֵי בְּכָל אִינּוּן רְקִיעִין), and they say (וְאָמְרֵי): “Woe to so-and-so, who has turned after a strange god, and has worshipped another god” (וַוי לִפְלָנְיָּא דְּאַסְטֵי בָּתַר אֵל זָר, וּפָלַח לְאֵל אַחֵר). And a herald calls a second time (וְכָרוֹזָא קָארֵי זִמְנָא תִּנְיָנָא), and says (וְאָמַר): “Woe to them, for they have strayed from Me, etc.” (אוֹי לָהֶם כִּי נָדְדוּ מִמֶּנִּי וְגוֹ׳) (Hosea 7).
Fortunate is the man who guards his ways (זַכָּאָה אִיהוּ בַּר נָשׁ, דְּאִסְתְּמַר מֵאָרְחוֹי), and does not turn to the right or to the left (וְלָא יִסְטֵי לִימִינָא וְלִשְׂמָאלָא), and does not fall into a deep pit (וְלָא יִנְפּוֹל בְּגוֹ בֵּירָא עֲמִיקָא), from which he is not able to ascend (דְּלָא יָכִיל לְסַלְּקָא מִנֵּיהּ).
The second palace (הֵיכָלָא תִּנְיָינָא), this palace (הֵיכָלָא דָּא), is darker than the first palace (אִיהוּ חָשׁוּךְ יַתִּיר עַל הֵיכָלָא קַדְמָאָה). This one is called Destruction (הַאי אִקְרֵי שָׁחַת), corresponding to the name called Impure (לָקֳבֵל שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי טָמֵא). For the first palace is called Pit (בְּגִין דְּהֵיכָלָא קַדְמָאָה אִקְרֵי בּוֹר), corresponding to the name called Satan (לָקֳבֵל שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי שָׂטָן). And this one is called Destruction (וְהַאי אִקְרֵי שָׁחַת), corresponding to the name called Impure (לָקֳבֵל שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי טָמֵא). In this palace there stand three gates (בְּהֵיכָלָא דָּא קַיְימִין תְּלַת פִּתְחִין), to three directions (לִתְלַת סִטְרִין).
The first gate (פִּתְחָא קַדְמָאָה): within it stands one appointed one (בֵּיהּ קַיְּימָא חַד מְמָנָא), his name is Astiriya (עַסְטִירִיָּ״א שְׁמֵיהּ). And many thousands and myriads are appointed under him (וְכַמָּה אֶלֶף וְרִבְּבָן מְמָנָן תְּחוֹתֵיהּ). And this one stands over all those who corrupt their ways (וְהַאי אִיהוּ קַיְּימָא עַל כָּל אִינּוּן דִּמְחַבְּלֵי אָרְחַיְיהוּ), to destroy seed upon the earth (לְאוֹשָׁדָא זַרְעָא עַל אַרְעָא), or who emit seed not in its way (אוֹ דְּמַפְקֵי זַרְעָא, דְּלָא כְּאָרְחָא), or for all those who commit fornication with their hands (אוֹ לְכָל אִינּוּן דִּמְזָנוּ בִּידַיְיהוּ). These are those who never behold the face of the Shekhinta at all (אִלֵּין אִינּוּן דְּלָא חָמָאן אַנְפֵּי שְׁכִינְתָּא כְּלַל).
But this appointed one, from the side of defilement of which we spoke (אֶלָּא הַאי מְמָנָא דְּבִסְטַר מִסְאֲבָא דְּקַאמְרָן), goes out at that time (נָפִיק בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא), and many thousands and myriads (וְכַמָּה אִינּוּן אֶלֶף וְרִבְּבָן), all gather upon that man (כֻלְּהוּ מִתְכַּנְּפֵי עַל הַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ), and defile him in this world (וּמְסָאֲבֵי לֵיהּ בְּהַאי עָלְמָא). And afterwards, when his soul goes out from him from this world (וּלְבָתַר כַּד נָפַק נִשְׁמָתֵיהּ מִנֵּיהּ מֵהַאי עָלְמָא), this appointed one and all those with him (הַאי מְמָנָא וְכָל אִינּוּן דְּעִמֵּיהּ), defile his soul (מְסָאֲבִין לֵיהּ לְנִשְׁמָתֵיהּ), and seize her (וְאַחֲדִין בָּהּ), and she becomes defiled with them (וַאֲסְתָּאֲבַת בְּהוֹ), and they bring her in to be judged among them (וְאָעִילוּ לָהּ לְאִתְּדָּנָא בְּהוּ).
