Chapter One (פֶּרֶק רִאשׁוֹן)

e said above (אָמַרְנוּ לְמַעְלָה), that after the folding of the Malbush [Garment] (שֶׁאַחַר קִפּוּל הַמַּלְבּוּשׁ), that is (דְּהַיְנוּ), after its lower half was terminated and included in the upper half (אַחַר שֶׁנִּפְסַק וְנִכְלַל חֶצְיוֹ הַתַּחְתּוֹן בָּעֶלְיוֹן), and the Yod remains at the end of the Avir Kadmon [Primordial Air] below without a mate (וְהַיּו״ד נִשְׁאֶרֶת בְּסוֹפוֹ שֶׁל אויר קדמון לְמַטָּה בְּלֹא בַּת זוּג). And before this Yod descended below (וְקוֹדֶם שֶׁיָּרְדָה הַיּו״ד הַזֹּאת לְמַטָּה), the place of half the Malbush [Garment] was like a vacant place (הָיָה מְקוֹם חֲצִי הַמַּלְבּוּשׁ כְּמוֹ מָקוֹם פָּנוּי), but not a truly vacant place (וְלֹא מָקוֹם פָּנוּי מַמָּשׁ). For in any case, a Reshimu [Imprint] of the light of Ein Sof remained within it (כִּי עַל כָּל פָּנִים נִשְׁאֲרָה בּוֹ רֶשֶׁם אוֹר אֵין סוֹף), meaning (דְּהַיְינוּ), the essential light of the parchment (אוֹר עַצְמוּת הַנִּיָּיר), the light of the letters of the Malbush [Garment] (אוֹר אוֹתִיּוֹת הַלְּבוּשׁ), and there remained in it the light of the Reshimu [Imprint] of the half of the Malbush [Garment] (וְהָיָה בּוֹ אוֹר רְשִׁימוּ שֶׁל חֲצִי הַמַּלְבּוּשׁ), in the mystery of Yodin (בְּסוֹד יוּדִין). And you already know that the Yod is gathered from many points (וְכְבָר יָדַעְתָּ שֶׁהַיּו״ד הִיא מְקוּבֶּצֶת מִנְּקֻדּוֹת הַרְבֵּה), as the masters of geometry have said (כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמְרוּ בַּעֲלֵי הַהַנְדָּסָה). If so (אִם כֵּן), from the Reshimu [Imprint] of the points of the Yodin that were fixed in this Avir Kadmon [Primordial Air] (מֵהָרְשִׁימוּ שֶׁל נְקֻדּוֹת יוּדִין שֶׁהָיוּ קְבוּעוֹת בְּאויר קדמון הַזֶּה), they all gathered to one another (נִתְקַבְּצוּ כֻּלָּם אֵצֶל עַצְמָן), and became one great Yod (וְנַעֲשׂוּ יו״ד גְּדוֹלָה). And this Yod was hidden within the letters of Ohr [Light] (וְהַיּו״ד הַזֹּאת גְּנוּזָה בְּתוֹךְ אוֹתִיּוֹת אוֹר), and became Avir [Air] (וְנַעֲשֵׂית אויר), and this is the Avira Kadma'ah [Primordial Air] that the Zohar speaks of (וְהַיְנוּ אוירא קדמאה שֶׁאוֹמֵר הַזֹּהַר). And afterward, from the leftovers above, it was built in its proper form (וְאַחַר כָּךְ מִן הַנּוֹבְלוֹת שֶׁל מַעְלָה נִבְנָה כְּתִקּוּנוֹ), and it is called Kadma'ah [Primordial] (וְנִקְרָא קדמאה), because it is the first Avir [Air] and the beginning of all Avirin [Airs] in the world (לְפִי שֶׁהוּא הָאוִיר הָרִאשׁוֹן וּתְחִלַּת כָּל אוירין שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם). And if it were called "Ohr [Light]" (וְאִם הָיָה נִקְרָא אוֹר), it would not be possible to call it Ohr Kadmon [Primordial Light] (לֹא הָיָה יָכוֹל לִקְרוֹא אוֹתוֹ אוֹר קַדְמוֹן), because the light of the Malbush [Garment] preceded it (מִפְּנֵי שֶׁכְּבָר קִדְּמוֹ אוֹר הַלְּבוּשׁ). And likewise, it would not be fitting to call Tehiru "Ohr [Light]" (וְכֵן טהירו לֹא הָיָה רָאוּי לִקְרוֹתוֹ אוֹר), because the light of the Malbush [Garment] preceded it as well (מִפְּנֵי שֶׁאוֹר הַלְּבוּשׁ קִדְּמוֹ). And also it is not fitting to call it Tehiru Kadma'ah [Primordial Tehiru] (וְגַם אֵינוֹ מִן הָרָאוּי לִקְרוֹתוֹ טהירו קדמאה), because the Supernal Tehiru preceded it (מִפְּנֵי שֶׁקִּדְּמוֹ טהירו עילאה).
