Chapter 17, Section 1 (פֶּרֶק י״ז אוֹת א׳)

1. Rabbi Yishma‘el said (א. אָמַר רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל): Thus said Rabbi Nechunyah ben haKanah (כָּךְ אָמַר רַבִּי נְחוּנְיָא בֶּן הַקָּנָה): In seven Heichalot sits Totrosiya"y Hashem, God of Yisrael (בְּשִׁבְעָה הֵיכָלוֹת יוֹשֵׁב טוֹטְרוֹסִיאָ״י ה׳ אֱלֹקֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל), chamber within chamber (חֶדֶר בְּתוֹךְ חֶדֶר), and at the entrance of each and every Heichal (וּבְפֶתַח כָּל הֵיכָל וְהֵיכָל), there are gatekeepers of the threshold (שׁוֹמְרֵי הַסַּף): eight-four to the right of the lintel (שְׁמוֹנָה, אַרְבָּעָה מִימִין הַמַּשְׁקוֹף), and four to the left of the lintel (וְאַרְבָּעָה לִשְׂמֹאל הַמַּשְׁקוֹף).
