These two Thrones - one is on the right, and one on the left And that black firmament throne is on the right (וְהַהוּא כֻּרְסְיָיא דִּרְקִיעָא אוּכְמָא מִיָּמִינָא), and that purple firmament throne is on the left (וְהַהוּא כֻּרְסְיָיא דִּרְקִיעָא סַסְגוֹנָא מִשְּׂמָאלָא). When they ascend in the black firmament throne (כַּד סָלְקִין בְּכֻּרְסְיָיא דִּרְקִיעָא אוּכְמָא), the left firmament throne bends toward it, and they descend into it (מָאִיךְ כֻּרְסְיָיא דִּרְקִיעָא שְׂמָאלָא וְנָחֲתִין בֵּיהּ).

The Thrones roll one into the other [some say: they descend and take hold] (מִתְגַּלְגְּלִין כָּרְסְוָון חַד בְּחַד [ס״א נָחֲתִין וְנָקְטִין]), taking in all the nets within themselves (נָקְטִין כָּל אִנּוּן רִשְׁתִּין בְּגַוַּיְיהוּ), and they descend them into the depths of the lower abyss (וְעָאלִין לוֹן בְּשִׁפּוֹלָא דִּתְהוֹמָא תַּתָּאָה). One throne stands and ascends above all the abysses (קָאִים חַד כֻּרְסְיָיא וְסָלִיק לְעֵילָא מִכָּל אִנּוּן תְּהוֹמֵי), and another throne stands below all the abysses (וְקָאִים כֻּרְסְיָיא אָחֳרָא לְתַתָּא דְּכָל תְּהוֹמֵי). Between these two Thrones all the abysses roll (בֵּין תְּרֵין כָּרְסְוָון אִלֵּין מִתְגַּלְגְּלִין כָּל אִנּוּן תְּהוֹמֵי), and all the conduits are embedded between these two Thrones (וְכָל אִנּוּן צִנּוֹרִין אִתְנְעָצוּ בֵּין תְּרֵין כָּרְסְוָון אִלֵּין).

There are seventy-five conduits [some say: lights] (שִׁבְעִין וְחָמֵשׁ [ד״א ל״ג נְהוֹרִין] צִנּוֹרִין אִנּוּן), of which seven are the supernal ones of all (שִׁבְעָה אִנּוּן עִלָּאֵי דְּכֹלָּא), and all the others are held by them (וְכָל אִנּוּן אָחֳרָנִין אֲחִידָן בְּהוּ). All of them are embedded in the wheels of this throne on this side (וְכֻלְהוּ נְעִיצֵי בְּגַלְגְּלוֹי דְּהַאי כֻּרְסְיָיא בְּסִטְרָא דָא), and embedded in the wheels of that throne on the other side (וּנְעִיצִין בְּגַלְגְּלוֹי דְהַאי כֻּרְסְיָיא בְּסִטְרָא דָא). Within them waters [some say: within the abyss] rise and fall Those that descend settle in the abysses and cleave through them Those that rise ascend above into the stone females and fill seven seas Up to here are seven hues of light in a supernal mystery

Seven other lights divide into seven seas (שִׁבְעָה נְהוֹרִין אָחֳרָנִין מִתְפַּלְּגִין לְשִׁבְעָה יַמִּין), and one sea encompasses them all (וְיַמָּא חַד כָּלִיל לוֹן). That one sea is the supernal sea in which all seven seas are included These seven lights enter into that sea and strike it [some say: to seventy] to seven directions (שִׁבְעָה נְהוֹרִין אִלֵּין עָאלִין לְגוֹ הַהוּא יַמָּא וּמָחָאן לֵיהּ לְיַמָּא [לְשִׁבְעִין] לְשִׁבְעָה סִטְרִין), and each direction is divided into seven streams (וְכָל סִטְרָא וְסִטְרָא אִתְפְּלַג לְשִׁבְעָה נַחֲלִין), as it is written [Yeshayahu 11] (כְּדִכְתִיב): “And He shall smite it into seven streams…” And each stream was divided into seven rivers (וְכָל נַחֲלָא וְנַחֲלָא אִתְפְּלַג לְשִׁבְעָה נְהָרִין), and each river into seven paths (וְכָל נַהֲרָא וְנַהֲרָא אִתְפְּלַג לְשִׁבְעָה אָרְחִין), and each path into seven lanes (וְכָל אוֹרְחָא וְאוֹרְחָא אִתְפְּלַג לְשִׁבְעָה שְׁבִילִין). And all the waters of the sea entered into their innermost being

Seven lights ascend and descend into seven directions Seven supernal lights enter into the sea Six of them, and one emerges from above Just as the sea receives, so it divides its waters to all those seas (כְּמָה דְּנָטִיל יַמָּא הָכִי פָּלִיג מֵימוֹי לְכָל אִנּוּן יַמִּין), to all those rivers (לְכָל אִנּוּן נְהָרִין). One serpent below on the left side swims through all those rivers (חַד תַּנִינָא לְתַתָּא בִּסְטַר שְׂמָאלָא שָׁאַט בְּכָל אִנּוּן נְהָרִין), and comes on the side of its scales, all of them strong like iron (אָתֵי בִּסְטַר קַשְׂקְשׂוֹי כֻּלְהוֹן תַּקִּיפִין כְּפַרְזְלָא), and reaches to draw and draws its place (וּמָטֵי לְשָׁאֲבָא וְשָׁאִיב אַתְרָהּ). And all those lights are darkened before it Its mouth and tongue flame with fire (פּוּמֵיהּ וְלִישְׁנֵיהּ מְלַהֲטָא אֶשָׁא), the sharpness of its tongue is like a fierce sword (חָדוּד לִישְׁנֵיהּ כְּחַרְבָּא תַּקִּיפָא).

Until it comes to enter the sanctuary within the Sea (עַד דְּמָטֵי לְמֵיעַל לְמַקְדְּשָׁא גּוֹ יַמָּא), and then it muddies the sanctuary and the lights darken (וּכְדֵין סָאִיב מַקְדְּשָׁא וְאִתְחַשְׁכָן נְהוֹרִין). And the supernal lights ascend from the Sea Then the sea divides its waters toward the left side (כְּדֵין יַמָּא מִתְפַּלְגִין מֵימוֹי בִּסְטַר שְׂמָאלָא), and the sea stiffens and its waters no longer flow (וְיַמָּא קָאפֵי וְלָא נָגְדִין מֵימוֹי). And regarding this, the secret of the matter is as it is written: “Now the serpent was more cunning than all the beasts of the field that Hashem Elohim had made” [Bereshit 3] (וְעַל דָּא רָזָא דְּמִלָּה כְּמָה דִכְתִיב: וְהַנָּחָשׁ הָיָה עָרוּם מִכָּל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה י״י אֱלֹהִים).

The secret of the wicked serpent - it descends from below to above [some say: from above to below] (רָזָא דְּחִוְיָא בִישָׁא נָחִית מֵתַּתָּא לְעֵילָא [ס״י: מֵעֵילָא לְתַתָּא]), and it swims upon the face of bitter waters (וְהוּא שָׁאַט עַל אַפֵּי מַיִּין מְרִירָן), and descends to lure downward until they fall into its nets (וְנָחִית לְאַפְתֵּי לְתַתָּא עַד דְּיִפְּלוּן גּוֹ רִשְׁתּוֹי).

This serpent is the death of the world (הַאי חִוְיָא הִיא מוֹתָא דְּעָלְמָא), and it entered the closed belly of the human (וְהוּא עָאל בְּמֵעוֹי דְּסָתִים דְּבַר נָשׁ), which is on the left side (הוּא לִסְטַר שְׂמָאלָא). And there is another serpent - the place of life - on the right side Both of them go with the human (תַּרְוַויְיהוּ אָזְלֵי עִמֵּיהּ דְּבַר נָשׁ), as we have already established (כְּמָה דְּאוּקְמוּהָ).

“Of all the beasts of the field” - for all other animals of the field do not possess cunning to lure as this one does Because it is the 'dross' [impurity] of the gold Woe to whoever is drawn after it (וַוֵי לְמַאן דְּאִתְמְשִׁיךְ אַבַּתְרֵיהּ), for it causes death to him and to all who follow after it (דְּאִיהוּ גָרִים לֵיהּ מוֹתָא וּלְכָל דְּאַתְיָין אַבַּתְרֵיהּ). And this has already been established (וְהָא אוּקְמוּהָ).

Adam was drawn after it downward (אָדָם אִתְמְשִׁיךְ אַבַּתְרֵיהּ לְתַתָּא), and descended to seek knowledge in all that is below (וְנָחִית לְמִנְדַּע בְּכָל מַה דִּלְתַתָּא). And just as he descended, so too his will and path were drawn after them (כְּמָה דְּנָחִית, הָכִי אִתְמְשִׁיךְ רְעוּתֵיהּ וְאָרְחוֹי אַבַּתְרַיְיהוּ), until they reached that serpent and saw the lusts of the world (עַד דְּמָטִין לְהַאי חִוְיָא וְחָמוּ תֵּיאוּבְתֵּיהּ דְּעָלְמָא), and their paths wandered in that place (וְשָׁטוּ אָרְחוֹי בְּאֲתַר דָּא).

Then it arose and was drawn after them - after Adam and his wife (כְּדֵין קָם וְאִתְמְשִׁיךְ אִיהוּ אַבַּתְרַיְיהוּ דְּאָדָם וְאִתְּתֵיהּ), and it cleaved to them and caused them death (וְאִתְדָּבַּק בְּהוּ וְגָרִים לְהוּ מוֹתָא), and to all generations who came after them (וּבְכָל דָּרֵי דְּאָתוּ אַבַּתְרֵיהּ). Until Yisrael reached Mount Sinai, that impurity did not depart from the world And behold, it has been said (וְהָא אִתְּמָר): once they sinned and cleaved to the tree in which death rests below (כֵּיוָן דְּחָטוּ וְאִתְדַּבְּקוּ בְּאִילָנָא דְּשָׁרְיָא בֵּיהּ מוֹתָא לְתַתָּא), what is written? “And they heard the voice of Hashem Elohim walking in the Garden” (מַה כְּתִיב: וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ אֶת קוֹל י״י אֱלֹהִים מִתְהַלֵּךְ בַּגָּן). It is not written (mehalech) walking-but (mithalech) walking to and fro
