Chapter Thirty-Four (פֶּרֶק שְׁלוֹשִׁים וְאַרְבָּעָה)

The letter Zayin (אוֹת זַיִן) is a Yod upon a Vav (הוּא יוּ״ד עַל וָיו). That is, after the Yod made a line backward (כְּלוֹמַר, אַחַר שֶׁהַיּוּ״ד עָשְׂתָה קַו לְאָחוֹרֶיהָ), it returned and rested upon its head (חָזְרָה וְיָשְׁבָה עַל רֹאשָׁהּ). And this is what was said in the Zohar: “Zayin is a Yod upon a Vav” (וְזֶהוּ מַה שֶּׁאָמְרוּ בַּזֹּהַר: זַיִן דָּא יוּ״ד עַל וָיו).
