Chapter Fifty-Eight (פֶּרֶק חֲמִשִּׁים וּשְׁמוֹנָה)

And you must know (וְצָרִיךְ אַתָּה לָדַעַת), that after these Kelim [Vessels] were broken (אַחַר שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרוּ אֵלּוּ הַכֵּלִים), the inner and encompassing light fitting for them (הָאוֹר הַפְּנִימִי וְהַמַּקִּיף הָרָאוּי לָהֶם) returned upward to the womb of Binah (חָזַר לְמַעְלָה לְמֵעֵי בִּינָה). And when Chokhmah and Binah saw this great destruction (וּכְשֶׁרָאוּ חָכְמָה וּבִּינָה אֶת הַחֻרְבָּן הַגָּדוֹל הַזֶּה), they feared (נִתְיַרְאוּ), lest, Heaven forbid, it should happen to them as well (שֶׁמָּא חַס וְשָׁלוֹם יֵאָרַע לָהֶם כֵּן). And from great fear, they became fissured lengthwise (וּמֵרוֹב הַיִּרְאָה נִסְדְּקוּ לְאׇרְכָן), and the light descended from them downward (וְיָרַד הָאוֹר הַזֶּה מֵהֶן לְמַטָּה), to the place destined to become the World of Atzilut (לִמְקוֹם הָעָתִיד לִהְיוֹת עוֹלַם הָאֲצִילוּת). And these lights are called fallen lights (וְאֵלּוּ הָאוֹרוֹת נִקְרְאוּ נוֹבְלוֹת), for the light falls—or overflows (כִּי הָאוֹר נוֹבֵל - נוֹפֵל), into the World of Tikkun without interruption (לְעוֹלַם הַתִּקּוּן בְּלִי הַפְּסֵק), to enliven the worlds (לְהַחֲיוֹת הָעוֹלָמוֹת). And they are windows which shine upon the worlds (וְהֵם חַלּוֹנוֹת הַמְאִירִים לָעוֹלָמוֹת), in the mystery of “the windows of the firmament were opened”—which is Ze’ir Anpin (בְּסוֹד וּבָקַע חַלּוֹנֵי רָקִיעַ שֶׁהוּא זְעֵיר), to give it life (לְהַחֲיוֹתוֹ). And Chokhmah was fissured in the mystery of chitah [wheat] (וְנִסְדְּקָה חָכְמָה בְּסוֹד חִטָּה), and Imma—Binah—in the mystery of se‘orah [barley] (וְאִמָּא בְּסוֹד שְׂעוֹרָה), whose fissuring faces inward (שֶׁהַסְּדִיקָה שֶׁלָּהּ הוֹלֶכֶת לִפְנִים), in the mystery of “windows transparent and opaque” in the Beit HaMikdash (בְּסוֹד חַלּוֹנֵי שְׁקוּפִים אֲטוּמִים שֶׁל בֵּית הַמִּקְדָּשׁ). And concerning these fallen lights (וְעַל אֵלּוּ הַנוֹבְלוֹת) our Sages of blessed memory said (אָמְרוּ חֲז״ל): “Fallen lights from the supernal Chokhmah—this is Torah” (נֹבְלוֹת חָכְמָה שֶׁל מַעְלָה – תּוֹרָה), and “Fallen lights from Binah—this is the Shekhinah” (נֹבְלוֹת בִּינָה – שְׁכִינָה). That is, from the light that falls from Chokhmah, there was made the Partzuf of Ze’ir Anpin (הַיְנוּ: מֵהָאוֹר שֶׁנוֹבֵל מִן חָכְמָה, נַעֲשָׂה פַּרְצוּף דְּזְעֵיר אַנְפִּין), which is the Written Torah (שֶׁהוּא תּוֹרָה שֶׁבִּכְתָב), and chitah [wheat] is the gematria of 22, corresponding to the letters of the Torah (וְחִטָּה גִּימַטְרִיָּא כ״ב - אוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁל הַתּוֹרָה). And from the light that falls from Binah, the Shekhinah is constructed (וּמֵהָאוֹר שֶׁנוֹבֵל מִבִּינָה, נִבְנֵית שְׁכִינָה), meaning, the Nukvah of Ze’ir Anpin (שֶׁהִיא נוּקְבֵיהּ שֶׁל ז״א).
