Chapter Forty-Seven (פֶּרֶק אַרְבָּעִים וְשִׁבְעָה)

The secret of the breasts that nurse the milk (סוֹד הַשָּׁדַיִם שֶׁמֵּינִיקוֹת הֶחָלָב), and from them the milk emerges to Ze’ir Anpin and his Nukvah, who are the children (וּמֵהֶם יוֹצֵא הֶחָלָב לִזְעִיר וְנוּקְבֵיהּ שֶׁהֵם הַבָּנִים), and I have already told you (וּכְבָר אָמַרְתִּי לְךָ), that above there is no physical thing whatsoever (שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה אֵין שׁוּם דָּבָר גַּשְׁמִי), Heaven forbid and Heaven forbid to believe this (חָלִילָה וְחַס מֵלְהַאֲמִין זֶה), rather they are great and awesome Names (אֶלָּא הֵם שֵׁמוֹת גְּדוֹלִים וְנוֹרָאִים), operating in spirituality (הַפּוֹעֲלִים בְּרוּחָנִיּוּת), corresponding by way of analogy to the physical limbs in physicality (דּוּגְמַת הָאֵיבָרִים הַגַּשְׁמִיִּים בְּגַשְׁמִיּוּת), by way of metaphor (עַל דֶּרֶךְ מָשָׁל). And it is necessary to know and investigate (וְצָרִיךְ לָדַעַת וְלַחְקֹר), what are these Names that are called breasts (מָה אֵלּוּ הַשֵּׁמוֹת הַנִּקְרָאִים שָׁדַיִם), and they are in the secret of “And Hashem passed by” (וְהֵם בְּסוֹד וַיַּעֲבֹר יהו״ה) (Exodus 34:6), which is the letters Ayin-Bet [72] and Reish-Yud-Vav [216] (שֶׁהוּא אוֹתִיּוֹת ע״ב רי״ו), and Ayin-Bet [72] is on the right side of Binah (וְע״ב הוּא מִימִינָהּ שֶׁל בִּינָה), and Reish-Yud-Vav [216] is on the left side of Binah (וְרי״ו הוּא בִּשְׂמֹאל בִּינָה), namely in the two breasts, right and left, of Binah (דְּהַיְנוּ בִּשְׁנֵי שָׁדַיִם שֶׁל יָמִין וּשְׂמֹאל שֶׁל בִּינָה), which is the mother who nurses the children (שֶׁהִיא הָאֵם הַמֵּינֶקֶת הַבָּנִים). And Havayah is in the middle (יהו״ה הִיא בָּאֶמְצַע), which is the milk itself (שֶׁהִיא הֶחָלָב עַצְמָהּ), and all together rise to the numerical value of Shaddai (שֶׁעוֹלֶה הַכֹּל כְּמִנְיַן שַׁדַּ״י), an expression of breasts (לְשׁוֹן שָׁדַיִם). It follows that Ayin-Bet [72], Reish-Yud-Vav [216], and Kaf-Vav [26] rise to Shaddai (נִמְצָא שֶׁע״ב רי״ו כ״ו עוֹלֶה שַׁדַּ״י), just as the breasts are called right and left (כְּמוֹ שֶׁהַשָּׁדַיִם הֵם נִקְרָאִים יָמִין וּשְׂמֹאל), Eldad and Medad (אֵל־דָּד וּמֵידָד), so too they are called El-Shaddai (כְּמוֹ כֵן נִקְרָאִים אֵ״ל שַׁדַּ״י). And likewise Kuf-Samekh-Aleph [161] and Kuf-Mem-Gimel [143] (וְכֵן קס״א קמ״ג), together with ten letters, which are their root (עִם עֶשֶׂר אוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁהוּא הַשּׁוֹרֶשׁ שֶׁלָּהֶם), rise to Shaddai (עוֹלֶה שַׁדַּ״י). And Kuf-Samekh-Aleph [161] is the filling of Ehyeh with Yudin, like this: Aleph, Heh-Yud, Yud, Heh-Yud (וְקס״א הוּא מִלּוּי אֶהְיֶ״ה בְּיוּדִי״ן, כָּזֶה: אֶלֶ״ף הֵ״י יוּ״ד הֵ״י), and Kuf-Mem-Gimel is the filling of Ehyeh with Alephin (וְקמ״ג הוּא מִלּוּי אֶהְיֶ״ה בְּאַלְפִין), like this: Aleph, Heh-Aleph, Yud, Heh-Aleph (כָּזֶה: אֶלֶ״ף הֶ״א יוּ״ד הֶ״א). And likewise the Name Elohim, divide it into three parts (וְכֵן שֵׁם אֱלֹהִי״ם תְּחַלְּקֵהוּ לִשְׁלֹשָׁה חֲלָקִים), like this: El-Heh Mi [Who] (כָּזֶה: אֵל־ה מִי), namely El on the right and Mi [Who] on the left (דְּהַיְנוּ אֵ״ל מִימִין וּמִ״י מִשְּׂמֹאל), with Heh in the middle of the two breasts (ה׳ בָּאֶמְצַע הַב׳ שָׁדַיִם), and this is the secret of Eldad and Medad (וְזֶהוּ סוֹד אֵל דָּד וּמִי דָּד), meaning, one El-Dad (פֵּרוּשׁ אֵל־דַּ״ד אֶחָד), and the other Mi-Dad (וּמִי דַּ״ד אַחֶרֶת), and when Binah nurses the children (וּכְשֶׁמֵּינִיקַת לַבָּנִים בִּינָה), she is called El-Shaddai (נִקְרֵאת אֵל שַׁדַּי), an expression of breasts (לְשׁוֹן שָׁדַיִם), because the breasts pour forth milk to the children (עַל שֵׁם שֶׁהַשָּׁדַיִם מְרִיקִים חָלָב לַבָּנִים). And the letter Heh of Elohim has two forms (וְאוֹת ה׳ שֶׁל אֱלֹהִים יֵשׁ לָהּ שְׁתֵּי צוּרוֹת), like this: Dalet-Vav and Dalet-Yud (כָּזֶה: ד״ו וְד״י), and your sign is Dodi [my beloved] (וְסִימָנִיךְ דּוֹדִ״י). And Yud-Heh-Aleph of the filling of Heh rises to Chalav [Milk] (וִיהָ״א שֶׁל מִלּוּי ה״א עוֹלֶה חָלָ״ב), and furthermore (וְעוֹד), Heh is filled from the letters Yud-Heh-Aleph (ה״א מְלֵאָה מֵאוֹתִיּוֹת יְהָ״א), and the Heh itself rises to thirty-five (וְהַה״א עַצְמָהּ עוֹלָה ל״ה), and five from the numerical value of Heh rises to forty (וַחֲמִשָּׁה שֶׁל חֶשְׁבּוֹן ה׳ עוֹלֶה מ׳), corresponding to the numerical value of Chalav [Milk] (כְּמִנְיַן חָלָ״ב), behold (הֲרֵי), Heh rises two times to the numerical value of Chalav [Milk] (ה׳ עוֹלָה שְׁנֵי פְּעָמִים כְּמִנְיַן חָלָ״ב). From the Heh that is in the middle (מִן הַה׳ שֶׁבָּאֶמְצַע), Chalav [Milk] will ascend to the right Dad [Breast], which is El (יַעֲלֶה חָלָ״ב לְדַ״ד יָמִין שֶׁהוּא אֵ״ל), and to the left Dad [Breast], which is Mi [Who] (וּלְדַ״ד שְׂמֹאל שֶׁהוּא מִ״י), just as from the Heh of Elohim (כְּשֵׁם שֶׁמִּן ה׳ שֶׁל אֱלֹהִים), the numerical value of Chalav [Milk] is joined two times (יְצוֹרַף מִנְיַן חָלָ״ב בִּשְׁנֵי פְּעָמִים), as stated (כָּאָמוּר), and this is the secret of Eldad and Medad (וְזֶהוּ סוֹד אֶלְדָּד וּמֵידָד).

And one may ask why Eldad and Medad came in the camp (וְיֵשׁ לִשְׁאוֹל לָמָּה בָּאוּ אֶלְדָּד וּמֵידָד בַּמַּחֲנֶה), and did not go out to the Tent with the others (וְלֹא יָצְאוּ הָאֹהֱלָה עִם הָאֲחֵרִים), after they were among those written down (אַחַר שֶׁהָיוּ בַּכְּתוּבִים), and our Rabbis of blessed memory said that they were saying, “Moshe will die and Yehoshua will bring them into the Land” (וְאָמְרוּ רַזַּ״ל שֶׁהָיוּ אוֹמְרִים מֹשֶׁה מֵת וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ מַכְנִיס לָאָרֶץ) (Sanhedrin 17a). But the secret is (אֲבָל הַסּוֹד הוּא), that they were brothers of Moshe through the mother (שֶׁהֵם אַחִים לְמֹשֶׁה מֵאֵם), and they were from the Supernal World (וְהָיוּ מֵעָלְמָא עִילָּאָה), from the Generation of Knowledge (מִדּוֹר דֵּעָה), for from there was Moshe (כִּי מִשָּׁם הָיָה מֹשֶׁה), who died and did not enter the Land (מֵת וְלֹא נִכְנַס לָאָרֶץ), whereas only Yehoshua entered (כִּי אִם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ), who is from Ze’ir Anpin from his navel and below (שֶׁהוּא מִזְּעִיר אַנְפִּין מִטַּבּוּרוֹ וּלְמַטָּה). And the verse says, “And there remained men in the camp” (וַיִּשָּׁאֲרוּ אֲנָשִׁים בַּמַּחֲנֶה) (Numbers 11:26), because the breasts are outside the body (שֶׁהַשָּׁדַיִם הֵם חוּץ לַגּוּף), and it further says, “And they were among those written down” (וְהֵמָּה בַּכְּתוּבִים) (Numbers 11:26), because they were from the thighs of Arich Anpin (מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהָיוּ מִן הַשּׁוֹקַיִם שֶׁל אֲרִיךְ אַנְפִּין), which were included in the arms (שֶׁנִּכְלְלוּ בַּזְּרוֹעוֹת), and the thighs are “the written ones” (וְשׁוֹקַיִם הֵם הַכְּתוּבִים), as is known (כַּנּוֹדָע). And you should also know (וְגַם תֵּדַע), that at the time when Binah nurses the children (כִּי בִּזְמַן שֶׁהַבִּינָה מֵינִיקָה לַבָּנִים), she is then called El-Shaddai (נִקְרֵאת אָז אֵל־שַׁדַּי), after the breasts which pour forth milk to the children (עַל שֵׁם הַשָּׁדַיִם שֶׁמְּרִיקִים הֶחָלָב לַבָּנִים), throughout the entire time of nursing, which is two years (כָּל זְמַן הַיְנִיקָה שֶׁהוּא שְׁתֵּי שָׁנִים). And throughout the entire time that she nurses (וְגַם כָּל זְמַן שֶׁהִיא מֵינֶקֶת), then the Name Ehyeh within her is in its filling, which rises to Chalav [Milk] (אָז שֵׁם אֶהְיֶ״ה שֶׁבָּהּ הוּא בְּמִלּוּי שֶׁעוֹלֶה חָלָ״ב), for then this Name bestows upon Ze’ir Anpin and his Nukvah (כִּי אָז מַשְׁפִּיעַ זֶה הַשֵּׁם עַל ז״א וְנוּקְבֵיהּ), in the manner that I have written to you (עַל אוֹתוֹ הַדֶּרֶךְ שֶׁכָּתַבְתִּי לְךָ). But when she is not nursing (אֲבָל כְּשֶׁאֵינָהּ מֵינֶקֶת), then the Name Ehyeh in Binah rises to Kuf-Samekh-Vav [166] (אָז עוֹלֶה שֵׁם אֶהְיֶ״ה שֶׁבְּבִינָה קס״ו), like this: Aleph, Heh-Yud, Yud, Heh-Yud (כָּזֶה: אֶלֶ״ף הֵ״י יוּ״ד הֵ״י), together with the four letters and the inclusive total (עִם ד׳ אוֹתִיּוֹת וְהַכּוֹלֵל), Kuf-Samekh-Vav [166], corresponding to Elyon [Supernal] (קס״ו כְּמִנְיַן עֶלְיוֹן).

For now, when Imma is not nursing the children (כִּי עַתָּה שֶׁאֵינָהּ מֵינֶקֶת אִמָּא לַבָּנִים), she is called El Elyon Gomel [God Most High Who Weans] (נִקְרֵאת אֵל עֶלְיוֹן גּוֹמֵל), corresponding to this Name of praise (בְּעֵרֶךְ זֶה הַשֵּׁם שֶׁבַח), which rises to Elyon [Supernal] (שֶׁעוֹלֶה עֶלְיוֹן), and Gomel [Who Weans] is an expression of “when she had weaned him” (וְגוֹמֵל הוּא מִלְּשׁוֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר גְּמָלַתּוּ) (I Samuel 1:24), and behold she has weaned him (וַהֲרֵי גְּמָלַתּוּ), for she no longer has milk (שֶׁאֵין לָהּ חָלָב עוֹד), and when she is nursing she is called El-Shaddai (וּכְשֶׁמֵּינֶקֶת נִקְרֵאת אֵל שַׁדַּי), an expression of breasts (לְשׁוֹן שָׁדַיִם), as I have written (כַּאֲשֶׁר כָּתַבְתִּי). And at the end of the nursing (וּבְסוֹף הַיְנִיקָה), she also bestowed Leah upon Ze’ir Anpin (הִשְׁפִּיעָה גַּם כֵּן אֶת לֵאָה לְז״א), who is the secret of half of the tail (שֶׁהִיא סוֹד חֲצִי הַזָּנָב), and she clothes him from behind (וְהִיא מַלְבֶּשֶׁת מֵאַחֲרָיו), from the place of the Luz [coccyx bone] to the navel (מִמְּקוֹם הַלּוּז עַד הַטַּבּוּר), which is the head of Rachel (שֶׁהוּא רֹאשׁ רָחֵל), as I have written in chapter thirty-eight in this gate (כַּאֲשֶׁר כָּתַבְתִּי בְּפֶרֶק ל״ח בַּשַּׁעַר הַזֶּה).
