And whoever brings forth that seed, which is the flowing from above, not into this dry land (וְכָל מָאן דְּאַפֵּיק הַאי זֶרַע דְּאִיהוּ נְבִיעוּ מִלְּעִילָא דְּלָא בְהַאי יַבָּשָׁה), causes separation in that flow (גָרִים פִּרוּדָא בְהַהוּא נְבִיעוּ). As if, so to speak, the flow of the Shekhinta were cut off (כַּבְיָכוֹל כְּאִלּוּ אִתְפַּסַּק נְבִיעוּ דִשְׁכִינְתָּא), and the flow of the Sitra achra increases (וְיִתְרַבָּהּ נְבִיעוּ דְסִטְרָא אָחֳרָא), which are the waters of the flood (דְּאִינוּן מֵי טוֹפָנָא). This is what is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב): “And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth” (Bereshit 7) (וְהַמַּיִם גָּבְרוּ מְאֹד מְאֹד עַל הָאָרֶץ). At that time, when there is no flow in that dry land, which is heavy (בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא דְלֵית נְבִיעוּ בְּהַהִיא יַבָּשָׁה דְהִיא כְּבֵדָה), she becomes light, to depart from over Yisrael (אִתְעֲבִידַת קַלָּה, לְאִסְתַּלְקָא מֵעַל יִשְׂרָאֵל). Of her it is said (וְאִתְּמַר בָּהּ): “And it was lifted up above the earth” (Bereshit 7) (וַתָּרָם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ). And she did not descend until the seventh month (וְלָא נָחֲתַת עַד יַרְחָא שְׁבִיעָאָה), when she was filled with her merits, and being heavy, she descended (דְאִתְמְלִיאַת בְּזַכְוָון דִּילָהּ וְאִיהִי כְּבֵדָה נָחֲתַת). This is what is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב): “And the ark rested in the seventh month” (Bereshit 8) (וַתָּנַח הַתֵּיבָה בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי)-this is Tishrei, the left arm (דְּאִיהוּ תִּשְׁרִי דְּרוֹעָא שְׂמָאלָא).
For if they had gone out then, they would have gone out to death (דְּאִי הֲווֹ נָפְקִין בֵּיהּ יִפְקוּן בְּמִיתָה), and none would remain but one from a city and two from a family (וְלָא יִשְׁתָּאֲרוּן אֶלָּא חַד מֵעִיר וּשְׁנַיִם מִמִּשְׁפָּחָה). “One from a city”-like Noah “Two from a family”-like Shem and Yefet And from the others-two by two, seven by seven (וּמֵאָחֳרָנִין שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם שִׁבְעָה שִׁבְעָה)-from those peoples of the earth who are like animals, birds, and beasts (מֵאִינוּן עַמֵּי הָאָרֶץ דְּדַמְיָין לִבְעִירָן וְעוֹפִין וְחֵיוָון). And these are those who establish Yomim Tovim and festivals They are “two by two”-the two days of Rosh HaShanah and Shavuot “Two days of Purim” (תְּרֵין יוֹמִין דְּפוּרִים). “Seven by seven”-these are the seven days of Pesach, and the seven days of Sukkot Or those who pray the eighteen blessings of prayer every day (אוֹ דְמִתְפַּלְּלִין חַ״י בִּרְכָאָן דִּצְלוֹתָא בְּכָל יוֹמָא), which ascend to the count of “two by two, seven by seven”-eighteen (דְסָלְקִין לְחוּשְׁבַּן שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם שִׁבְעָה שִׁבְעָה חַ״י). Or these are those who guard the Yod, which is the sign of the covenant of circumcision (אוֹ אִלֵּין דַּהֲווֹ נָטְרִין יו״ד דְּאִיהוּ אוֹת בְּרִית מִילָה), which is on the eighth, for all is Chai [life] (דְּאִיהוּ לִשְׁמֹנָה דְּכֹלָּא חַ״י). Or those who lay tefillin every day (אוֹ אִלֵּין דְּמַנְחָן תְּפִלֵּי בְּכָל יוֹמָא), which are the sign Yod (דְּאִינוּן אוֹת יו״ד), as it is said (כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמַר): “And it shall be for a sign…” And they bind it with the eight houses of the tefillin (וַהֲווֹ קָשְׁרִין לֵיהּ בְּח׳ בָּתֵּי דִתְּפִלֵּי)-these are the four compartments of the head tefillin and the four parshiyot of the hand tefillin (דְּאִינוּן ד׳ בָּתֵּי דִתְּפִלִּין דְּרֵישָׁא, וְאַרְבַּע פַּרְשִׁיָּין דִּתְּפִלִּין דְּיָד). Or those who guard the sign Yod-Shabbat-within its boundary, which is eight (אוֹ אִינוּן דְּנָטְרִין אוֹת יו״ד שַׁבָּת בִּתְּחוּמָא דִילֵיהּ דְּאִיהוּ ח׳): two thousand cubits to every direction (תְּרֵי אַלְפֵי אַמִּין לְכָל סִטְרָא). And all is Chai [life] (וְכֹלָּא חַ״י). These are those who are received in Teshuvah, which is the Ark of Noah, Yom haKippurim But the others will not be accepted in Teshuvah And if they go out on the Day of Judgment-those who did not guard (וְאִם יִפְקוּן בְּיוֹמָא דְּדִינָא, אִלֵּין דְּלָא הֲווֹ נָטְרִין)-of them it is said (אִתְּמַר בְּהוֹן): “And all flesh died that moved upon the earth” (Bereshit 7) (וַיִּגְוַע כָּל בָּשָׂר הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל הָאָרֶץ). And these are called the completely wicked, who are judged immediately to death
For concerning them, during six days the Shekhinta wandered This is what is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב): “But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot” (Bereshit 8) (וְלֹא מָצְאָה הַיּוֹנָה מָנוֹחַ לְכַף רַגְלָהּ). And these are the weekday days The completely righteous are those who guard Chai [life], and Shabbatot, and Yomim Tovim Of them it is said (עֲלַיְיהוּ אִתְּמַר): “And the dove came in to him at evening” (Bereshit 8) (וַתָּשָׁב אֵלָיו הַיּוֹנָה לְעֵת עֶרֶב)-these are the evenings of Shabbatot and Yomim Tovim (וְדָא עַרְבֵי שַׁבָּתוֹת וְיוֹמִין טָבִין). For Shekhinta comes to rest upon them, because they are holy As it is said (כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמַר): “Yisrael is holiness to YHVH” (Jeremiah 2) (קֹדֶשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל לַיהוָה). And: “You who cleave to YHVH your God are all alive this day” (Deuteronomy 4) And these are the completely righteous, who are written and sealed immediately for life (וְאִינוּן צַדִּיקִים גְּמוּרִים דְּנִכְתָּבִין וְנֶחתָמִין לְאַלְתַּר לְחַיִּים), and are written in the Book of Life (וּכְתִיבִין בְּסִפְרָא דְחַיֵּי), as it is said (כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמַר): “And in the Book of Life, blessing…”
The Beinonim [intermediate ones], who include both the weekday and holiness, are suspended until Yom ha-Kippurim [the Day of Atonements], which is in the likeness of Teivat Noaḥ [Noah’s ark] (בֵּינוּנִיִּים דִּכְּלִילָן מֵחוֹל וְקֹדֶשׁ תַּלְיָין עַד יוֹם הַכִּפּוּרִים דְּאִיהוּ כְּגַוְונָא דְּתֵיבַת נֹחַ). If they repent in Teshuvah, He accepts them and they are written for life And if not, they are written for death with the others (וְאִם לַאו יִכָּתְבוּן לְמִיתָה עִם אָחֳרָנִין), of whom it is said (דְּאִתְּמַר בְּהוֹן): “And all flesh perished…” And the intermediates-because there are in them commandments and sins (וּבֵינוּנִיִּים בְּגִין דְּאִית בְּהוֹן פִּקּוּדִין וְחוֹבִין)-of them it is said (אִתְּמַר בְּהוֹן): “And of every living thing, of all flesh…” “Of every living thing”-from the side of merits “Of all flesh”-from the side of sins (And furthermore, in the time when the Mashiach comes (וְעוֹד דְּבְזִמְנָא דְּיֵיתֵי מְשִׁיחָא), all those who guarded the sign of the covenant shall be saved from death (כָּל אִינוּן דְּנָטְרוּ אוֹת בְּרִית יִשְׁזִיב יַתְהוֹן מִמּוֹתְנָא). For in that time death will be nullified (דְּבְהַהוּא זִמְנָא יִתְבַּטֵּל מוֹתְנָא), as those prophets prophesied in a mirror that does not shine (דְּהֲווֹ מִתְנַבְּאִין אִינוּן נְבִיאַיָּא דְּאַסְפַּקְלַרְיָא דְּלָא נְהָרָא), that there will not remain except one from a city and two from a family (דְּלָא יִשְׁתָּאֲרוּן אֶלָּא חַד מֵעִיר וּשְׁנַיִם מִמִּשְׁפָּחָה). Such as that which is written (כְּגוֹן הַהוּא דִּכְתִיב): “Two by two they came to Noah” (Bereshit 7) (שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם בָּאוּ אֶל נֹחַ). And there are those who say: “Seven by seven” from the side of Bat Sheva And these are: “One from a city”-Noah, this is Shabbat (וְאֵלֵּין אִינוּן חַד מֵעִיר, נֹחַ דָּא שַׁבָּת), in which rest is inherited for the Tzaddik (דְּבֵיהּ נֵיחָא דְּיָרֵית לֵיהּ צַדִּיק). “Two by two”—two days: one Rosh haShanah [New Year] and one Yom haDin [Day of Judgment] (שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם תְּרֵין יוֹמִין, חַד דְּרֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה וְחַד דְּיוֹם הַדִּין). The second is doubtful And one day of Yom haKippurim And one day of Shavuot “And seven by seven”-these are the seven days of Sukkot and the seven days of Pesach Whoever guards these days is destined to be delivered from exile And because Kudsha Berikh Hu revealed all this to Moshe (וּבְגִין דְּגַלֵּי כָּל דָּא קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא לְמֹשֶׁה), he asked mercy upon them (שְׁאִיל רַחֲמֵי עֲלַיְיהוּ), and gave himself over to death (וּמָסַר גַּרְמֵיהּ לְמִיתָה).
This is what is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב): “And if not, erase me now from Your book” (Exodus 32) (וְאִם אַיִן מְחֵנִי נָא מִסִּפְרְךָ). And by his appeasement he cleaved to the King He grasped the right arm and said: “Remember Avraham” (וַאֲחִיד בִּדְרוֹעָא דִיְמִינָא וְאָמַר זְכוֹר לְאַבְרָהָם). Afterwards he grasped the left and said: “Remember Yitzchak” (וּלְבָתַר אֲחִיד בִּשְׂמָאלָא וְאָמַר זְכוֹר לְיִצְחָק). Afterwards he grasped the body and said: “And Yisrael” (וּלְבָתַר אֲחִיד בְּגוּפָא וְאָמַר וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵל). And Kudsha Berikh Hu said: For these intermediates, with them the merit of the Fathers is finished Since they do not desire Teshuvah, behold, they are as completely wicked And if they desire Teshuvah, of them it is said: “The merit of the Fathers is healed” (וְאִם תָּאבִין בִתְיוּבְתָּא אִתְּמַר לְגַבַּיְיהוּ חָלָה זְכוּת אָבוֹת). And because these intermediates should not be lost, Moshe said: Lest the people of the world say that I am like Noah, who did not ask mercy upon his generation At that time he gave himself over for them This is what is written: “And if not, erase me now” (Exodus 32)
