“And it came to pass at the end of days…” Rabbi Shimon opened and said: What is “at the end of days”? Rather, from that place about which it is destined to be said: “The end of all flesh has come before Me” [Bereshit 6] (אֶלָּא מֵהַהוּא אֲתַר דְּעָתִיד לְמֵימָר בֵּיהּ קֵץ כָּל בָּשָׂר בָּא לְפָנַי). “He set an end to darkness” [Job 28] (קֵץ שָׂם לַחֹשֶׁךְ). And Yonatan ben Uziel translated “the end of all flesh” as: the bundle of all flesh, the angels of destruction He saw that destroyers of vineyards were destined to come forth from him These are Yisrael, of whom it is said: “For the vineyard of YHVH of Hosts is the house of Yisrael” [Isaiah 5] (דְּאִינוּן יִשְׂרָאֵל דְּאִתְּמַר בְּהוֹן כִּי כֶרֶם יהו״ה צְבָאוֹת בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל). Because of this: “And unto Kayin and unto his offering He did not turn” [Bereshit 4] (בְּגִין כַּךְ וְאֶל קַיִן וְאֶל מִנְחָתוֹ לֹא שָׁעָה). And He saw that many Righteous were destined to come forth from Hevel
Because of this: “And YHVH had regard to Hevel and to his offering” [Bereshit 4] (בְּגִין דָּא וַיִּשַׁע יהו״ה אֶל הֶבֶל וְאֶל מִנְחָתוֹ). But behold, at the time that Kayin was born, it is said of him: “I have gotten a man with YHVH” [Bereshit 4] (וְהָא בְּשַׁעִיתָּא דְאִתְיְלִיד קַיִן אִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ קָנִיתִי אִישׁ אֶת יהו״ה). But it was not so, because she was not perfumed, and the strong serpent cast in her the pollution of harsh judgment And because of this she was not perfumed And when Kayin, who came from the side of the female, went out, strong and harsh in his judgments (וְכַד קַיִן מִסִּטְרָא דְנוּקְבָא נָפַק תַּקִּיפָא קַשְׁיָא בְּדִינוֹי), once this one went out, she was weakened and perfumed (כֵּיוָן דְּנָפַק דָּא אִתְחַלְשַׁת אִיהִי וְאִתְבַּסְמַת). After this she brought forth another, in greater sweetness And the first, who was strong and harsh, ruled over the other, for all judgments were aroused with him
Come and see: What is written? “And it came to pass when they were in the field” [Bereshit 4] (תָּא חֲזִי, מַה כְּתִיב וַיְהִי בִּהְיוֹתָם בַּשָּׂדֶה). “In the field”-the field known above The field that is called the field of apples And this judgment prevailed over his brother, because it was harsher than him And he subdued him and concealed him beneath him Until Kudsha Berikh Hu was aroused in this judgment (עַד דְּאִתְעַר בְּהַאי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and He removed him from before Him and sank him into the female of the great abyss (וְאַעִבְּרֵיהּ מִקַּמֵּיהּ וְשַׁקְעִיהּ בְּנוּקְבָא דִתְהוֹמָא רַבָּא). And He encompassed his brother in the immersion of the great sea, which perfumes the supernal tears
