The Thirty-Third Tikkun

Bereshit-this is the primordial command (בְּרֵאשִׁית דָּא פִּקוּדָא קַדְמָאָה), which is hinted in the thirty-two pathways (דְאִתְרְמִיז בְּל״ב שְׁבִילִין), which are the thirty-two Elohim of the act of Bereshit (דְּאִינוּן ל״ב אֱלֹהִי״ם דְּעוֹבָדָא דִבְּרֵאשִׁית), the twenty-two letters and the ten utterances that are included in them (כ״ב אַתְוָון וַעֲשַׂר אֲמִירָן דְּאִתְכְּלִילָן בְּהוּ). The first Tikkun is Yir’ah (תִּקּוּנָא קַדְמָאָה יִרְאָה), and concerning it is said: “The beginning of wisdom is Yirat Hashem” (Psalms 111) (וַעֲלָהּ אִתְּמַר רֵאשִׁית חָכְמָה יִרְאַת יְיָ). For there is dread, and there is dread Yirat Hashem-this is the Shekhinta, the holy Malkhut Evil Yirah-this is a strap to whip the guilty And what is that? It is the poison of death of Samael, his female Yirat Hashem-this is reward for whoever guards the negative commandments Evil Yirah-this is a strap to whip whoever transgresses them

Rabbi Shimon arose and said: El'azar my son (קָם רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן וְאָמַר אֶלְעָזָר בְּרִי), there is one who has dread of Kudsha Berikh Hu in order that his sons may live and his wealth may increase in this world (אִית מָאן דְּדָחִיל לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בְּגִין דְּיֵיחוּן בְּנוֹי וְיִסְגֵּי עוּתְרֵיהּ בְּהַאי עָלְמָא). And if he lacks from this, he does not have dread of Him This one does not set Yirat Hashem as his root But one who has dread of Kudsha Berikh Hu whether in goodness or in suffering (אֲבָל מָאן דְּדָחִיל לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בֵּין בְּטִיבוּ בֵּין בְּעָאקוּ), behold this one sets Yirat Hashem in him as the root (הָא דָא שַׁוִּי יִרְאַת יְיָ בֵיהּ לְעִקָּרָא). For three levels are they of Yir’ah (דִּתְלַת דַּרְגִּין אִינוּן דְּיִרְאָה): there is Yir’ah whether in goodness or in suffering (אִית יִרְאָה בֵּין בְּטִיבוּ בֵּין בְּעָאקוּ), and there is Yir’ah of one who has dread of Kudsha Berikh Hu in goodness but not in suffering (וְאִית יִרְאָה דְּדָחִיל לְקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בְּטִיבוּ וְלָא בְּעָאקוּ), and there is yir’ah that does not set it upon him as the root, neither in goodness nor in suffering (וְאִית יִרְאָה דְּלָא שַׁוִּי לָהּ עֲלֵיהּ לְעִקָּרָא בֵּין לְטִיבוּ בֵּין לְעָאקוּ). A complete tzaddik sets it upon him as the root both in goodness and in judgment An intermediate sets it upon him in goodness but not in judgment A complete wicked one does not set it as root for him, neither in goodness nor in judgment

And the Shekhinta, why is she called Yirah For behold, she is taken from the side of the middle pillar Rather, just as the middle pillar takes from mercy and judgment, which are right and left (אֶלָּא כְּמָה דְּעַמּוּדָא דְאֶמְצָעִיתָא נָטִיל מֵרַחֲמֵי וְדִינָא דְאִינוּן יְמִינָא וּשְׂמָאלָא), so she takes from both of them (הָכִי אִיהִי נָטְלָא מִתַּרְוַיְיהוּ). From the side of the left, this is called Yirah, the dread of Yitzchak From the side of the right, it is called love And this is the second command, of which it is said: “With an everlasting love I have loved you; therefore with kindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31) And from these two sides the middle pillar is called light and lamp And the Shekhinta is light, torch, radiance “The Jews had radiance” (Esther 8:16) Torch-thus have the masters of the Mishnah established, that the tzaddikim stand before the Shekhinta like a lamp before the torch From the side of the right-Hashem (מִסִּטְרָא דִימִינָא יְיָ), and from the side of the left-Adonai, for there is judgment there (וּמִסִּטְרָא דִשְׂמָאלָא אֲדנָ״י דְּתַמָּן דִּין). And because of this, on the first day: “And Elohim said: Let there be light” (Bereshit 1:3) Because five lights are in the first day (בְּגִין דְּחָמֵשׁ אוֹר אִינוּן בְּיוֹמָא קַדְמָאָה), and they are the five above, and from there they shine (וְאִינוּן ה׳ עִלָּאָה וּמִתַּמָּן נַהֲרִין). Yod in the left-and this is the lamp And this Hei from Elohim-Hei to the right, Yod to the left Vav fills both, the middle pillar, the son of Yah And this is the mystery of Elohim filled with Hei (וְדָא אִיהוּ רָזָא אֱלֹהִי״ם מְלֵי ה״י), which is the first writing (דָּא כְּתִיבַת קַדְמָאָה). And the mystery of the word Hei-Elohim filled, inverted letters And this is the small Hei (וְדָא ה׳ זְעִירָא), which is filled with three letters (דָּאִיהִי מְלִיאַ מִתְּלַת אַתְוָן), and becomes YHV (וְאִתְעַבִּידַת יְהו״ה). Above it is YHVH (לְעֵילָא אִיהוּ הוי״ה), and with it begin the letters of the Torah: Hei-Vav, and afterward Tet-Yod (וּבָהּ מַתְחִילִין אַתְוָן דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא ה״ו וּלְבַתַר ט״י). And where is found the final Hei But the dalet became Hei But who caused the Vav to fly from her, which is her thigh But-“He has made me desolate, faint all the day” (Lamentations 1:13) This hod, which is her thigh, has turned into daveh

In the fifth millennium (בְּאַלֶף חֲמֵשָׁאָה), because her thigh flew away (בְּגִין דְּפָרַח מִנֵּיהּ יַרֵךְ). Concerning it is said: “And the hollow of Ya’akov’s thigh was strained” (Bereshit 32:26) It is known that from the right begins to count dalet until Netzach And hod is her complete thigh And this is what was given to Moshe This is that which is said: “And He gave hod to Moshe” (Deuteronomy 34:9)
