Chapter 6, Section 2 (פֶּרֶק ו׳ אוֹת ב׳)

2. Rabbi Yishma’el said (ב אָמַר רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל): what did VeHadri’el, Hashem God of Yisrael, do? (מָה עָשָׂה וְהַדְרִיאֵ״ל ה׳ אֱלֹקֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל) He did not interrupt for the scribe (לֹא הִפְסִיק לוֹ לַסּוֹפֵר), “Write decrees and great plagues” (כְּתוֹב גְּזֵרוֹת וּמַכּוֹת גְּדוֹלוֹת), that were filled against Sama’el the wicked (שֶׁנִתְמַלֵּא עַל סַמָּאֵ״ל הָרָשָׁע), who accepted upon himself all these conditions (שֶׁקִּבֵּל עָלָיו כָּל הַתְּנָאִים הָאֵלּוּ). Rather, He Himself took a tablet (אֶלָּא נָטַל הוּא בְּעַצְמוֹ נִיר), and wrote upon it: “For the day of vengeance that is destined” (וְכָתַב עָלָיו לְיוֹם נְקָמָה שֶׁעָתִיד), and reserved for wicked Rome (וּשְׁמוּר לְרוֹמִי הָרְשָׁעָה): one cloud shall rise (תַּעֲלֶה עָנָן אַחַת), and it shall remain above Rome (וְתִשְׁמוֹר לְמַעְלָה מֵרוֹמִי), and it shall bring down moist boils (וּתוֹרִיד שְׁחִין לַח), upon man, and upon beast, and upon silver, and upon gold, and upon vessels of metal (עַל הָאָדָם וְעַל הַבְּהֵמָה וְעַל הַכֶּסֶף וְעַל הַזָּהָב וְעַל כְּלֵי מַתְּכוֹת), for three months (שְׁלוֹשָׁה חֳדָשִׁים). And afterward another cloud shall rise (וְאַחַר כָּךְ תַּעֲלֶה עָנָן אַחֶרֶת), and it shall see its companion (וְתִרְאֶה אֶת חֲבֶרְתָּהּ), and it shall remain in its place for six months (וְתַעֲמוֹד בִּמְקוֹמָהּ שִׁשָּׁה חֳדָשִׁים), and it shall bring down a plague of Tzara‘at [Leprous Affliction], Sappachat [Sap-Like Lesion], and Baheret [Bright Spot] upon Rome (וְתוֹרִיד נֶגַע צָרַעַת סַפַּחַת בַּהֶרֶת עַל רוֹמִי), until a man shall say (עַד שֶׁיֹּאמַר אָדָם): “Woe to you, Rome, and all that is in you, for a coin!” (הוֹי לָךְ רוֹמִי וְכָל אֲשֶׁר בָּךְ בִּפְרוּטָה), and he shall say: “It is not even sought after” (וְיֹאמַר: אֵינָהּ מִתְבַּקֶּשֶׁת).
