Daf 245b (דַּף רמ״ה ע״ב)
In this palace (בְּהַאי הֵיכָלָא), one appointed officer, his name Tahari’el (חַד מְמָנָא שַׁמָּשָׁא טָהֲרִיאֵ״ל שְׁמֵיהּ). And he stands at the entrance of that palace (וְאִיהוּ קַיְּימָא עַל פִּתְחָא דְּהַהוּא הֵיכָלָא). And all souls that ascend (וְכָל נִשְׁמָתִין דְּסַלְּקִין), this officer stands at this entrance (קַיְּימָא הַאי מְמָנָא בְּהַאי פִּתְחָא). And many other appointed ones with him (וְכַמָּה מְמָנָן אַחֲרָנִין עִמֵּיהּ), all blazing fire (כֻּלְּהוּ אֶשָּׁא דִּמְלַהֲטָא), and rods of fire in their hands (וְשַׁרְבִּיטִין דְּאֶשָּׁא בִּידַיְיהוּ), and all masters of eyes (וְכֻלְּהוּ מָארֵי דְּעַיְינִין). This officer stands here (הַאי מְמָנָא קַיְּימָא בְּסִטְרָא דָּא): if the soul is worthy to enter (אִי זַכָּאַת הַאי נִשְׁמְתָא לְמֵיעָל), this officer opens the gate and she enters (הַאי מְמָנָא פָּתַח פִּתְחָא וְעָאלַת). But if not worthy (וְאִי לָא זַכָּאַת), that other officer who stands on the Sitra achra is ready (הַהוּא מְמָנָא אַחֲרָא דְּקַיְּימָא בְּסִטְרָא אַחֲרָא זַמִּין), and thousands and tens of thousands of punitive guards with him (וְכַמָּה אֶלֶף וְרִבְבָן גַּרְדִּינֵי נִימוּסִין עִמֵּיהּ). That holy officer thrusts her away (דָּחֵי לָהּ הַהוּא מְמָנָא אַחֲרָא קַדִּישָׁא), and this other one seizes her (וְנָקִיט לָהּ הַאי אַחֲרָא), who is on the defiled side (דִּי בְּסִטְרָא דִּמְסָאֲבָא), and brings her into those defiled palaces (וְאָעִיל לָהּ גּוֹ אִינּוּן הֵיכָלֵי מִסְאֲבֵי). And all those punitive guards hold her (וְכָל אִינּוּן גַּרְדִּינֵי נִימוּסִין אַחְדֵּי לָהּ), until they bring her down to Gehinnom (עַד דְּנַחְתֵּי לָהּ לַגֵיהִנָּם), and she is judged there twelve months (וְאִתְדָּנַת תַּמָּן תְּרֵיסָר יַרְחֵי). This is the correction of that Sitra achra (תִּקּוּנָא דְּהַהוּא סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא), the court to judge the guilty (בֵּי דִּינָא לְאַתְדְּנָא בְּהוּ חַיָּיבַיָּא).
In this way (כְּגַוְונָא דָּא), that holy officer who stands at that gate (הַהוּא מְמָנָא קַדִּישָׁא דְּקַיְּימָא עַל הַהוּא פִּתְחָא), all prayers that pierce heavens and skies (כָּל אִינּוּן צְלוֹתִין דְּבַקְעֵי אֲוִירִין וּרְקִיעִין), to enter before the King (לְמֵיעָאל קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא): if they are prayers of the many (אִי צְלוֹתָא דְּסַגִּיאִין אִינּוּן), he opens the gate (פָּתַח פִּתְחָא), and brings in that prayer (וְאָעִיל הַהוּא צְלוֹתָא), until all prayers of the world are made (עַד דְּאִתְעָבֵידוּ כָּל צְלוֹתִין דְּעָלְמָא) into a crown on the head of the Tzaddik, Life of Worlds (עֲטָרָא בְּרֵישָׁא דְּצַדִּיק חַי עָלְמִין), as established (כְּמָה דְּאוּקְמוּהָ).
But if it is the prayer of an individual (וְאִי צְלוֹתָא דְּיָחִיד), it ascends until it reaches the gate of this palace (סַלְּקָא עַד דְּמָטֵי לְפִתְחָא דְּהֵיכָלָא דָּא), where this officer stands (דְּהַאי מְמָנָא קַיְּימָא בֵּיהּ). If that prayer is fitting to be raised before the Holy King (אִי יָאָה הַהִיא צְלוֹתָא לְאַעֲלָא קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא קַדִּישָׁא), immediately he opens the gate and brings it in (מִיַּד פָּתַח פִּתְחָא וְאָעִיל לָהּ). But if not fitting (וְאִי לָא יָאָה), he thrusts it outside (דָּחֵי לָהּ לְבַר), and it descends and wanders in the world (וְנַחְתָא וְאִתְּשַׁטְיָא בְּעָלְמָא), and stands in a lower firmament of those below (וְקַיְּימָא גּוֹ רְקִיעָא תַּתָּאָה מֵאִינּוּן רְקִיעִין דִּלְתַתָּא), that are mingled with the world (דִּמְדָבְרֵי גּוֹ עָלְמָא). And in that firmament stands one officer, whose name is Sahadi’el (וּבְהַהוּא רְקִיעָא קַיְּימָא חַד מְמָנָא דִּי שְׁמֵיהּ סָהֲדִיאֵ״ל), appointed over this firmament (וּמְמָנָא עַל הַאי רְקִיעָא). And he takes all those rejected prayers (וְנָטִיל כָּל הָנֵי צְלוֹתִין דְּאִתְדַחְיָין), which are called vain prayers (דְּאִקְרוּן צְלוֹתֵי פְּסִילָאן), and hides them until that man is judged (וְגָנִיז לוֹן עַד דְּאִתְּדָּן הַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ).
If a man returns to his Master properly (אִי תָּב לְגַבֵי מָארֵיהּ כְּדְקָא יֵאוֹת), and prays another worthy prayer (וְצַלֵּי צְלוֹתָא אַחֲרָא זַכָּאָה), that worthy prayer, when it ascends (הַהִיא צְלוֹתָא זַכָּאָה כַּד סַלְּקָא), that officer Sahadi’el takes that prayer (נָטִיל הַהוּא מְמָנָא סָהֲדִיאֵ״ל הַאי צְלוֹתָא), and brings it up above (וְסָלִיק לָהּ לְעֵילָּא), until it mingles with that worthy prayer (עַד דְּאִעְרַע בְּהַהִיא צְלוֹתָא זַכָּאָה), and they ascend and are joined together as one (וְסַלְּקִין וְאִתְעָרְבוּן כַּחֲדָא), and come before the Holy King (וְעָאלִין קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא קַדִישָׁא). But sometimes that prayer is rejected (וּלְזִמְנִין אִתְדַחְיָא הַהִיא צְלוֹתָא), because that man clung after the Sitra achra (בְּגִין דְּהַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ אִתְמְשָׁךְ בָּתַר סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא), and he was defiled in that side (וְאִיהוּ אִסְתְּאַב בְּהַהוּא סִטְרָא).
Then that officer of the defiled side takes it (וְנָטִיל לָהּ הַהוּא מְמָנָא דִּי בְּהַהוּא סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא מְסַאֲבָא). And then that defiled side stands (וְכֵדֵין קַיְימָא הַהוּא סִטְרָא אַחֲרָא מְסַאֲבָא), ascends, and recalls the sins of that man before Kudsha Berikh Hu (סָלִיק וְאַדְכַּר חוֹבוֹי דְּהַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ קָמֵי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא), and stirs accusation against him above (וְאַסְטֵי עָלֵיהּ לְעֵילָּא). Therefore, all prayers and all souls, when they ascend (וְעַל דָּא, כָּל צְלוֹתִין וְכָל נִשְׁמָתִין כַּד סַלְּקִין), they all rise and stand before this palace (כֻּלְּהוֹן סַלְּקִין וְקַיְימָן קָמֵי הֵיכָלָא דָּא). And this officer stands at the gate of this palace (וְהַאי מְמָנָא קַיְּימָא עַל פִּתְחָא דְּהֵיכָלָא דָּא), to bring in souls and prayers, or to thrust them outside (לְאַעֲלָא נִשְׁמָתִין וּצְלוֹתִין, אוֹ לְדַחְיָיא לוֹן לְבַר). Above this gate there is another gate (לְעֵילָּא מֵהַאי פִּתְחָא אִית פִּתְחָא אַחֲרָא), that Kudsha Berikh Hu engraved for Himself (דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא חָתִיר לָהּ), and it is opened three times a day (וְאִתְפְּתַח תְּלַת זִמְנֵי בְּיוֹמָא), and not closed (וְלָא אַנְעִיל).
It stands for those masters of repentance (וְקַיְּימָא לְאִינּוּן מָארֵיהוֹן דְּתִיוּבְתָא), who pour tears in their prayers before their Master (דִּי אוֹשְׁדִין דִּמְעָה בִּצְלוֹתְהוֹן קָמֵי מָארֵיהוֹן). And all gates and entrances are locked (וְכָל תַּרְעִין וּפִתְחִין נִנְעָלוּ), until permission is given (עַד דְּעַיְילֵי בִּרְשׁוּתָא), except for these gates, which are called the Gates of Tears (בַּר תַּרְעִין אִלֵּין דְּאִקְרוּן שַׁעְרֵי דִּמְעָה). And when this prayer of tears ascends above (וְכַד הַאי צְלוֹתָא דְּדִמְעָה סַלְּקָא לְעֵילָּא), to be raised into those gates (לְאַעֲלָא בְּאִינּוּן תַּרְעִין), then that Ofan is summoned who stands upon six hundred mighty creatures (אִזְדָּמַן הַהוּא אוֹפָן דְּקַיְּימָא עַל שִׁית מֵאָה חֵיוָון רַבְרְבָן), and his name is Raḥami’el (וְרַחֲמִיאֵ״ל שְׁמֵיהּ). He takes that prayer (וְנָטִיל הַהִיא צְלוֹתָא), with those tears (בְּאִינּוּן דִּמְעִין), the prayer enters and is bound above (צְלוֹתָא עָאלַת וְאִתְקָשָּׁרַת לְעֵילָּא). And those tears remain here (וְאִינּוּן דִּמְעִין אִשְׁתָּאֲרוּ הָכָא), and are imprinted at this gate (וּרְשִׁימִין בְּהַאי פִּתְחָא).
And there are other tears, imprinted continually upon all those supernal chariots which were never erased (וְאִית דִּמְעִין אַחֲרָנִין, וּרְשִׁימִין תָּדִיר עַל כֹּל אִינּוּן רְתִיכִין עִלָּאִין, דְּלָא אִתְמְחוּן). These are the tears that were poured above and below, when the Temple was destroyed (אִלֵּין אִינּוּן דִּמְעִין, דְּאוֹשְׁדוּ לְעֵילָּא וְתַתָא, כַּד אִתְחָרַב בֵּי מַקְדְשָׁא), as it is written: “Behold, their valiant ones cry without, the angels of peace weep bitterly” (Isaiah 33) (דִּכְתִיב הֵן אֶרְאֶלָּם צָעֲקוּ חוּצָה מַלְאֲכֵי שָׁלוֹם מַר יִבְכָּיוּן). And these are the tears poured for the Righteous, the righteous ones, when they depart from the world (וְאִינּוּן דִּמְעִין דְּאוֹשְׁדִין עַל צַדִיקַיָּיא, וְזַכָּאִין, כַּד מִסְתַּלְּקֵי מֵעָלְמָא).
All of them take those chariots (כֻּלְּהוּ נַטְלֵי לוֹן אִינּוּן רְתִיכִין), and mingle them with the tears that were shed over the destruction of the Temple (וְעַרְבֵי לוֹן בְּאִינּוּן דִּמְעִין, דְּאִתוֹשְׁדוּ עַל חָרִיבוּ דְּבֵי מַקְדְשָׁא). And about this it is written: “And Hashem Elohim shall wipe away the tear from every face” (Isaiah 25) (וְעַל דָּא כְּתִיב וּמָחָה יְיָ' אֱלֹהִים דִּמְעָה מֵעַל כָּל פָּנִים). What are the “faces”? These are the holy supernal chariots (מַאן פָּנִים. אִלֵּין רְתִיכִין עִלָּאִין קַדִישִׁין). And afterwards: “And the disgrace of His people He will remove from all the earth, for Hashem has spoken” (Isaiah 25) (וּלְבָתַר וְחֶרְפַּת עַמּוֹ יָסִיר מֵעַל כָּל הָאָרֶץ כִּי יְיָ' דִּבֵּר).
