Chapter 1, Section 1 (פֶּרֶק א׳ אוֹת א׳)

1. Rabbi Yishma’el said (א אָמַר רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל), what is the difference in the songs that one would say (מָה הַפֶּרֶשׁ שִׁירוֹת שֶׁהָיָה אוֹמֵר), for one who sought to gaze upon the vision of the Merkavah (מִי שֶׁבִּיקֵּשׁ לְהִסְתַּכֵּל בִּצְפִיַּת הַמֶּרְכָּבָה), to descend in peace and to ascend in peace (לֵרֵד בְּשָׁלוֹם וְלַעֲלוֹת בְּשָׁלוֹם).
