Chapter 20, Section 2 (פֶּרֶק כ׳ אוֹת ב׳)

2. Rabbi Yishma’el said (ב. אָמַר רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל): Immediately I took a cloth of fine wool (מִיָּד נָטַלְתִּי מַטְלִית שֶׁל מִילָת), in which a flower bloomed (פֶּרַח בָּהּ), and I gave it to Rabbi Akiva (וְנָתַתִּי אוֹתָהּ לְרַבִּי עֲקִיבָא), and Rabbi Akiva gave it to our servant (וְרַבִּי עֲקִיבָא נְתָנָהּ לְעֶבֶד שֶׁלָּנוּ), saying to him: “Go (לוֹמַר לוֹ: לֵךְ), and place this cloth beside a woman (וְהַעֲמֵד מַטְלִית זוֹ אֵצֶל אִשָּׁה), who immersed, but her immersion did not count for her (שֶׁטָּבְלָה וְלֹא עָלְתָה לָהּ טְבִילָה), and the immersion-(וְהַטְּבִילָה)- if that woman comes (שֶׁאִם תָּבוֹא אוֹתָהּ הָאִשָּׁה), and declares her cycle before the fellowship (וְתֹאמַר מִדַּת וֶסֶתָּהּ לִפְנֵי חֲבוּרָה), it is known that one prohibits, and the majority permit (בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁאֶחָד אוֹסֵר וְרוֹב מַתִּירִין).” They said to that woman (אָמְרוּ לְאוֹתָהּ אִשָּׁה): “Touch this cloth (גַּעִי בָהּ בְּמַטְלִית זוֹ), with the tip of the middle finger (בְּרֹאשׁ אֶצְבַּע צְרֵדָה שֶׁל יָד), but do not press the tip of the finger upon it (וְאַל תִּדְרְכִי רֹאשׁ הָאֶצְבַּע עָלֶיהָ), rather like a person who seeks advice (אֶלָּא כְּאָדָם שֶׁנּוֹטֵל עֵצָה), who rolls his eyes downward (מְגַלְגֵּל עֵינָיו), who has fallen (שֶׁנָּפְלָה), he pushes it aside with a mere gesture” (מְדַחֶּה אוֹתָהּ בִּרְמִיזָה).
