Chapter Thirty-Five (פֶּרֶק שְׁלוֹשִׁים וַחֲמִשָּׁה)

The letter Chet (אוֹת חֵית): know that the letter Chet is made from two points (דַּע שֶׁאוֹת ח׳ נַעֲשֵׂית מִשְּׁתֵּי נְקוּדוֹת), which are in the measure of one point (שֶׁהֵם בְּשִׁיעוּר נְקוּדָה אַחַת), because they are the nations (מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהֵם הָאוּמּוֹת). And from these two points are made two Zayins, as we have said (וּמֵאֵלּוּ הַב׳ נְקוּדוֹת נַעֲשִׂית תּרֵין זַיְנִין כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ), and these two points were originally one (וְאֵלּוּ הַב׳ נְקוּדוֹת הָיוּ קוֹדֶם לְכֵן אֶחָד), and afterwards were divided into two (וְאַחַר כָּךְ נֶחְלְקָה לִשְׁנַיִם). And the hump in the middle is the point (וְהַחַטּוֹטֶרֶת שֶׁבֶּאֱמְצַע הִיא הַנְּקוּדָּה). And after it was divided into two Zayins, because he sends them to two sides (וְאַחַר שֶׁנֶּחְלְקָה לִשְׁנֵי זַיְנִין מִפְּנֵי שֶׁשׁוֹלֵחַ אוֹתָם לִשְׁנֵי צְדָדִים), for this reason the hump remains thin, because it sent its light as mentioned (לָזֶה הַחַטּוֹטֶרֶת נִשְׁאֶרֶת דַּקָּה מִפְּנֵי שֶׁשִּׁלְּחָה אוֹרָהּ כַּנִּזְכָּר). And since the Chet is feminine, it alludes to the two twins of Hevel (וּלְהִיוֹת שֶׁהַחֵית הִיא נְקֵבָה, מוֹרָה לִשְׁתֵּי הַתְּאוֹמוֹת שֶׁל הֶבֶל), and they are Rachel and Leah (וְהֵן רָחֵל וְלֵאָה).
