Chapter 31, Section 3 (פֶּרֶק ל״א אוֹת ג׳)

3. Rabbi Akiva said: I heard a voice going forth from beneath the Throne of Glory (ג. אָמַר רַבִּי עֲקִיבָא: שָׁמַעְתִּי קוֹל יוֹצֵא מִתַּחַת כִּסֵּא הַכָּבוֹד), saying-And what was it saying? (אוֹמֵר. וּמַה הָיָה אוֹמֵר): I took him (לְקַחְתִּיו), I grasped him (אָחַזְתִּיו), I appointed him (פְּקַדְתִּיו). This is Chanoch the son of Yered (זֶה חֲנוֹךְ בֶּן יֶרֶד), whose name is Metatron (שֶׁשְּׁמוֹ מֶטַטְרוֹ״ן), and I took him from among human beings (וּנְטַלְתִּיו מִבְּנֵי אָדָם), and made for him a throne corresponding to My Throne (וְעָשִׂיתִי לוֹ כִּסֵּא כְּנֶגֶד כִּסְאִי). And what is the measure of that throne? (וְכַמָּה שִׁיעוּר שֶׁל אוֹתוֹ כִּסֵּא) One thousand thousands of myriads of parasangs of fire (אֶלֶף אַלְפֵי רְבָבוֹת פַּרְסָאוֹת שֶׁל אֵשׁ). And I handed over to him seventy angels corresponding to the seventy nations (וּמָסַרְתִּי שִׁבְעִים מַלְאָכִים כְּנֶגֶד שִׁבְעִים אֻמּוֹת), and I appointed into his hand all the heavenly host (וּפָקַדְתִּי בְּיָדוֹ כָּל פַּמַלְיָא שֶׁל מַעְלָה), and all the earthly host (וְכָל פַּמַלְיָא שֶׁל מַטָּה). And I arranged for him all the orders of Creation (וְסִדַּרְתִּי לוֹ כָּל סִדְרֵי בְּרֵאשִׁית), and I placed upon him My Name Ad’nai haKatan [the Lesser Adonai] (וְשַׂמְתִּי שְׁמוֹ אֲדנ״י הַקָּטָן), whose numerical value is seventy-onep1-0 (שֶׁשְּׁמוֹ בְּגִימַטְרִיָּא שִׁבְעִים וְאֶחָד). And I gave to him wisdom and understanding more than all the angels (וְנָתַתִּי לוֹ חָכְמָה וּבִינָה יֹתֵר מִכָּל הַמַּלְאָכִים), and I made his greatness greater than all the ministering angels (וְעָשִׂיתִי לוֹ גְּדוּלָּה יוֹתֵר מִכָּל מַלְאֲכֵי הַשָּׁרֵת).
