Daf 70a (דַּף ע׳ ע״א)
In the mystery of the Ohr Makif [Encircling Light] for Ze'ir Anpin (בְּסוֹד אוֹר מַקִּיף לִזְעֵיר), of Elohim, which is Din [Judgment] (שֶׁל אֱלֹהִים שֶׁהוּא דִּין), and afterward it says, “Ohr [Light]” (וְאַחַ״כ אוֹמֵר אוֹר), namely the Ohr [Light] of Vayehi Ohr [And There Was Light] (שֶׁהוּא אוֹר מִוַיְהִי אוֹר), which is the mystery of Shamayim [Heavens] (שֶׁהוּא סוֹד שָׁמַיִם), which included them (הָיָה כּוֹלְלָם), in the mystery of the Ohr Makif [Encircling Light] for Ze'ir Anpin (בְּסוֹד אוֹר מַקִּיף לִזְעֵיר), which is the mystery of the Tallit [Prayer Shawl] (שֶׁהוּא סוֹד הַטַּלִּית), which does not receive ritual impurity (שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה), and with which a person may even enter the privy, which is the Klipah [Shell], as is known (וְיָכוֹל אָדָם לָצֵאת בּוֹ לְבֵית הַכִּסֵּא שֶׁהוּא הַקְּלִיפָּה כַּנּוֹדָע), and it also alludes to the Great Light (וְהוּא גַּם כֵּן מְרַמֵּז עַל הָאוֹר הַגָּדוֹל), which was the Neshamah [Soul] of the Reshimu [Impression] of the Ohr [Light] of His Essence (שֶׁהָיָה נִשְׁמַת רֹשֶׁם אוֹר עַצְמוּתוֹ), which prevented the Light from becoming coarse and bounded in the mystery of the Kli [Vessel] (שֶׁהָיָה מוֹנֵעַ הָאוֹר מִלִּהְיוֹתוֹ עָב וּבַעַל גְּבוּל בְּסוֹד כְּלִי), and this Light is called El Gadol [Great God] (וְזֶה הָאוֹר נִקְרָא אֵל גָּדוֹל), which ascended through the Yod (שֶׁעָלָה ע״י הַיוֹ״ד), and this was called by the mystery of Yehi Ohr [Let There Be Light] (וְזֶה הָיָה נִקְרָא בְּסוֹד יְהִי אוֹר), and afterward, when the Light ascended Above through the Yod (וְאַחַ״כ כְּשֶׁחָזַר הָאוֹר לְמַעְלָה ע״י הַיוֹ״ד), from El there came into being the Elohim, which is the Din [Judgment], the boundary of the Kli [Vessel] (מֵהָאֵל נַעֲשָׂה אֱלֹהִים שֶׁהוּא דִּין גְּבוּל הַכְּלִי), and afterward the two were joined together in the mystery of Shamayim [Heavens], which encompass everything (וְנִתְחַבְּרוּ אַחַ״כ שְׁנֵיהֶם בְּסוֹד שָׁמַיִם הַמַּקִּיפִים כָּל דָּבָר), thus it follows that from Mayim [Water] emerged Esh [Fire] (וְנִמְצָא כִּי מִמַּיִם יָצָא אֵשׁ), that is to say, from El emerged the El of Elohim (דְּהַיְינוּ מֵאֵל יָצָא אֵל דֶּאֱלֹהִים), which is the Choshekh [Darkness], namely the existence of the coarseness of the Kli [Vessel], which are the letters of Din [Judgment] (שֶׁהוּא הַחֹשֶׁךְ שֶׁהוּא מְצִיאוּת עָכִירוּת הַכְּלִי שֶׁהֵם אוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁל דִּין), and Ohr [Light] is the mystery of the letters of Shamayim [Heavens], which were joined together in the Torah SheBiKhtav [Written Torah] (וְאוֹר הוּא סוֹד הָאוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁל שָׁמַיִם שֶׁנִּתְחַבְּרוּ בַּתּוֹרָה שֶׁבִּכְתָב), and this is the clearest of all the explanations, sufficient for the elucidation of this discourse (וְזֶה הוּא הַיּוֹתֵר מְחוַֹרְתָּא שֶׁבְּכָל הַדְּרָכִים הַמַּסְפִּיק לְבֵאוּר הַמַּאֲמָר הַזֶּה), understand this (וְהָבֵן). “And Elohim saw the Ohr [Light], that it was good” (וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת הָאוֹר כִּי טוֹב) (Genesis 1:4), “This is the Middle Pillar” (דָּא עַמּוּדָא דְּאֶמְצָעִיתָא), “for good shines above and below” (כִּי טוֹב אַנְהִיר עִילָּא וְתַתָּא), “and all the other sides are in the mystery of the Name Yod-Heh-Vav-Dalet (יהוד), the Name that unites all sides” (וְכָל שְׁאָר סִטְרִין בְּרָזָא יהוד שְׁמָא דַּאֲחִיד לְכָל סִטְרִין).
Its explanation is: as we explained above, from El came into being Elohim (פֵּרוּשׁוֹ הוּא שֶׁאָמַרְנוּ לְמַעְלָה מֵאֵל נַעֲשָׂה אֱלֹהִים), and this came about through the Primordial Avir [Air] (וְזֶה נַעֲשָׂה ע״י הָאֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן), and this is the meaning of, “And Elohim saw the Ohr [Light], that it was good” (וְזֶהוּ אוֹמְרוֹ וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת הָאוֹר כִּי טוֹב) (Genesis 1:4), namely, to conceal it (לְגָנוֹז אוֹתוֹ), and through the Tov [Good] within it, it was concealed into the mystery of Adam Kadmon (וּבַטּוֹב שֶׁבּוֹ נִגְנַז לְסוֹד אָדָם קַדְמוֹן), and He took a small amount of its Novlot [Fallen Emanations] (וְלָקַח מְעַט קַט נוֹבְלוֹת מִמֶּנּוּ), in order that Ze'ir Anpin would be built from it below (לְהִבָּנוֹת מִמֶּנּוּ זְעֵיר אַנְפִּין לְמַטָּה), and this is the mystery that Havayah equals in Mispar Katan of Tov [Good] (וְזֶהוּ סוֹד הוי״ה עוֹלֶה בְּמ״ק טוֹב).
