Daf 65a (דַּף ס״ה ע״א)

For it descended below and became Yod–Vav Yod, in the mystery of Alef, which contains Yod, Vav, Yod (כִּי הִיא יָרְדָה לְמַטָּה וְנַעֲשֵׂית י״ו י׳ בְּסוֹד אָלֶ״ף שֶׁיֵּשׁ בָּהּ יוֹ״ד וָא״ו יוֹ״ד), and afterward it ascended Above again (וְאַחַ״כ נִסְתַּלְּקָה לְמַעְלָה); see Hatchalat HaChokhmah, Chapter Six (עַיֵּן בְּהַתְחָלַת הַחָכְמָה פֶּרֶק שִׁשִּׁי). Therefore the Zohar says, “Yehi, concerning the mystery of Abba and Imma, which is Yah” (וְלָכֵן אוֹמֵר הַזֹּהַר יְהִי עַל רָזָא דְּאַבָּא וְאִמָּא דְּאִיהוּ יָהּ), for just as the world was created through the Yod of S"G [Sixty-Three] and the Heh of the Name B"N [Fifty-Two] (כִּי כְּמוֹ שֶׁהָעוֹלָם נִבְרָא עַל יְדֵי יוֹ״ד שֶׁל ס״ג וְה״י שֶׁל שֵׁם ב״ן), so too in the World of Tohu and in the World of Tikkun [Rectification] everything was created through Yehi Ohr [Let There Be Light] (כֵּן בְּעוֹלָם הַתֹּהוּ וּבְעוֹלָם הַתִּקּוּן נִבְרָא הַכֹּל ע״י יְהִי אוֹר), which likewise alludes to Abba and Imma (שֶׁהוּא גַּם כֵּן נִרְמָז עַל אַבָּא וְאִמָּא), who brought the Kol [Voice] and the Dibbur [Speech] into the world (שֶׁהוֹלִידוּ הַקּוֹל וְהַדִּבּוּר בָּעוֹלָם), and they continue even today to perform their activity (וְהֵם פּוֹעֲלִים עוֹד הַיּוֹם פְּעֻלָּתָם), bringing forth Mochin [Mentalities] and Atarin [Crowns] for Ze'ir Anpin and Nukvah (וּמוֹלִידִים לִזְעֵיר וּלְנוּקְבֵיהּ מוֹחִין וְעַטְרִין), in the mystery of Mi [Who], which is Binah [Understanding] (בְּסוֹד מ״י שֶׁהִיא בִּינָה), “May Yaakov arise, for he is small” (יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב כִּי קָטֹן הוּא) (Amos 7:2), without Mochin [Mentalities] (בְּלִי מוֹחִין), and his stature is not complete (וְאֵין קוֹמָתוֹ שְׁלֵמָה), but through the enclothement of the Netzach, Hod, and Yesod of Mi [Who] (אֲבָל ע״י הִתְלַבְּשׁוּת נה״י שֶׁל מ״י),p1-69 the Mochin [Mentalities] come to him and to his Nukvah (בָּאִים הַמּוֹחִין לוֹ וּלְנוּקְבֵיהּ).

“And afterward it returned to the Primordial Nekudah [Point], to show the beginning of the extension toward another word, namely Ohr [Light]” (וּלְבָתַר אִתְהַדַּר לִנְקוּדָּה קַדְמָאָה לְמַחֲוֵי שֵׁירוּתָא לְאִתְפַּשְּׁטָא לְמִלָּה אַחֲרָא דְּאִיהוּ אוֹר). That is to say, after this Yod had produced the Kelim [Vessels], as we have explained (ר״ל לְאַחַר שֶׁפָּעֲלָה הַיוֹ״ד הַזֹּאת הוֹצָאַת הַכֵּלִים כִּדְפֵרַשְׁנוּ), Avir [Air] became Ohr [Light] (נַעֲשָׂה מֵאֲוִיר אוֹר), because the Nekudah [Point] was separated from the letters of Ohr [Light], where previously it had stood between the Vav and the Resh of the word Ohr [Light] (כִּי נִבְדְּלָה הַנְּקוּדָּה מֵאוֹתִיּוֹת אוֹר שֶׁהָיְתָה קֹדֶם בֵּין וָי״ו לְרֵי״שׁ שֶׁל מִלַּת אוֹר), and the Reshimu [Impression] of the Essence was separated to one side (וְהוּבְדְּלָה הָרְשִׁימוּ שֶׁל הָעַצְמִיּוּת לְצַד אַחֵר), while the Yod of the Primordial Avir [Air] was separated to another side (וְהַיוֹ״ד שֶׁל אֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן לְצַד אַחֵר), and afterward this Avir [Air], called the Primordial Nekudah [Point], returned (וְאַחַ״כ אִתְהַדַּר הָאֲוִיר הַזֶּה שֶׁנִּקְרָא נְקוּדָּה קַדְמָאָה), that is to say, the Primordial Avir [Air], which became a world unto itself above the Tehiru and at its corners (פֵּי׳ אֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן שֶׁנַּעֲשָׂה עוֹלָם בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ עַל הַטְּהִירוּ וּבְקַרְנוֹתָיו), in order to bestow from there the Avir [Air] of the Ruach HaKodesh [Holy Spirit] upon those worthy of it (לְהַשְׁפִּיעַ מִשָּׁם אֲוִיר רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ לָרְאוּיִים אֵלָיו), as is written in Ma'ayan Chokhmah, composed by Moshe Rabbenu, peace be upon him (כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב בְּסֵפֶר מַעְיַן חָכְמָה שֶׁחִבֵּר מֹשֶׁה רַבֵּנוּ ע״ה), “and it is the beginning” (וְאִיהוּ הַתְחָלָה), namely “the beginning of the extension toward another word” (דְּהַיְינוּ שֵׁירוּתָא לְאִתְפַּשְּׁטָא לְמִלָּה אַחֲרָא), and this separation was the beginning (וְהַהַבְדָּלָה הַזֹּאת הָיְתָה הַהַתְחָלָה), namely the beginning (דְּהַיְינוּ שֵׁירוּתָא), to distinguish between the Ohr [Light] of Adam Kadmon and the Avir [Air], which is the Primordial Nekudah [Point], the mystery of the Primordial Avir [Air] (לְהַבְדִּיל בֵּין אוֹר שֶׁל אָדָם קַדְמוֹן וּבֵין אֲוִיר שֶׁהוּא נְקוּדָּה קַדְמָאָה סוֹד אֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן), and it was no longer called by the name Avir [Air] (וְלֹא נִקְרָא עוֹד בְּשֵׁם אֲוִיר).

Notes

  1. Compare Emek HaMelekh, Part III, Gate 16, Chapter 1 (רְאוּ עֵמֶק הַמֶּלֶךְ, ב, שַׁעַר טז, פֶּרֶק א): “Concerning the Binah [Understanding], which gives the Mochin [Mentalities] to Ze'ir Anpin (עַל הַבִּינָה שֶׁנּוֹתֶנֶת הַמּוֹחִין לִזְעֵיר אַנְפִּין), the verse says, ‘May Yaakov arise, for he is small’ (אוֹמֵר הַפָּסוּק מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב כִּי קָטֹן הוּא) (Amos 7:2), for his head is like that of a youth (שֶׁיֵּשׁ לוֹ רֹאשׁ כְּמוֹ נַעַר), but Mi [Who], which is the Binah [Understanding] with its fifty gates (אֲבָל מ״י שֶׁהִיא הַבִּינָה בַּחֲמִשִּׁים שְׁעָרֶיהָ), will raise up Yaakov, namely Ze'ir Anpin (יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב דְּהַיְינוּ זְעֵיר), for he is small in the rectifications of the head (כִּי קָטֹן הוּא בְּתִקּוּנֵי הָרֹאשׁ).
