Chapter Three (פֶּרֶק שְׁלִישִׁי)

The Sages of blessed memory said (אָמְרוּ חֲזַ״ל) in Tractate Sanhedrin, chapter Chelek (בְּמַסֶּכֶת סַנְהֶדְרִין פֶּרֶק חֵלֶק): “In the future, the dead will be revived, by an inference a fortiori from wheat, which is buried naked and emerges with many garments” (מֵתִים עֲתִידִים לְהַחֲיוֹת קַל וָחוֹמֶר מֵחִטָּה, שֶׁנִּקְבֶּרֶת עֲרוּמָה וְיוֹצְאוֹת בְּכַמָּה לְבוּשִׁים) (Sanhedrin 90b). Thus the ten Sefirot of the world of Tohu (כָּךְ י׳ סְפִירוֹת שֶׁל עוֹלַם הַתֹּהוּ) died and were buried naked (מֵתוּ וְנִקְבְּרוּ עֲרוּמִים), meaning to say (רָצָה לוֹמַר), that they vanished from sight (שֶׁנִּתְעַלְּמוּ מִן הָעַיִן), and afterward emerged in many garments (וְיָצְאוּ אַחַר כָּךְ בְּכַמָּה מַלְבּוּשִׁים), one after another (זוֹ אַחַר זוֹ). As it is said (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר): “And they stood as a garment” (וַיִּתְיַצְּבוּ כְּמוֹ לְבוּשׁ) (Job 38). In order that the light should emerge through many lights, Partzufim, and garments (כְּדֵי שֶׁיֵּצֵא הָאוֹר עַל יְדֵי כַּמָּה אוֹרוֹת פַּרְצוּפִים וּלְבוּשִׁים), and become more sweetened (וְיִהְיֶה יוֹתֵר מְבוּשָׂם), so that the world would be able to endure it (בִּכְדֵי שֶׁיּוּכַל הָעוֹלָם לִסְבּוֹל), and this is Ein Sof (וְהוּא אֵין סוֹף) standing behind our wall (הָעוֹמֵד אַחַר כָּתְלֵינוּ) (Song of Songs 2), these are the aforementioned garments (הֵם הַלְּבוּשִׁים הַנִּזְכָּרִים), which are called walls, screen, and curtain (הַנִּקְרָאִים כוֹתָלִים וּמָסָךְ וּפָרוֹכֶת), so that the influx should not come with excessive force (שֶׁלֹּא יָבֹא הַשֶּׁפַע בְּחוֹזֶק יוֹתֵר מִדַּאי). And that which it says (וּמַה שֶּׁאָמַר): “Looking through the windows” (מַשְׁגִּיחַ מִן הַחֲלֹנוֹת) (Song of Songs 2), meaning to say (רָצָה לוֹמַר), the five windows (ה׳ חַלּוֹנוֹת), they are the five Partzufim (הֵם ה׳ פַּרְצוּפִים), that are in every single world (שֶׁבְּכָל עוֹלָם וְעוֹלָם), where the ten Sefirot of the world of Tohu (שָׁמָּה י׳ סְפִירוֹת שֶׁל עוֹלַם הַתֹּהוּ) became five Partzufim and a complete stature (נַעֲשׂוּ ה׳ פַּרְצוּפִין וְקוֹמָה שְׁלֵמָה). And this is the secret of the verse (וְזֶהוּ סוֹד הַפָּסוּק): “These are the generations of the heavens and the earth” (אֵלֶּה תּוֹלְדוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ) (Genesis 2), whose initial letters spell Tohu (רָאשֵׁי תֵּיבוֹת תֹּהוּ). “On the day that Hashem Elohim made them” (בְּהִבָּרְאָם) (Genesis 2), meaning to say (רָצָה לוֹמַר), He rectified them through the five complete Partzufim (תִּקְּנָם בְּה׳ פַּרְצוּפִים שְׁלֵמִים). And this is what the sages of blessed memory said (וְזֶהוּ שֶׁאָמְרוּ רַזַ״ל): “The Holy One, blessed be He, builds worlds and destroys them” (הקב״ה בּוֹנֶה עוֹלָמוֹת וּמַחֲרִיבָן) (Bereishit Rabbah 3:7). Meaning to say (רָצָה לוֹמַר), these are the six Sefirot which are six worlds (אֵלּוּ הֵם הַו׳ סְפִירוֹת שֶׁהֵם ו׳ עוֹלָמוֹת), the Holy One, blessed be He, built them and destroyed them (בָּנָה הקב״ה וְהֶחֱרִיבָן), all this you shall know (כָּל זֶה תֵּדַע), in the details of the Tikkunim (בִּפְרָטוּת תִּיקּוּנִים), together with the Tikkun of Malkhut that was nullified (עִם תִּיקּוּן מַלְכוּת שֶׁנִּתְבַּטְּלָה). And concerning this the sages of blessed memory said (וְעַל זֶה אָמְרוּ רַזַ״ל): “Six thousand years the world shall exist” (שִׁית אַלְפֵי הֲוֵי עָלְמָא) (Rosh Hashanah 31a). Its explanation is (פֵּרוּשׁוֹ), that every Sefirah from the six extremities (שֶׁכָּל סְפִירָה מֵהַשֵּׁשׁ קְצָווֹת) requires one thousand years to be rectified (צְרִיכָה לְאִתַּתְקָנָא אֶלֶף שָׁנָה), in the secret of (בְּסוֹד): “the two shoulders” (תְּרֵין כַּתְפִּין), for shoulder (כִּי כָּתֵף) has the numerical value of five hundred (גִּימַטְרִיָּא ת״ק), and they are the five Chesadim included from ten (וְהֵם ה׳ חֲסָדִים כְּלוּלִים מִי׳), and ten from ten (וְי׳ מִי׳), behold five hundred (הֲרֵי ת״ק), and corresponding to them the five Gevurot ascend to five hundred (וּכְמוֹהֶם ה׳ גְּבוּרוֹת עוֹלִים ת״ק), they are the second shoulder (הֵם כָּתֵף שְׁנִיָּה), and they are in the secret of the day of the Holy One, blessed be He, which is one thousand years (וְהֵם בְּסוֹד יוֹמוֹ שֶׁל הקב״ה שֶׁהוּא אֶלֶף שָׁנָה) (Sanhedrin 97a). In the secret of (בְּסוֹד): “And he shall have the two joined shoulders” (שְׁתֵּי כְתֵפוֹת חֹבְרוֹת יִהְיֶה לוֹ) (Exodus 28). “And one shall be destroyed” (וְחַד חָרוּב) (Rosh Hashanah 31a), to allude to Malkhut (לִרְמוֹז אֶל מַלְכוּת), which is the seventh world (שֶׁהִיא הָעוֹלָם הַשְּׁבִיעִי), which was destroyed and nullified (שֶׁנֶּחְרְבָה וְנִתְבַּטְּלָה), and did not reign at all (וְלֹא מָלְכָה כְּלוּם), therefore in the seventh millennium the world shall be destroyed (לְפִיכָךְ בָּאֶלֶף הַשְּׁבִיעִי יִהְיֶה הָעוֹלָם חָרֵב), and shall not function at all (וְלֹא יְשַׁמֵּשׁ כְּלוּם), and in the eighth millennium the Holy One, blessed be He, shall renew a new world (וּבָאֶלֶף הַשְּׁמִינִי יְחַדֵּשׁ הקב״ה עוֹלָם חָדָשׁ): “No eye has seen, O Elohim, besides You, what He shall do for the one who waits for Him” (עַיִן לֹא רָאָתָה אֱלֹהִים זוּלָתְךָ יַעֲשֶׂה לִמְחַכֶּה לוֹ) (Isaiah 64).
