Chapter 40, Section 1 (פֶּרֶק מ׳ אוֹת א׳)
1. And the elders shall look upon him, for he is despised and clothed in rags (א. וַיַּבִּיטוּ הַזְּקֵנִים כִּי הוּא נִבְזֶה וּלְבוּשׁ בְּלוֹאִים), they shall despise him as they once despised the elders (יִבְזוּ אוֹתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר בָּזְתָה אֶת הַזְּקֵנִים), for he is despised (כִּי הוּא נִבְזֶה). And his wrath shall burn within him (וְתִבְעַר בּוֹ חֲמָתוֹ), and he shall remove his garments from upon him (וְיָסַר בְּגָדָיו מֵעָלָיו), and he shall clothe himself in garments of vengeance for attire (וְיִלְבַּשׁ בִּגְדֵי נָקָם תַּלְבּוֹשֶׁת). And Eliyahu the prophet shall come with him (וְיָבוֹא עִמּוֹ אֵלִיָּהוּ הַנָּבִיא), and they shall go to Jerusalem (וְיֵלְכוּ לִירוּשָׁלִַם), and he shall resurrect Nechemyah ben Chushiel (וִיחַיֶּה אֶת נְחֶמְיָה בֶּן חוּשִׁיאֵל), who was buried at the gates of Jerusalem (הַנִּקְבָּר בִּשְׁעָרֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם). And they shall go to the congregation of Israel (וְיֵלְכוּ אֶל עֲדַת יִשְׂרָאֵל), and the Children of Israel shall see him—for Nechemyah is with him (וְיִרְאֻהוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי נְחֶמְיָה עִמּוֹ), and they shall believe in Menachem ben Amiel (וְיַאֲמִינוּ בְּמְנַחֵם בֶּן עַמִּיאֵל). A matter [spoken by] Matatron and Micha’el, prince of the host of Hashem (דְּבַר מְטַטְרוֹ״ן וּמִיכָאֵ״ל שַׂר צְבָא ה׳): “Indeed, Ephraim shall not envy Yehudah” (Isaiah 11:13) (בֶּאֱמֶת: אֶפְרַיִם לֹא יְקַנֵּא אֶת יְהוּדָה), “and the counsel of peace shall be between them” (Zechariah 6:13) (וַעֲצַת שָׁלוֹם תִּהְיֶה בֵינֵיהֶם). And on the twenty-seventh of the first month (וּבְשִׁבְעָה וְעֶשְׂרִים לַחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשׁוֹן), Jerusalem, which was in ruins for eight hundred and ninety years (חֲרָבוֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַם שְׁמוֹנֶה מֵאוֹת וְתִשְׁעִים שָׁנָה), shall be redeemed—salvation is for Hashem (תְּשׁוּעָה לַה׳).
