Chapter Fourteen (פֶּרֶק אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר)

Behold, the Holy One Blessed Be He saw fit to bring the influx gradually into the first three, so that they not be broken, Heaven forbid, and require returning all into Tohu vaVohu (הִנֵּה רָאָה הקב״ה לְהָבִיא הַשֶּׁפַע בְּהַדְרָגָה אֶל שָׁלוֹשׁ רִאשׁוֹנוֹת, כְּדֵי שֶׁלֹּא יִשָּׁבְרוּ חַס וְחָלִילָה, וְיוּצְרַךְ לְהַחֲזִיר הַכֹּל אֶל תֹּהוּ וָבֹהוּ). And even though the influx was gradual, there was in Chokhmah and Binah a slight weakening of strength, and they cracked, in the secret of wheat and barley (וְאַף עַל פִּי שֶׁהַשֶּׁפַע הָיָה בְּהַדְרָגָה, הָיָה בְּחָכְמָה וּבִינָה מְעַט חֲלִישׁוּת כֹּחַ וְנִסְדְּקוּ בְּסוֹד חִטָּה וּשְׂעוֹרָה). And even this gradualness did not bring full healing unless Binah was raised to the backside of Chokhmah, so that there would be a slight turning back-to-back, and at times face-to-back, as I will explain (וַאֲפִלּוּ הַהַדְרָגָה הַזֹּאת לֹא עָלְתָה אֲרוּכָה, אִם לֹא שֶׁהֶעֱלָה הַבִּינָה לְצַד אֲחוֹרֵי הַחָכְמָה, כְּדֵי שֶׁיִּהְיֶה מְעַט פְּנִיַּית אָחוֹר בְּאָחוֹר, וּלְפָעָמִים פָּנִים בְּאָחוֹר, כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲבָאֵר). And the reason is, because the place of Binah below is far from Keter, and it was decreed upon her place to be broken (וְהַטַּעַם, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁמְּקוֹם הַבִּינָה לְמַטָּה רָחוֹק מִן הַכֶּתֶר, וְנִגְזַר עַל מְקוֹמָהּ שְׁבִירָה), therefore she needed to take permission to ascend near the backside of Chokhmah (לָכֵן הוּצְרְכָה לִטֹּל רְשׁוּת לַעֲלוֹת אֵצֶל אֲחוֹרֵי הַחָכְמָה), and it was slightly like a mitigated state, just a little less than it (וְהָיָה מְעַט דּוּגְמַת הַמְתָּקְלָא מְעַט קָט מִמֶּנּוּ), for in every place where there is mitigation, there is no breaking (כִּי כָל מָקוֹם שֶׁיֵּשׁ הַמְתָּקְלָא לֹא יִהְיֶה שְׁבִירָה). And because the mitigation was not complete, therefore there was in them slight weakness of strength, that they could not retain within themselves all the lights, as I will explain (וּמִפְּנֵי שֶׁלֹּא הָיְתָה הַמְתָּקְלָא בְּשְׁלֵמוּת, לָכֵן הָיָה בָּהֶם מְעַט חֲלִישׁוּת כֹּחַ שֶׁלֹּא יָכְלוּ לְהַחֲזִיק אֶצְלָם כָּל הָאוֹרוֹת, כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲבָאֵר). And even Keter had a slight weakening of strength, and it could not contain all the influx that poured to it from the Yod of Sag (וְגַם הַכֶּתֶר הָיָה לוֹ מְעַט חֲלִישׁוּת כֹּחַ, וְלֹא הָיָה יָכוֹל לְהַכִּיל כָּל הַשֶּׁפַע הַנִּשְׁפָּךְ לוֹ מִן הַיוֹ״ד שֶׁל ס״ג), and that surplus light became the “droppings” of Keter, which are preserved for the resurrection of the dead (וְאוֹתוֹ הָאוֹר הָעוֹדֵף, נַעֲשָׂה מִמֶּנּוּ נוֹבְלוֹת הַכֶּתֶר, הַשְּׁמוּרָה לְצוֹרֶךְ תְּחִיַּית הַמֵּתִים).
