Chapter Seven (פֶּרֶק שְׁבִיעִי)

And know (וְדַע), that because the Partzuf of Reisha DeLa Ityada [the Unknowable Head], namely the Malkhut of Adam Kadmon (לִהְיוֹת שֶׁהַפַּרְצוּף שֶׁל רֵישָׁא דְלָא אִתְיְדַע דְּהַיְנוּ מַלְכוּת אָדָם קַדְמוֹן), is covered by the Chokhmah as mentioned (הוּא מְכוּסֶּה מֵהַחָכְמָה כַּנִּזְכָּר), and nothing is visible from it except the head which is Keter, Chokhmah, Binah (וְאֵינוֹ נִרְאֶה מִמֶּנּוּ כִּי אִם הָרֹאשׁ שֶׁהוּא כח״ב), therefore it is called Reisha DeLa Ityada [the Unknowable Head] (לָזֶה נִקְרָא רֵישָׁא דְלָא אִתְיְדַע), like the head of the human being which is not covered by his garments (כְּמוֹ הָרֹאשׁ שֶׁל הַבֶּן אָדָם שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְכוּסֶּה מִמַּלְבּוּשָׁיו). And also from the Chokhmah nothing is visible except the third of her Keter called Reisha DeEin [the Head of Nothingness] (וְגַם הַחָכְמָה אֵינָהּ נִרְאֶה מִמֶּנָּה כִּי אִם הַשְּׁלִישׁ שֶׁל כֶּתֶר שֶׁלָּהּ הַנִּקְרֵאת רֵישָׁא דְאֵין), which is not like the head of Keter where all of it is visible (שֶׁאֵינָהּ כְּמוֹ רֵישָׁא דְּכֶתֶר שֶׁנִּרְאֶה כֻּלָּהּ), and from it nothing is visible except the Keter, Chokhmah, Binah of her Keter (וְלֹא נִרְאֶה מִמֶּנָּה כִּי אִם כח״ב שֶׁל כֶּתֶר שֶׁלָּהּ), therefore it is called Ein [Nothingness] (לָזֶה נִקְרֵאת אֵין), meaning to say (רָצָה לוֹמַר), that not so much of it is visible except its horns (שֶׁאֵין נִרְאֶה מִמֶּנָּה כָּל כָּךְ כִּי אִם קַרְנֶיהָ), which are the horns of half the Aleph like this (שֶׁהֵם קַרְנֵי חֲצִי הָאָלֶ״ף כָּזֶה): Letter or vowel-point form preserved from the manuscript

For if it were covered completely (שֶׁאִלּוּ הָיְתָה מְכוּסָּה מִכֹּל וָכֹל), human beings would be like the beasts of the field (הָיוּ הַבְּנֵי אָדָם כַּבְּהֵמוֹת הַשָּׂדֶה), as the author of Sefer Berit Menuchah wrote (כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתַב בַּעַל סֵפֶר בְּרִית מְנוּחָה), that were it not for the horns of Chokhmah being revealed, the Chokhmah would remain sealed (שֶׁאִלּוּלֵי קַרְנֵי הַחָכְמָה מְגוּלוֹת הָיְתָה הַחָכְמָה סְתוּמָה), and human beings would be likened to the beasts of the field (וְהָיוּ הַבְּנֵי אָדָם כַּבְּהֵמוֹת שָׂדֶה נִדְמוּ) (Psalms 49).

Behold now (הִנֵּה עַתָּה), that it is in the secret of garments (שֶׁהוּא בְּסוֹד מַלְבּוּשִׁים), and also all the Partzufim that are made are in the secret of garments (וְגַם כָּל הַפַּרְצוּפִים הַנַּעֲשִׂים הֵם בְּסוֹד הַמַּלְבּוּשִׁים), and these are the “garments of glory” (וְאֵלּוּ הֵן לְבוּשִׁין דִּיקָר) that are mentioned in Sifra deTzni‘uta (שֶׁאָמַר בְּסִפְרָא דְצְנִיעוּתָא): “He prepared and bequeathed” (אִתְקִין וְאַחְסִין), meaning (כְּלוֹמַר), He rectified them in the secret of Partzuf (תִּקֵּן אוֹתָם בְּסוֹד פַּרְצוּף), and bequeathed them to that which is beneath them (וְהוֹרִישׁ אוֹתָם לְמַה שֶּׁלְּמַטָּה מֵהֶן), to derive benefit from their light (לֵהָנוֹת מֵאוֹרָם), which would otherwise be impossible for them (מַה שֶּׁאִי אֶפְשָׁר לָהֶם בְּלָאו הָכִי).

And let us return to our matter (וְנַחֲזוֹר לְעִנְיָנֵינוּ); however the third head, which is Arich (אֲבָל הָרֹאשׁ הַשְּׁלִישִׁי שֶׁהוּא אֲרִיךְ), includes within itself all three heads (הוּא כּוֹלֵל אֵלָיו כָּל הַג׳ רֵישִׁין), namely Reisha DeLa Ityada [the Unknowable Head] and Reisha DeEin [the Head of Nothingness] (דְּהַיְנוּ רֵישָׁא דְלָא אִתְיְדַע וְרֵישָׁא דְאֵין), and this Partzuf of Arich (וְהַפַּרְצוּף הַזֶּה שֶׁל אֲרִיךְ), because it is covered by the Partzufim of Abba and Imma and Ze’ir Anpin and his Nukvah, as we shall explain with Heavenly assistance (לִהְיוֹת מְכוּסֶּה בְּפַרְצוּפִין שֶׁל אַבָּא וְאִמָּא וּזְעֵיר וְנוּקְבֵיהּ כַּאֲשֶׁר נְפָרֵשׁ בְּסִיַּעְתָּא דִּשְׁמַיָּא), therefore it is also called Reisha DeArich [the Head of Arich] (וְלָזֶה נִקְרָא גַּם כֵּן רֵישָׁא דַאֲרִיךְ).

And know (וְדַע), that all these three heads together (שֶׁכָּל אֵלּוּ הַתְּלַת רֵישִׁין יַחַד), at times Rashbi, peace be upon him, refers to all of them by the name Reisha DeArich [the Head of Arich] (לִפְעָמִים הָרַשְׁבִּ״י ע״ה מְכַנֶּה אוֹתָם כּוּלָּם בְּשֵׁם רֵישָׁא דַאֲרִיךְ), and concerning these three heads the Zohar says (וְאֵלּוּ הַתְּלַת רֵישִׁין אוֹמֵר בְּסֵפֶר הַזֹּהַר): “These are three heads, one above the other, and one within the other” (אִילֵּין תְּלַת רֵישִׁין דָּא לְעֵילָא מִן דָּא וְדָא לְגוֹ מִן דָּא), meaning (כְּלוֹמַר), “one above the other” in level, which is Reisha DeLa Ityada [the Unknowable Head] (דָּא לְעֵילָא מִן דָּא בְּמַדְרֵגָה שֶׁהוּא רֵישָׁא דְלָא אִתְיְדַע), and “one within the other” are Reisha DeEin [the Head of Nothingness] and Arich, which cover one another (וְדָא לְגוֹ מִן דָּא הֵם רֵישָׁא דְאֵין וַאֲרִיךְ שֶׁמְּכַסִּים זוֹ אֶת זוֹ).
