Daf 94b (דַּף צ״ד ע״ב)

Meanwhile, behold, the Sava descended to him (אַדְהָכִי, הָא סָבָא נָחַת לְגַבֵּיהּ), said to him (אֲמַר לֵיהּ), if so, Rabbi (אִי הָכִי, רַבִּי), what addition is there for the Neshama from her side (מַה תּוֹסֶפֶת לְנִשְׁמְתָא דְּאִיהִי מִנָּהּ), about whom it is stated (דְּאִתְּמַר בָּהּ), (Exodus 20) "You shall not do any work, you, your son, your daughter, your servant, etc." (לֹא תַעֲשֶׂה כָל מְלָאכָה אַתָּה וּבִנְךָ וּבִתֶךָ וְעַבְדְךָ וְגוֹ').

He said to him (אֲמַר לֵיהּ), Sava, Sava (סָבָא סָבָא), you ask this? (וְאַתְּ שָׁאִיל דָּא), For certainly this was said concerning the Neshama of the Tzaddik (דְּוַדַּאי הַאי עַל נִשְׁמְתָא דְּצַדִּיק אִתְּמַר), for even though it was obligated to reincarnate in all these (דְאַף עַל גַּב דְּאִתְחַיָּיב לְאַחֲתָא בְּגִלְגּוּלָא בְּכָל אִלֵּין), even in a servant or maidservant (אֲפִילּוּ בְּעֶבֶד וְאָמָה), or into cattle which are Ofanim (וּבְעִירָן דְּאִינּוּן אוֹפַנִּים), or into any animal (אוֹ בְּכָל חֵיוָן), from whom are the souls of human beings (דְּמִנְּהוֹן נִשְׁמָתִין דִּבְנִי נָשָׁא), it is written about her (כְּתִיב בָּהּ), "You shall not do any work" (לא תַּעֲשֶׂה כָל מְלָאכָה). And this corresponds to (Leviticus 25), "You shall not cause him to perform the labor of a slave" (לא תַעֲבֹד בּוֹ עֲבוֹדַת עָבֶד), concerning the Tzaddik who is the Shabbat day (בְּצַדִיק דְּאִיהוּ יוֹם הַשַּׁבָּת); you shall not perform with him slave labor (לא תַעֲבֹד בּוֹ עֲבוֹדַת עָבֶד), for he is not a weekday (דְּאִיהוּ יוֹם דְּחוֹל).

However, Sava, Sava (אֲבָל סָבָא סָבָא), Shabbat (שַׁבָּת), Some say: the Neshama (ד"א נִשְׁמְתָא), who is the only daughter (דְּאִיהִי בַּת יְחִידָה), and she is the mate of the Tzaddik (וְאִיהִי בַּת זוּגֵיהּ דְּצַדִּיק), who is Shabbat (דְּאִיהוּ שַׁבָּת). What is meant by (מַאי) "If he takes another to himself"? (אִם אַחֶרֶת יִקַּח לוֹ). He said to him (אֲמַר לֵיהּ), surely this refers to Havdalah (הָא וַדָאי הַבְדָלָה), the weekday following Shabbat (חוּלוֹ שֶׁל שַׁבָּת), for there is another who is not called the weekday of Shabbat (דְּאִית אַחֲרָא דְּלָא אִתְקְרִיאַת חוּלוֹ שֶׁל שַׁבָּת), but rather the weekday of impurity, the maidservant (אֶלָּא חוּלוֹ שֶׁל טֻמְאָה שִׁפְחָה). He said to him (אֲמַר לֵיהּ), and what is this weekday of Shabbat? (וְהָא חוּלוֹ שֶׁל שַׁבָּת מַאי הִיא). He said to him (אֲמַר לֵיהּ), it is the maidservant (דָּא אֲמָתָא), who is the body of the only daughter (דְּאִיהִי גּוּפָא דְּבַת יְחִידָה), concerning whom it was stated (דְּעָלָהּ אִתְּמַר), "If he takes another to himself" (אִם אַחֶרֶת יִקַּח לוֹ).

Come and see (תָּא חֲזִי), there is a Neshama who is called maidservant (נִשְׁמְתָא אִית דְּאִתְקְרִיאַת אָמָה), and there is Some say: a Neshama (נ"א: נִשְׁמְתָא), The Shekhinta that is called a handmaid (שְׁכִינְתָּא דְּאִתְקְרִיאַת שִׁפְחָה), and there is Some say: Neshama (נ"א: וְנִשְׁמְתָא), Shekhinta who is called daughter of the King (וְשְׁכִינְתָּא אִית דְּאִתְקְרִיאַת בְּרָתָא דְּמַלְכָּא). Here is an Ish (man) (הָכָא אִית אִישׁ), about whom it is written (דְּאִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ), (Exodus 15) "Hashem is an man of war" (יְיָ' אִישׁ מִלְחָמָה), and there is an Ish (וְאִית אִישׁ), about whom it is written (דְּאִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ), (Daniel 9) "And the Ish, Gavriel" (וְהָאִישׁ גַּבְרִיאֵל). And for this reason (וּבְגִין דָּא), the Neshama obligated in Gilgul (נִשְׁמְתָא דְּאִיהִי מִחַיְיבָא בְּגִלְגוּל), if she is a daughter of Kudsha Berikh Hu (אִם הִיא בְּרָתָא דְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), if you would say she is sold into a foreign body (אִי תֵּימָא דְּאִזְדְבָן בְּגוּפָא נוּכְרָאָה), where there is dominion of the Evil inclination from the side of Sama’el (דְּתַמָּן שֻׁלְטָנוּתָא דְּיֵצֶר הָרָע דְּאִיהוּ מִסִּטְרָא דְּסָמָאֵ"ל), heaven forbid! (חַס וְשָׁלוֹם).

For behold, it is written (דְּהָא כְּתִיב) (Isaiah 42) "I am Hashem, that is My Name, and My glory I will not give to another" (אֲנִי יְיָ' הוּא שְׁמִי וּכְבוֹדִי לְאַחֵר לא אֶתֵּן), which refers to the Evil inclination (דְּאִיהוּ יֵצֶר הָרָע). And regarding that body (וְהַהוּא גּוּפָא), wherein the daughter of the King dwells (דְּשַׁרְיָא בְּרָתָא דְּמַלְכָּא), if you would say it is sold to the lower impure crowns (אִי תֵּימָא דְּאִזְדְבָן בְּכִתְרִין תַּתָּאִין דִּמְסָאַבוּ), heaven forbid! (חֲלִילָה וְחָס). Concerning her, it is stated (עָלָהּ אִתְּמַר) (Leviticus 25) "And the land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine" (וְהָאָרֶץ לֹא תִמָּכֵר לִצְמִיתוּת כִּי לִי הָאָרֶץ).

Who is the body of the daughter of the King? (מַאן גּוּפָא דִּבְרָתָא דְּמַלְכָּא). It is Metatron (דָּא מְטַטְרוֹן). And this body is the maidservant of Shekhinta (וְהַאי גּוּפָא אִיהוּ אָמָה דִּשְׁכִינְתָא), although the Neshama, who is the daughter of the King, is captive there (אַף עַל גַּב דְּאִיהִי נִשְׁמְתָא דְּאִיהִי בְּרָתָא דְּמַלְכָּא שְׁבוּיָה תַּמָּן), she comes in reincarnation (בְּגִלְגּוּלָא אַתְיָא), for reincarnations [gilgulin] come because [the soul] came from there (דְּאַתְיָין גִלְגּוּלִין בְּגִין דְּאַתִּית תַּמָּן). What is written about her? (מַה כְּתִיב בָּהּ), (Exodus 21) "And if a man sells his daughter as a maidservant, she shall not go forth as the slaves go forth" (וְכִי יִמְכּוֹר אִישׁ אֶת בִּתּוֹ לְאָמָה לא תֵּצֵא כְּצֵאת הָעֲבָדִים).

And furthermore (וְעוֹד), "If a man sells" (וְכִי יִמְכּוֹר אִישׁ), this refers to Kudsha Berikh Hu (דָּא קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא). "His daughter" (אֶת בִּתּוֹ), these are Yisrael (אֵלּוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל), who are from the side of the only daughter (דְּאִינּוּן מִסִּטְרָא דְּבַת יְחִידָה), and are called "His daughter" (אִתְקְרִיאוּ בִּתּוֹ). And if you say they will leave (וְאִי תֵּימָא דְּיִפְקוּן), in the manner of those from the side of the servant who is Metatron (כְּגַוְונָא דְּאִלֵין מִסִּטְרָא דְּעֶבֶד, דְּאִיהוּ מְטַטְרוֹ''ן), who went out hastily from Egypt (דְּנַפְקוּ בִּמְנוּסָה מִמִּצְרַיִם), "she shall not go forth as the slaves go forth" (לא תֵצֵא כְּצֵאת הָעֲבָדִים). Thus it is written (Isaiah 52) "For you shall not go forth in haste, nor go by flight" (כִּי לא בְּחִפָּזוֹן תֵּצֵאוּ וּבִמְנוּסָה לֹא תֵלֵכוּן).

Come and see (תָּא חֲזִי), when a human being is born p6-27(בַּר נָשׁ כַּד אִתְיְלִיד), they give him a Nefesh from the side of the cattle (יָהֲבִין לֵיהּ נַפְשָׁא מִסִּטְרָא דִּבְעִירָא), from the side of purity (מִסִּטְרָא דְּדַכְיוּ), from the side of those that are called the Ophanim of holiness (מִסִּטְרָא דְּאִלֵּין דְּאִתְקְרוּן אוֹפַנֵּי הַקּוֹדֶשׁ).

If he merits further (זָכָה יַתִּיר), they give him a Ruach from the side of Holy Chayot (יַהֲבִין לֵיהּ רוּחָא, מִסִּטְרָא דְּחַיּוֹת הַקּוֹדֶשׁ).

If he merits further (זָכָה יַתִּיר), they give him a Neshama from the side of the Throne (יַהֲבִין לֵיהּ נִשְׁמְתָא, מִסִּטְרָא דְּכֻרְסְיָיא). These three are the maidservant, servant, and shifcha of the daughter of the King (וּתְלַת אִלֵּין, אִינּוּן אָמָה עֶבֶד וְשִׁפְחָה דִּבְרָתָא דְּמַלְכָּא).

If he merits further (זָכָה יַתִּיר), they give him a Nefesh from the path of Atzilut (יַהֲבִין לֵיהּ נַפְשָׁא בְּאֹרַח אֲצִילוּת), from the side of the only daughter (מִסִּטְרָא דְּבַת יְחִידָה), and she is called "daughter of the King" (וְאִתְקְרִיאַת אִיהִי בַּת מֶלֶךְ). If he merits further (זָכָה יַתִּיר), they give him a Ruach of Atzilut (יַהֲבִין לֵיהּ רוּחָא דְּאֲצִילוּת), from the side of the central pillar (מִסִּטְרָא דְּעַמּוּדָא דְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא), and he is called "a son to Kudsha Berikh Hu" (וְאִקְרֵי בֵּן לְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא). Thus it is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב) (Devarim 14) "You are children to Hashem your God" (בָּנִים אַתֶּם לַיְיָ' אֱלֹהֵיכֶם).

If he merits further (זָכָה יַתִּיר), they give him a Neshama from the side of Abba and Imma (יַהֲבִין לֵיהּ נִשְׁמְתָא, מִסִּטְרָא דְּאַבָּא וְאִמָא). Thus it is written (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב) (Bereshit 2) "And He breathed into his nostrils the Neshama of life" (וַיִּפַּח בְּאַפָּיו נִשְׁמַת חַיִּים). What is "life"? (מַאי חַיִּים). Rather, it is Yod Hei (אֶלָּא אִינּוּן י״ה), about which it is stated (Tehillim 150) "Let every Neshama praise Yah" (כָּל הַנְּשָׁמָה תְּהַלֵּל יָהּ), and the Name Yod Hei Vav Hei is completed in him (וְאִשְׁתְּלִים בֵּיהּ ידו״ד).

If he merits further (זָכָה יַתִּיר), they give him Yod Hei Vav Hei in the completeness of letters (יַהֲבִין לֵיהּ ידו״ד בִּשְׁלִימוּ דְּאַתְוָון), Yod-Hei-Vav-Hei (יוּ״ד הֵ״א וָא״ו הֵ״א), and he is Adam (דְּאִיהוּ אָדָם), in the path of upper Atzilut (בְּאֹרַח אֲצִילוּת דְּעֵילָּא), and he is called "in the likeness of his Master" (וְאִתְקְרֵי בְּדִיּוּקְנָא דְּמָארֵיהּ). About him it is stated (Bereshit 1) "And rule over the fish of the sea, etc." (וּרְדוּ בִּדְגַת הַיָּם וְגוֹ').

And this is his dominion over all the heavens (וְהַאי אִיהוּ שׁוּלְטָנוּתֵיהּ בְּכָל רְקִיעִין), and over all Ofanim, Serafim, and Chayot (וּבְכָל אוֹפַנִּים וּשְׂרָפִים וְחֵיוָון), and over all armies and powers above and below (וּבְכָל חַיָּילִין וְתוּקְפִין דִּלְעֵילָּא וְתַתָּא). Therefore (וּבְגִין דָּא), when a human being merits a Nefesh from the side of the only daughter (כַּד בַּר נָשׁ זָכֵי בְּנֶפֶשׁ מִסִּטְרָא דְּבַת יְחִידָה), it is said about him (אִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ): "She shall not go forth as the slaves go forth" (לא תֵצֵא כְּצֵאת הָעֲבָדִים).
