Chapter 20, Section 4 (פֶּרֶק כ׳ אוֹת ד׳)

4. And we asked him (ד. וּבִקַּשְׁנוּ מִמֶּנּוּ): “Who is of the Riders of the Merkavah, and who is not of the Riders of the Merkavah?” (מִי הוּא מִיוֹרְדֵי מֶרְכָּבָה וְלֹא מִיוֹרְדֵי מֶרְכָּבָה). He said to us (אָמַר לָנוּ): “These are people whom the Riders of the Merkavah would take (אֵלּוּ בְנֵי אָדָם שֶׁהָיוּ לוֹקְחִין אוֹתָם יוֹרְדֵי מֶרְכָּבָה), and set them above themselves (וּמַעֲמִידִין אוֹתָם לְמַעְלָה מֵהֶם), and seat them before them (וּמוֹשִׁיבִין אוֹתָם לִפְנֵיהֶם), and say to them (וְאוֹמְרִין לָהֶם): ‘Gaze and see (צְפוּ וּרְאוּ), and listen and write (וְהַאֲזִינוּ וּכְתְבוּ), all that I speak (כָּל מַה שֶּׁאֲנִי אוֹמֵר), and all that we hear from before the Throne of Glory’ (וְכָל מַה שֶּׁאֲנַחְנוּ שׁוֹמְעִין מִלִּפְנֵי כִּסֵּא הַכָּבוֹד).” And those people are not worthy of this (וְאוֹתָם בְּנֵי אָדָם אֵינָם הֲגוּנִים לְכָךְ); therefore the gatekeepers of the entrance to the sixth Heikhal would encounter them (לְפִיכָךְ הָיוּ פּוֹגְעִין בָּהֶם שׁוֹמְרֵי פֶתַח הֵיכָל הַשִּׁשִּׁי). Be careful (הֲיוּ זְהִירִין), that you select for yourselves worthy people (שֶׁתְּבָרְרוּ לָכֶם בְּנֵי אָדָם כְּשֵׁרִים), and they are of the Friends who have been verified (וְהֵן חֲבֵרִים הַבְּדוּקִין).
